Starting today, more games benefit from new PSSR upscaling on PS5 Pro

Jedi Survivor looks stunning with pssr2... it's mind blowing honestly.

It's really fucking good isn't it? So many games I want to replay now lol. It's at the point where virtually every game I load up I'm like "oh ok now THIS is the best. It doesn't get better than this. This is it". It's just game after game with god-tier image quality.

Avatar is indeed a great showpiece.

If you really want to see what the Pro is capable of with PSSR... PLEASE take a look at TLOU Part I after the prologue. The 1st sequence with Joel and Tess walking in the street in broad daylight

Its the best image quality Ive seen so far coming from a home console and the best example of a great PSSR implementation Ive seen so far.

Not seen that sequence yet. I played a bit last night just a bit further on where they're at the docks. It looked stunningly good. I have to say I'm coming to agree with the growing consensus that TLOU 2 has the absolute best IQ on the system right now. It's just insanely good. There are games like SW Outlaws with way more sophisticated lighting etc, but in terms of just a beautiful image to enjoy gawping at, I think TLOU 2 is probably the most striking.

Oh. I'll have to give R&C a try. Forgot about that…. though it is one of my favourite games.

Of all the games I've tested, Jedi Survivor is my favorite with the biggest differences and the most improvements.

The two TLOU games already looked excellent with PSSR1, with PSSR2 they are definitely reference material.

Silent Hill 2 is finally enjoyable on Pro. Hopefully, Konami will reactivate PSSR in Performance mode. All graphic bugs have disappeared except for one: If you look closely, fog is still flickering in places where it is not so dense. That was definitely not the case on base PS5.
Personally, I don't believe that an extra patch is coming, I think that was wrongly expressed in the PS Blog. But of course it would be nice.

Lies of P also has a bump in clarity and now looks very sharp.

I don't know if Dead Island 2 used PSSR1 but a quick look also seemed clearer, but could also be placebo.

I also really like Metal gear Solid Delta. The noise is completely gone and the picture is razor-sharp now.

Games I've tried and order of what I think looks best.

1. Jedi Survivor - looks again mind blowing

2. The Last of 2 - dialed in settings Pro with high frame rate. Looks better than before and now runs at higher frames.

3. RE village - ray tracing with high frame rate on. Silk smooth and the whole image pops. The beginning area where you fight the (what are they Likans?) Was always a slog to aim and frame rate looked assish without HFR, but graphics took a dip. Now? Butter smooth and the visuals are better.

4. Battlefield 6 - now everything is smooth and clear with performance mode on. Much better

5. Resident evil 4 - again all the bells on with HFR not the jump like village but buttery smooth and sharp sharp.

6. Mafia - HFR on Butter smooth and sharp visuals.

7. COD warzone - map is clear draw distance improved. (Game is shit but thats not due to PS5 pro.)

8. Starwars outlaws. Nice clarity bump in 60 and 40 modes.

More games to test, and cant wait for actual patches to come out for may of these games like Silent Hill 2. SH2 is improved with the force, but there is real work to be done with a patch.

We eating good no doubt

Would be impressive - is this in performance mode? Because isn't the internal resolution really low in that? Like 720p? Or am I thinking of something else?

I'm trying to think of the lowest internal res of all the games I've tried... I think AC Shadows, SW Outlaws, and Avatar are all 864p or so, with DRS obviously. They all look fantastic now. AW 2 is the same and that's much improved, although still looks a bit soft to my eyes.

But yeah the results for games sub 1080p are really promising so far. Bodes well for PS6 being able to do path tracing at 60fps and at decent image quality.

No, I'm playing in Quality Mode since it's 60fps too and I think they lowered some effects in the performance mode which I don't like.

Edit: And I know the game has even more problems with a stable framerate in quality mode but I'm not sensitive to stutter in games.

Are you kidding? Ghosting on TSR in SH2 is far more pronounced especially in objects animated in motion.
Yeah, it even does it on the PC due to their post processing solutions. Has nothing to do with PSSR.

You can mitigate it some with DLSS tweaking, but it's not completely eliminated.

