Cold showers and why you should do it.

I was forced to take cold showers for 3 days while staying at my friend's place because he had no hot water. I noticed my hair felt different, and I had more energy.

That being said, the wretched temperature I endured during these showers wasn't worth it.

Just showered not only my body, but even hair. God damnit the head and cold water.
I though its gonna explode and the water under my feet, I had to step up and let it go away.
Cold feet...

Still havent touched the hot water at home for three days in a row.

Yeah, I had to force myself to shower on cold water for a couple of months because there was a problem with the water heating.

But now that it's fixed, Fuck cold water!!

I've been doing cold showers since this thread but I really miss warm showers. It's such a nice feeling. I have this constant hankering to just wade in a pool of warm water now.

We've got an unclosable small window in my dorm's bathroom; so taking a cold shower in winter is asking for pneumonia :(.

When I go to an erotic massage place, I take a cold shower there just before the massage. It has the benefit of suppressing any premature erection and increasing the time it takes me to cum from the rub&tug, more bang for my buck.

Doesn't the cold water stiffen up your neck and make it more difficult to go down on the girl?

I have taken warm showers but not used any soap for the last couple of months and am thinking of trying cold showers. Should I start with soap again, or would that mess up my skin/hair?
?

The fuck?
Old story, I believe the thread got deleted. In short: took full service at massage parlour, discover jizz leaking from girl's vagina due to broke condom when I was about to go down on her to reciprocate my orgasm. Several months later I underwent STD tests and I'm clear.

It got deleted? Well that's why I can't find it. That thread was great.

I've been doing it since shortly after the thread was started. I used to take showers as hot as humanly possible no matter what time of year. After doing the cold shower thing I can say my skin isn't as dried out, I don't sweat... like almost not at all (even nervous sweats are subdued), it gives me a short blast of energy, and I feel much more refreshed and... cleaner (a result of no post-shower sweat I imagine). Also I'm not as cold in cold weather.

The other day it was a very windy 30 and I really wanted a hot shower, but I took a cold one and felt unusually comfortable. I've always had issues with staying warm. Even in the summer at times. Maybe they were because of the hot showers.

Anyway, I don't think I'm going back (to hot), but I do sooooo crave them sometimes.

So wait...

is your entire shower supposed to be cold or do you just turn the water cold toward the end of your shower and it in it for a bit? Does it make a difference?

Ice cold all time, you will thank me in a week!

Just took my first one.

I was a pussy and couldn't get in at first, so I turned the hot water on just a little bit so it was still cold, but not ice cube cold. I started laughing and smiling uncontrollably, as well as taking deep breaths. I washed my hair, and it was horrible. So cold.

After I lathered my body up with the finest of lavender soaps, I turned the hot water off and experienced an entirely new shock. Fuck, this cold water is fucking cold. Wow. My head felt weird, but I consciously breathed normally and it was okay. I washed myself off, and once I turned the water off and stepped out of the shower, I felt like I was thrust into a dryer full of freshly washed blankets and slippers. I was warmer than before I got in the shower (wearing a jacket, t-shirt, jeans, socks and shoes) and I was as naked as a newborn baby. I'm still feeling the warmness everywhere but my toes. I notice a huge difference in smelling the soap I used on myself. Couldn't really smell it with hot showers.

Outcome? Will shower cold from now on.

I still start out warm just to open my pores on my face for a better clean but after I'm done with the face I turn it all the way to the coldest it can be.

I've taken two cold showers now (started warm than kept changing until it got cold), thanks to this thread. I can see that my skin and hear definitely don't feel as dry as when I use to take (very) hot showers.
So yes, I'm another whose life has changed.
I don't think I ll go back :)

I'm downgrading from cold to luke-warm. I've gotten sick twice in the past couple of weeks and I rarely used to get sick. Feels like my body misses the warmth. Sorry cold water pals. At least I know I cab take a cold one like champ if I ever was forced to.

Okay GAF, I gave up soap and water because of you and now I'm going to try this cold shower approach. I know I don't stink with just hot water because my mom always tells me if I stink and she hasn't done it for the past 2 months I haven't showered with soap.

Having just done a week straight of cold showers(hot water tank issues) I was excited to take a hot shower this morning. No matter the health benefits, my body couldn't adjust to the cold water and I ended up ducking in and out to offset the cold - no thanks.

