The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

I sometimes wonder if this is what really killed the PSP here. You port everything off and people will just wait and get the game on the platform they own, and eventually no one cares to get the system because they'll just wait for a console port. Then when games that are exclusives come that have no chance of going elsewhere they get no sales because anyone who would've cared stuck with their PS2 or even PS3.

Could see that happening with the Vita actually, but more unique features could make that harder, and it may even be that if they get enough of the popular iOS/Tablet games people will stick with the Vita to play those on a system better capable of handling all kinds of games.

Nah. Piracy. If i recall correct one of the GTA Stories games were needed for some early CFW jailbreak so people bought it for that reason too. All three GTA games are good but sales always dropped down, as the interest in PSP vanished in west after game droughts. Chinatown Wars was one of the best handheld games for this gen and it didn't sell shit. Even at DS. I can't find a reasonable explanation for this :D I hope Rockstar keep producing handheld games.

Gravity Daze is not a JP launch game, though.
Yeah, and that's the reason why I had the same problem. In the end I've decided to buy Lord of Apocalypse. There's a PSP demo on PSN for all that want to check it out. Uncharted may seem like a no brainer, but I'm not really that fond of a 5(?) hour single player experience being my only game on a new system, especially since there's no MP.

If you're in Japan, visit the Vita booths that are set in different parts of the country during weekends as a part of the Vita promotion campaign. Sadly, Lord of Apocalypse and Ragnarok Odyssey in which I'm the most interested, will only be available to play in Roppongi Hills.

for japan launch I think I'd get

Katamari Damacy
Ridge Racer
Uncharted
Hot Shots Golf

Little deviants I'd wait for UK launch to buy with my UK PSN account

Wipeout isn't out at launch in Japan is it?

you can't separate that from trends in gaming that the psp did not satisfy (online with multiplayer, 3d with camera control and aiming) These days even PSN/XBLA games are utilizing the second analog for aiming, camera control, or both. So it's great they have that now in addition to touch/sixaxis (if it were used intelligently, not as a gimmick). They have shown they can get the graphics good enough to be appealing but a killer app for the system has to feel right as a game more than anything else.

I was imagining the rear touch could be used as an additive to analog for camera control or fixing of aim but I've been reading it's inaccurate/prone to errors so that may turn out to be a lost opportunity.

I don't think its technically inaccurate, just that you don't have a point of reference as you can't see where your fingers are pointing, so it might feel inaccurate

Any Vita launch hype in Japan? Comgnet is showing very low pre-order numbers for the Vita launch title...?
Any retailers prediction been given?

I think it's impossible to preorder a WiFi only model now, 32GB memory cards are also gone from Amazon. Don't know about the numbers though.

Can't believe this baby releases in two weeks.

I know, I am so looking forward to peoples reports and views on the vita and games before I pre-order for the UK launch.
I can see Sony using the vita as a WiiU approach for PS4 if WiiU is a success.

I've got coming

Wifi vita
16gb memory card
Dynasty warriors next
Ultimate marvel vs capcom 3
Blazblue continuum shift 2
Power smash tennis 4
Ridge racer

Still debating uncharted little deviants and everybody golf

The port situation is something Sony needs to curb really quickly. If they port any first/second party content within the first 2 years of Vita's life, I will be insanely pissed off. It creates the "LOL why I need to buy vita for, all games ported to ps3 anyways" stigma, that will flood any big Vita game announcement thread.

Should be Takao, then another by Madmaxx a few days later; "Not sure if one has been created yet."

For a variety of reasons, I won't be creating the Vita OT. I might not even be able to make the Gravity Rush OT I had planned to do.

Not to sound like a huge ass, but I your talking about the UI. (user interface) not the OS. You won't be able to see the Vita's OS unless your studying lines of code.

I would think gaffers would know the difference between a OS and a OS's graphical interface.
When referring to the OS in a visual sense, isn't it obvious that I'm talking about its UI? Sounds like you're trying to nit pick into something that isn't there. You're trying to argue semantics and make a point about nothing.

I'm importing:

3G PS Vita
Uncharted
Ridge Racer
Dock
16gb Memory

Gonna get instant japanese psn card and download some other games.

Hong Kong copies of Uncharted will be in English, so you might want to import that version if Japanese isn't a language you fully know.

King of the Rink looks really fun to play with your significant other.

If I was Sony I would market the shit out of that. Too bad Sony are incompetent!

All I'm saying is that Rovio should port a version of Angry Birds to Vita really early...
Probably, but i'm still wondering about my question :) I'm betting that tons of those games can be made in LBP, so then people who just buy those simple games have LBP as a really good alternative when it comes to the content.

Japanese version not at all? How about voices?

Any ideas on import-friendliness of other titles?

your post would have been funny if they actually made a decent point, memory prices will go down quite soon and the Vita still lets you buy games from other countries, which would be cheaper than digital downloads anyway.

Seriously, this game man. There couldn't be a more perfect fit for Vita from Sony's franchises. People can create amazing little iPhone/Android-esque games (along with the already awesome platforming and things you could do on PS3) and all you have to have is this one game.

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of the specifics on English/Asian voice overs. I believe SCE HK's specs only listed Uncharted as supporting English and Chinese.

I read someone on Twitter saying the JPN version would have an english language option. Think it was one of the guys from the 8-4Play podcast (though could well be mistaken).

Wow, I have just started playing LBP2 on PS3 this week and I am absolutely loving it. Why this isn't more popular I will never know. It blows any platformer on the xbox360 out of the water.
This will make me buy a vita.

Sony wouldn't be able to sell first party software even if the Vita only had first party software (which at this point in time, is kind of true).

Seems you like most people are unaware that in Japan the digital downloads of Vita games are cheaper then hardcopies

I got to play the Vita at Discover Mills in Atlanta yesterday.

The system itself felt pretty solid. Didn't feel as cheap as a PSP-3000 to me, which is nice. I really wish they went with gorilla glass, instead of plastic, but oh well. The analog nubs felt small, but I think it's something that will be easy to get used to.

Uncharted was fun - it felt like Uncharted. The touch controls were annoying, especially for menu navigation. I really hope this is optional in the main game. Graphics looked on par with UC1, except for the fire effects. Those looked pretty bad, but I'm assuming this will be improved with the retail release.

Sound Shapes was by far my favorite demo - from the previews I'd read, it seemed more like a music creation game, but the demo was straight up platforming. You'd pick up little lights, which would layer more instruments/sound effects onto the music track. Really fun. They had headphones available only for this game, and the sound design really sold me on the game. I'd have no problem paying retail for it, but I really hope Sony doesn't charge $40 for it at launch - I think it'd really hurt the game's chances with the mainstream market, since the graphics are simplistic.

Hot Shots Golf looked and played fantastically. Not much more to it - it'll probably be my most played game on the system for the first year.

Didn't really play much of the other games available - LittleBigPlanet felt like LittleBigPlanet. Same for Modnation. Little Deviants wasn't set up, so I didn't get to try it. Overall, I'm looking forward to the system, if only for Hot Shots and Sound Shapes at launch.

I would guess the floaty physics. I got it (well, LBP 1) for the PSP free as part of the apology deal over the summer and never bothered downloading it because I hated the demo so much. (Why did I get it? Because I had all the others)

I'm also guessing that if you really love platformers, you probably are a Nintendo fan first.

For those who tried the final unit, how do the sticks compare to the 3DS slider's resistance and size (apple and oranges, but humor me).

I'm starting to fall in love with this thing, and the Vita's have to be either comparative or better in order to justify all the hype.