Oh really? The quality mode is 60fps? Had no idea. This game hasn't really been on my radar much tbh.

So I finally tried PSSR2 very shortly, but my thoughts:
Alan Wake 2 and Silent Hill 2, not deny there is surely a remarkable improvement but artifacts are still present, sure, not in the same amount but they are not fixed totally as I hoped; Alan Wake 2 still has those wobbling reflections with PSSR, again, an improvement is there, but I don't understand why with FSR2 there aren't such issues where on PSSR2 are still there, totally explainable to me.
About Silent Hill 2, the strobospheric effect is barely apparent now, especially in the long distance, still apparent in some point but not that visible, however I noticed more a new "issue" on the grass in the close distance. The wobbling shadow effetc seems replaced with strange a flickering stain, a footprint flashing? Something very similar to the raytracing lighting noisy. Weird stuff.
The most impressive so far: Star War Outlaw for sure, there are some pulsing effect in the metallic surface on Toshara but the improvement is very noticeable. Also Jedi Survivor shows another impressive improvement not expected, the strobospheric effect is gone completely, sure, if you pay attentions you notice on the grass a strange flickering noisy around but the IQ is infinitely better.

Mind to say, contrary to the general consensous, I found Alan Wake 2 and Silent Hill 2 a bit disappointing but not totally surprised because is still a forced implementation and I expected some limited improvements.

Yes, it really is. I checked it out now because you made me question it myself 😅
When they split the Pro-mode in quality and performance they lowered the native resolution and some effects for performance but kept 60fps for both modes.

according to the PC Death Stranding 2 post on PS Blog, it's called PICO
I guess they did a rename, they used to call it GSR, or maybe just the "unwritten name" in the gaming community.

So odd how they added PSSR to it after instead of PICO that it shipped with. It did not need PSSR, since it's build into Decima engine games. Or at least have a toggle for it.

DS2 does not use PSSR, it was just an unfounded rumor.

I only tried Star Wars Outlaws last night on my Pro, but it looks really good in Quality 60 fps mode. (I've been playing it recently despite owning it since release and only putting a few hours into it)

As a side note, the new 1080p mode on the Portal looks killer as well for Outlaws.

Are you in beta? If so, drop out and roll back the public firmware then update.

Also, try rebooting the console then checking the Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output menu.
Never been in a PS system beta. I didn't try a hard reboot, but it won't let me see the video settings over remote play, so I'll have to wait until I go home.

Just wondering: what graphics setting should I use on FF: Rebirth with this new PSSR?

Quality? Or Versatility?

Probably a dumb question, but I find all these options and settings a bit confusing.

I don't know. They blamed it on a possible stealth PSSR update, and I checked it for the usual flaws. Found none.
Then the blog says PICO is the one used in PS5 versions and was being used for the first time on PC.

Correct

"For the first time on PC, you'll find Pico as an option in Upscale Settings. This "Progressive Image Compositor" is developed by Guerrilla for the Decima engine and is the same upscaling technology that's used for Death Stranding 2 on PS5. Pico upscaling can be used with all supported graphics cards and can be combined with the various options for frame generation offered in the game.

I'm curious to see how a temporal upscaler, specifically tuned to one game engine, will perform, compared to other non-ML solutions.
I suspect it's going to be the best non-ML upscaler on this specific game.

I couldn't imagine when I had to go PC during the PS4 era, that we would be here with consoles.

Man, what a time to be alive. My wife is murdering little goombas, with better clarity with a SW2 update, DLSS is looking good for my PC, and Pro and Portal got damn great updates. The pro is becoming my most used at this point and I get to play Cyberpunk for the first time soon, also.

The tech for next gen is going to be fun to read about and have a question mark above my head not understanding, but being ready to hit the preorder button.

I'm just happier than a dog with two peters and more turned on than a two dollar whore in church. Good times.

Anybody has Silent Hill 2 on disc? Should be possible to test PSSR2 in framerate mode using the unpatched disc version.

Maybe delete game, go offline, re-install game. Not sure but it should work.
