However, Nintendo has some big games in the works, which will probably rekindle excitement.

It'll be like the iPad shit..where there's no contract...you just turn it on for a month or 2 months or whatever.

Yeah, this is a huge fact. Now they are launching at the same price. I forsee PSVita doing very, very well.Curufinwe said:PSP launched in the US in March 2005 for $249.
DS launched in the US in November 2004 for $149.

Nintendo's in a tough position. Wouldn't a reactionary price-drop on the 3DS so soon look bad?
INDIGO_CYCLOPS said:And I'm sure Sony does as well? At this point it's very close. Personally I feel there's a huge difference between the hardware, and people will begin to see that.

Kusagari said:Nothing Sony has or could possibly have, outside of FF7 REMAKE, holds a candle to the games Nintendo can release whenever they feel like it.

First of all, the device is not coming out until the holidays. So any price cut wouldn't be announced tomorrow if it was happening.
Secondly, an equal price (in the US) means a dead heat. Software is the deciding factor. Sony have the PSN catalogue and the Transferring titles, Nintendo have the entire DS library.
Currently we know a good line up of software is coming for the 3DS this holiday, and in the future. We currently know jack about the Vita lineup in comparison.
Considering that no software has been confirmed for launch, why the panic rush? Wait for September. Then we can tell if Sony has a killer handheld this holiday or not.
cosmicblizzard said:Cool, but I doubt this will steal 3DS' thunder until there's a real killer app for it.

There are languages other than English.BulletSmoke said:it's spelled Vita, why is it pronounced vee-tah, shouldn't it be more like vi-ta???
Vita OLED will heal eyes.gluv65 said:3D and children that is a real concern. 3D games start off with the warning about children and not fully developed eyes and how prolonged use could damage their sight. I think in the warning screen the age cut off is 7 or 8 I can't be too positive but it is a real concern right up their with epilepsy.
Instro said:They wont drop the price immediately. They will probably wait till the holidays, and do it right around release time for big games like Mario Kart.
They certainly have nothing to gain by going out tomorrow and announcing a price cut right now.

As a Nintendo fan, this price announcement got me excited for that exact reason. Well, that and it's a pretty good deal.Kaijima said:In point of fact, this may be a good thing because it's going to enforce more vicious software competition between Nintendo and Sony's small armada of 1st and 2nd party developers.
Nintendo can *NOT* sleep on the software side with 3DS. Get Dat Pokemon out, get Dat Mario out, Dat Mario Kart, etc, etc. Get Dat New IPs out.
All that's actually happened here is Sony let Nintendo know that they are on to Nintendo's game and they're throwing everything they've got into the ring.
3DS owners shouldn't be "pissed". They should be intrigued that someone is really lighting a fire under Iwata's ass.
syoaran said:Thanks for cutting the middle sentence of my post out of context to make your point.
I was just balancing out the two sides. They both have hardware and back catalogue behind them. So what will decide the success of these two systems is their new software lineup.
Nintendo have currently a solid lineup of titles this year. Currently nothing has been confirmed for the Vita, and very little is on show thats close to being ready.
Asking for a price cut on a system that has more potential in 2011 is retarded and will not happen. When the Vita's software lineup pulls together, then we will see a price war on software/hardware
TheExecutive said:3DS is far from doomed. Nintendo will show some beautiful games tomorrow and they are always in the position to drop the price. Is the PSV a better deal hardware wise? Yes. Does it have Mario? No. Does it have the lineage that nintendo does for handhelds? No. Does the pricing of the vita bring healthy competition? ABSOLUTELY.
Oh and people bitching about consolite experiences for the Vita... get over it. Afterall, the handheld now supports control schemes to actually back the console experience up.
The only thing I have against this unveiling is the lack of western 3rd party development. It needs to be there in order to gain the trust of the western consumer. However, it is an unveiling at a sony conference so I expect news in the next couple of days about future games for the platform.
