She DOES need to perform something different. Every song she's performed so far has been the same. She sits down, does the same stupid hiccup after every note, and expect to be praised. She has no versatility. That's what he's criticizing her on and it's right. I don't understand how you can say that is false.
 
I've been defending Lakoda Rayne a lot, but they sounded horrid tonight. And then the judges all say it was their best performance. I don't think they're watching the same show I'm watching.

I think they'll be in the bottom three.

And please send Astro home. Yes, he writes all these lyrics. I'm thrilled. Then he raps them. HE'S NOT SINGING. Does anyone know if he can actually sing? Whatever.

He's a RAPPER not a singer. What's so hard bout this for you to get. If you don't like rap that's fine but there's no reason for him to sing, he's not a singer. He can handle hooks himself and that's all he needs as a rapper.

This. She really sounded bad at a couple points, especially when she tried to put some power in her voice.

He's picking up a pretty good following. Not much hip hop is selling right now unless you have a song with Rihanna. Only new album that seems to be doing well right now without that is Camp. That's why this is so important. We need to get old school hip hop back.

It's a talent show to find the "biggest star". Idol was a signing competition. Go watch The Voice or something if you want pure signing competition.

Also you are pre-judging because of age. Hey I'm with you I hated bow wow (except for him in Tokyo Drift as an actor as that was a fun film) too but none of his lyrics are nothing like that shit.

If Astro wins and his album sells bananas how would that bring 'old school hip hop' back? This show is catered to soccer moms and us non-soccer mom gaf'ers. And hip hop is actually doing quite well right now. There are a lot of independent labels making money off a dedicated fanbase directly and then some of the ones who hit it big get the labels and then the mega-sales. And there are plenty of rap stars debuting number 1.

and uh no you don't have to be on the streets to be a good rapper lol. I just think his rhymes are corny. But this is just me personally. I just don't think X Factor is a good forum to get your stuff out there if you're in the hip hop genre.

I don't see how his lyrics tonight were anything but shit. Bragging about Twitter followers, spending half the song listing random countries that aren't even eligible to vote, "Show me what you got, X-Factor?" Creative genius, indeed.

It's not my favorite genre, but I can still appreciate it when it's good. As for mainstream stuff, I love Jay-Z (I listen to "Off That" weekly at a minimum) and Kanye's stuff is addictive as hell. I wish he released "Paranoid" as a single, it's my favorite track of his.

Anyway, that's beside the point. Please defend Astro's lyrics from tonight. They were dreadful.

But hey, he's on the show, doing his thing. He's obviously very divisive. Some love him, some don't. I suspect he'll have a solid career; I recognize he has talent. I just don't think it belongs alongside people who are singing.

Tonight was my least favorite from him but youve been hating the entire time but the other 2 nights before that we're amazing. I'm on my iPad so it's hard to do a quick copy and paste of each line I liked in the other 2 tracks but i thought they were genius. I'll hook you up tomorrow.

That's not necessarily true. Susan Boyle came in second on Britain's Got Talent to a dance group called Diversity.

I think rap has a place on a show like X-Factor and rap acts should stand side by side with the singing acts. It is a vocal art, after all. I just don't think Astro is a good representative of the genre - he's a gimmick at best and I think the limits of his songwriting prowess will be exposed if he's still around these next few weeks. There's only so much he can do with cleverly inserting references to the judges and his fanbase.

In summary - he needs more diversity in his lyrics, and that only comes with experience and maturity. That's what people mean when they say he's too young - it's not an inherent age-based bias at all. I'm glad we're having this discussion because there's been some misunderstanding I suppose about the "haters."

If they always win what are you complaining about. Your point is wrong though it's not just a singing competition. MCing is allowed.

His last song didn't reference either judges or fan base. A love song to up hop. It was brilliant. Infact I'm going to go listen to it now instead of arguing with a self admitted mild fan of hip hop
 
Actually the message remix he did had nothing to do with judges or fans. He also has a good amount of original lyrics on YouTube he's done he can use. Wrong again.

Those are the 3 non-Drake songs in the top 5 of hip-hop songs on itunes. I hadn't heard any of them actually, just googled their lyrics.
 
come into this thread to see if everyone still hates Astro.

Some dude transcribed his performance has listened to it 30 times, and claims its the best hip hop he's heard in however many years.
