The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

It's 640MB total (512MB + 128MB VRAM).

I actually wouldn't be too surprised if up to 256MB was used by the OS. But I'm not sure those shinobido screens are enlightening wrt that, they have some contradictory numbers between different shots etc.

surely there is no way they use half the main memory for the OS? that just seems overkill?

Why does there have to be a megathread? Everytime I stumble on here there's new games/media I never knew about
What happened to new news new thread??

Generally the hope is that anyone who posts something notable in here also makes sure to either A.) make a new thread or B.) put it in a thread related to the game.

But yeah, if this becomes too problematic, eventually it will have to be locked up.

I don't see a problem with information being duplicated in this thread, especially since we get a lot of minor updates, but it should still at least appear in a thread related to that product if it's notable.

Ugh.... SONY should close "Zipper Interactive" and aquire "Ready at Dawn Studio" ;-/
(Zipper's games were and are always ugly as shit)

What the shit is this?

As much as I dislike what they did to a certain franchise, I don't ever want to see them close down. Zipper still has the potential to create great multiplayer games.

Haha yes, I'm still holding out for that true Socom game.

Is there any precedent for companies selling memcards/other required peripherals?

I seem to remember the Mempak being sold separately in Japan for the N64 but included in America, as well as the expansion pak for certain games being unbundled in Japan but bundled in the US/overseas.

Do you think Sony feels that Japanese customers might be more accepting of buying the memcard separately, whereas in other territories they will ship them together?

I think Sony does "starter pack" things where you get ear phones, a tiny memory card (4GB yo), a pouch, and a screen wipe. Or at least I think they did on PSP.

I know for US launch, PSP was only sold in a $250 bundle with a 32MB memory card. In Japan it was $50 less, and without the memory card. But I guess that's the Early Bird Vita version this time around...

I'm really hoping for a bit more variety in the bundling leading up to launch.
Luckily, we still have over two months.

My memory isn't perfect, but didn't some N64 games require the external memory "pak" to save?

Edit, from Wikipedia:

A Controller Pak was initially useful or even necessary for the earlier N64 games. Over time, the Controller Pak lost ground to the convenience of a battery backed SRAM (or EEPROM) found in some cartridges. Because the Nintendo 64 used a game cartridge format that allows saving data on the cartridges themselves, few first party and second party games used the Controller Pak.[4] The vast majority were from third-party developers, likely because of cost expenses: including self-contained data on the cartridge would have increased production and retail costs. Some games used it to save optional data that was too large for the cartridge, such as Mario Kart 64, which used 121 pages for storing ghost data.[5] Another game is Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, which uses 11 pages.[6] Quest 64 and Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon used the Controller Pak exclusively for saved data. The Japan-only game Animal Forest used the Controller Pak to travel to other towns.

Sounds like companies went with external memory card over internal saving to save costs on manufacturing the game itself. Wouldn't that probably also apply to these Vita games?

Ah, Takao, you changed you avy. What inside the present?

Memory sticks?

Money to afford all of this stuff,
especially for the memory sticks
.

Seems that only happened in the US.

"Value Pack bundle will be the only SKU available to American consumers"

Well, in the conversation opener I did say US launch. ;)

Canada had some bundle with Gretzky NHL at launch. I know that because it's the one I own, lol.

The third party launch lineup is getting packed

Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom
Touch My Katamary
Ridge Racer
F1 2011
Rayman Origins
Fifa
Dynasty Warriors Next
Blazblue: Continuum Shift Extend
Lumines: Electronic Symphony
Lego Harry Potter: Years 5–7
Michael Jackson: The Experience
Shinobido 2: Tales of the Ninja
Silent Hill: Book of Memories
Virtua Tennis 4
Army Corps of Hell

And I'm probably forgetting some of them.

From that list:

Shinobido 2 & Lumines are "day 1," unless they turn out to be giant turds.

Rayman and Army Corps of Hell are "maybes" for now.

fuck.... i already have 4 games preordered so i can't even get any of these lol.

I'll choose 2-3 (depending of the price) between:
- Uncharted
- Wipeout
- Shinobido 2
- Touch my Katamari (if it's playable with the analogs)
- Gravity Rush

And some others will fall as soon as they get a sale.

The PSP didn't require the memory stick to play the games though.
Some did. I was really surprised when I tried to play Killzone: Liberation on my brand new machine and it didn't let me. The clerk in the store I bought it from never mentioned anything about a memory card.

Wipeout and Uncharted are must for me.
Ridge Racer, Lumines and UMVC3 too, but first I want to see their pricing, features, size and reviews. Maybe one I'll buy one of them in PSN, and the others after some months.

If I was Sony, I wouldn't release any major PS3 title from late feb. to June. I'll be busy with Vita stuff.

My PS1 didn't come with a memory card.

Bolded ones for me first + Sound Shape. Not as big of a fan of the Uncharted series as a lot of other people around here so it can wait.

Also, yes, Katamari is playable with the analog sticks. The gyro-control is just an alternative way of controlling the game.

Are all these titles confirmed for the european launch as well?

Seriously? I had no idea. I guess I'll stop talking out of my ass then.
