The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

TomcatThelion: So all memory cards are $119.. wow, I didn't know that.

Little Big Planet looks absolutely fantastic. The game, from what I can tell, looks on par with Little Big Planet 2. And the touch controls really add new game-play to this game. Pretty sure I will have to pick it up.

wouldn't be surprised if two are ports of Samurai Western, Shinobido, and a version of Wizardry or Class of Heroes.

off the top of my head, their PSP games were ports of WotS1, 2, Shinobido off-shoot, all the Yuusha games, Akiba's Trip, Tenchu 4, patchwork heroes, and Gladiator Begins. They supported that system pretty well and right off the bat there are like three games for the Vita.

actually, the wildest game they could make is a sequel to Deka Voice as Deka Touch. I never had a chance to play Deka Voice because it used voice commands and was Japan only. But you can do much of the same stuff with touch screen instead.
Way of the samurai is on psp???????

I got to play the Vita at Discover Mills in Atlanta yesterday.

The system itself felt pretty solid. Didn't feel as cheap as a PSP-3000 to me, which is nice. I really wish they went with gorilla glass, instead of plastic, but oh well. The analog nubs felt small, but I think it's something that will be easy to get used to.

Uncharted was fun - it felt like Uncharted. The touch controls were annoying, especially for menu navigation. I really hope this is optional in the main game. Graphics looked on par with UC1, except for the fire effects. Those looked pretty bad, but I'm assuming this will be improved with the retail release.

Sound Shapes was by far my favorite demo - from the previews I'd read, it seemed more like a music creation game, but the demo was straight up platforming. You'd pick up little lights, which would layer more instruments/sound effects onto the music track. Really fun. They had headphones available only for this game, and the sound design really sold me on the game. I'd have no problem paying retail for it, but I really hope Sony doesn't charge $40 for it at launch - I think it'd really hurt the game's chances with the mainstream market, since the graphics are simplistic.

Hot Shots Golf looked and played fantastically. Not much more to it - it'll probably be my most played game on the system for the first year.

Didn't really play much of the other games available - LittleBigPlanet felt like LittleBigPlanet. Same for Modnation. Little Deviants wasn't set up, so I didn't get to try it. Overall, I'm looking forward to the system, if only for Hot Shots and Sound Shapes at launch.

Nice! I'm taking some friends on Tuesday to Discover Mills for just that purpose. Were they doing the prize drawing if you tried out all of the demo stations like they've done at other locations?

Yeah, they were. It was like 845p when I went, though, so nothing was going on at the time. I did get a $10 PSN card for preordering while there, but I think it was a prize for their giveaways.

Does anyone know if there's the same prize draw during the Japanese Vita events?

Way of the samurai is on psp???????

Both Way of the Samurai 1 and 2 were ported to the PSP. Only in Japan, though. I don't know if the companies who published the games in America are still around and no one else bothered localizing it.

edit: wait, checking wiki, it seems Capcom brought WotS2 over. that's so weird to me.

Sweet, thanks. We're going about midday so I'm looking forward to it.

Is Sound Shapes confirmed for launch?

Unfortunately, it seems SCEA will be holding onto Sound Shapes past the initial launch. This isn't a fault of Queasy though, since I was told the game was more or less ready to go. Seems they don't want to be too front loaded in terms of software support.

Excellent impressions in here. My US launch lineup will be:

- Wi-Fi Vita
- 32 gb memory card
- Wipeout 2048
- Hotshots Golf
- Lumines

I'm definitely down for Sound Shapes, whenever SCEA releases it. Maybe Uncharted & Ridge Racer too. Are there any deep RPGs or Action RPGs at launch?

Asphalt: Injection has me intrigued. Is it just a port of Asphalt 6? If so, I may wait until the inevetable Need for Speed game comes out.

If I import a Vita will I still be able to use US 3G carriers like t-mobile and will i be able to link with my us PS account?

You will be able to use your US account, but you won't be able to use the US 3G if you opt for a Japanese 3G model (unless it gets hacked or unlocked).

All PS3 Uncharted games had english options, so I am pretty sure Vita will as well. I can't imagine storage being a real issue.
It's not like the Vita game is on blu-ray, storage could be an issue. Probably (almost certainly) doesn't have as much in the way of pre-rendered cinematics, but it's rumored to be close to the size of the largest Vita cards at launch, so I wouldn't recommend pre-ordering it if you're wanting the non-default language for the region.

Or you could do what I'm doing and wait until play-asia sells the asian version of UC:GA which is confirmed to have english language support.

It should be selling about the same time Vita launches in Japan.

I am importing mine from Nippon Yassan.com has anyone ever brought anything from them? I am just wondering if I will get my Vita this side of Xmas!

Going to Japan first week of jan.

What are the chances of me getting a vita out of store?

I'm flying out two days before the launch. Might try picki one up on launch day, what would be my best strategy?

(although my wallet is also v.tempted by the hmz visor)

I would order the shit out of a Japanese Vita at HMV right now if I weren't so insistent that X be the action button.

so, if I ordered from HMV Japan, this console will be here before the end of the year, for £207 (that's including shipping).

If I waited until feburary for the UK release, it will cost me £229.99 in the high street stores (and amazon!!).

no brainer, really. Region free helps. Gonna order yo

Nice! And the 2nd nub means the game will actually be playable!

I thought the PSP version was impossible to play using the face buttons.

I sank many hours into the PSP version. Trick is to place your thumb in the centre of the face buttons and roll your thumb. I'd rather a second stick mind.

Do we even know if they still have stock available for D Day on HMV Japan?! Seems odd to me, I mean, retail prices, international shipping with EMS, it sounds too good to be true.....

I'm actually wondering this myself. But I'm still holding myself back. Circle for action command? Naaaah.

I just ordered one from HMV. It's 150 dollars cheaper than in Australia... Wouldn't let me get a memory card though as apparently it's prohibited for export? Where are people gettin their memory cards and uncharted from?

How much is the shipping? Is it $150 cheaper even after taking shipping into account?

First time I've entered this thread, and goddamn are there some sweet looking titles coming out for this!

amazing new Gravity Daze screenshots. I've posted more on Gravity Daze thread

That's good, looks like JPN HMV offer is the best offer then :)

ooh almost forgot how long will shipping take guys?

If it's not being sent by courier then it will take years and you'll pay customs fees that will bankrupt you.

If it's being sent by a decent courier like FedEx, DHL or UPS, then 3-5 days if there are no delays due to holiday rush.