My cold shower was awesome. Only took me 5 seconds of deep breathing to get used to it. I normally do a cold showers after a workout but I never really did it as a regular shower.

No health benefits can convince me to give up the relaxing, stress-relieving, steaming hot shower I wake myself up with every morning.

I tried this for about 3 weeks and it worked out pretty great.

I stopped because it got too fucking cold here and just the idea of stepping into more cold when I could have the chance to be warm was not sitting well with me.

I'll start up again once the weather shifts.

Back to cold. Got tired of the lack of energy and excitement that a cold shower gave me. Fuck being sick and making me feel like I needed a warmer shower.

As winter approaches, anyone know if taking cold showers can actually be bad for the health? I'm worried I might catch a cold or something.

I start my shower warm for a few minutes and since this thread, the last minute I turn it cold.

Love it. It wakes me up and it seems to be doing good things for my hair and skin :)

Turned the shower to cold at the end today. Felt pretty refreshing. I have started shaving with cold water, and it's made a huge positive difference. I use a straight razor, though, so it might have something to do with that.
This is one of the things that was putting me off trying this, because I shave in the shower, but it seems fine if you shave every day.

Feeling pretty alert after my first all-cold shower. Will try again tomorrow.

Sometimes I like cold showers. They are especially delightful if you, for some reason, were to have taken some oxycodone.

I approve of the concept in this thread, though I have never tried to consistently use only cold showers. I'll consider that, though I keep it so cold in this room (maybe as low as 50-60s at times in the day which I take showers which is connected to this room directly) during this time of the year, so not sure how I'll take to that.

Now I take coldest showers everyday. At night before going to bed to be clean and in the morning to be ready for a day.

I learned to love them. Still havent touched hot water in my shower since the beginning.
Sometimes I scream when I clean my head because I do two times, once to get rid of the hair 'oil' and then when I am actualy cleaning them.

I am thinking of going swimming in lake now... In the beginning of December.

Thank you this thread.

For whoever that cant handle it - breath and tighten all muscles on body.
You will maybe hyperbreathe, but try and take one.
I am taking them withou any shock or hyperbreathing now - started from legs and now showering shoulders and upperbody first.

Awesome

btw - I am from Europe so I can shower whichever part of my body I want - not like when I was in NYC and must be standing under static shower with slightly adjustable head.

Not brave enough to do the ice cold shower thing, but I absolutely LOVE turning the water to scalding hot for a few seconds before I get out of the shower. I usually let it hit my back during this time, and it's such an oddly pleasant experience. Like you're creating an itch and scratching it at the same time - that's the only way I can describe it.

The heat overloads, then short circuits the histamine response. I have a horrible allergic reaction to poison ivy. When I get it, I'll turn the hair dryer on and essentially overheat the affected area until it's so hot I can't stand it. Stops the incessant itching for several hours at a time, just like clockwork. The extreme hot water is doing the same thing to your back, exacerbating the itch, then short circuiting it...

Wow so I have a mild allergy to nuts. If I accidentally eat one I won't die but I'll get a very irritated throat, do you think hot tea would help?

I don't understand some studies. It changes all the time.

What about a hot sauna bath? I that not healthy anymore??

Well, the problem with a study that states something like cold showers are good for the immune system is that it:
1. Is only one study.
2. Its hard, like really hard, to be sure that nothing else is affecting the result.
3. Because of the point above, its hard to replicate in a useful way.

Reliability and validity is extremely low and only popular health magazines would even think about printing it. It should really just be ignored.
That said, I just might try it to wake up in the morning..

My skin all over feel so nice and smooth. Especially on my face, smaller pores ftw. I shower with nice warm-hot water then finish with ice cold for about a minute. It gives you a nice shock and makes feel like a superhero.

Yeah I first had to do this when my hot water heater was dead for a couple days last year. Sucked initially but now I can do them no problem.

Did one after running in 40 degree (f) temps yesterday and I felt like a god after I got out. Gonna do another tonight.

There are also studies that winter/ice-hole swimming is super-healthy, so I wouldn't be surprised if cold showers are good for you too. Sure, there haven't been extensive studies, but the studies that HAVE been made have shown a clear distinction between people who do it and people who don't do it.
