The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

This may be the wrong place to ask about memory cards but has anything been mentioned about third party memory cards? I'm hoping some will be available at launch or shortly after? I always remembered going for the cheaper SanDisk cards and having no problems with them.

The cards are proprietary and Sony hasn't said anything about licensing the tech out like Pro Duo was.

The people who have been horribly disfigured by the crab claw setup for years.
Kind of offtopic question, but I'm doing a presentation on Vita for one of my Japanese classes (biggest hardware premiere of 2012) and I want to talk about the advantage of twin analog sticks, using my PSP to show what you had to with your hands when playing MH-like games. What's the most popular name of that "technique"? Isn't it just "the claw"?

Edit:
Translated Famitsu report from the Roppongi event on andriasang.

I actually don't mind the claw... if I'm using it to switch between items like in Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. Controlling a camera with it is kind of ludicrous.

But yeah, some people may've gotten so used to that on PSP (or only EVER played that way) that the idea of using twin sticks is insane, plus there's only two shoulder buttons unlike console controllers so perhaps they'll want the face buttons free for whatever.

EDIT: Actually, I realized you'd probably just use the claw on the right hand instead of the left for Ragnarok. Depending on what you DO with that I'd prefer it easily.

I think it's just "the claw" but I didn't know if that was absolutley correct so i just added crab for posterity's sake.

Yes.

e.g., In Japan, Vita will also launch with a movie streaming app that will be upgraded to stream live games later.

The WebKit browser is another non-game app.

Not sure if they are available at launch, but Music and Video Unlimited are headed for Vita for sure.
That 5inch OLED Screen, plus a good E-book and comic reader would be pretty nice.

There been things going around about Monster Hunter and this platform this week, from this to rumors that MH is Sony's JUMP Festa surprise. I don't really care at this point, since announcing a Vita game after the first 3DS game has been released is kind of pointless. I actually kind of hope their JUMP Festa announcement is something exciting, which Monster Hunter isn't at least for me.
When did this JUMP "surprise" even originate, and what's the source? I hope it's something literally "surprising" and interesting to me, for once.

I have to admit, I'd probably prefer reading on the Vita over a 7-inch or 10-inch tablet just because it'll be that much lighter. Holding 7-inch tablets like the Kindle Fire in my hand is kind of surprising at how heavy it is, and I don't believe the Vita's much heavier than the PSP is.

Well, there's this:
The exact weight of the PSP Vita is still not exactly known but reports are that it is lighter than the PSP-3000 which is 189 grams but the PS Vita is bulkier.
But it's a bit outdated. According to the official Vita pamphlet, the 3G/WiFi model is 279 grams and the WiFi only model is 260 grams.

Yeah, I didn't think it'd be lighter just because of being the same type of device but bigger, it probably just SEEMED lighter because of how the weight to mass ratio scaled and what people expected. Still, that's about 2/3rds the weight of the kindle fire, so that should help a decent amount, and the resolution probably isn't that bad for reading.
come damn it, must not let myself buy a vita yet. BUT SO SEXAY.
I was set on getting it ASAP, but the slew of games coming out then for everything else plus the fact it's ONLY black at launch have me seriously considering waiting at least until colored bundles start rolling out. Helps that the memory costs a lot and the PSP-3000 went on sale for $100, so it's more practical to just replace my 2000 at last and wait a bit longer.

yeah, i'll be waiting until a color i want launches, too. i'm not dealing with shitty memcard prices AND a color i don't want. shitty memcard prices and a color i do want? easier to swallow. ;p

I wonder if Sony is smart enough to release more colors at a faster and steadier pace than they did with the PSP. They should take notes from the 3DS.

So the 3G model weighs exactly the same as the PSP-1000. The PSP2K/3K was the sweet spot in terms of weight, I could play on it for hours without feeling the strain.

If the vita struggles they definitely will. They'll probably do what the 3ds has done (minus massive price cut if they can't take it) lots of colors and lots of bundles.

You only release new colors when you're looking to increase the sales of a platform. That's all Nintendo is doing with the 3DS.

SCEA's become pretty bad about keeping multiple colors out there, but I want them for PS Vita simply because it's a portable system, I want there to be at least 3 or 4 just so I can have a bit of distinction and not EVERYONE'S is the same until they start throwing garbage like stickers or cases on them, not that cases will do much good with how little room CAN be covered. It's kind of frustrating the 3000 is only in Black now, but at least I could've gotten a colored bundle earlier, either the White or Blue one, rather than kept waiting until my screen got to me too much.

you can find the peace walker & hannah montana bundles around certain places still.

Probably would've needed to look deeper for Peace Walker, and I'm not a huge fan of purple, or at least that kind of light pink-ish purple. Green and Red are acceptable for me, though I'd prefer white or a non-light blue. Black's fine too, but that's kind of overdone with electronics and Sony has trouble moving away from that at all, even dark grey's preferable at this point.

Edit: Although SPECIAL ones like that camo one or the NES/Famicom Game Boy models are very nice, even a slight twist like the Zelda 3DS is good.

Who is doing it? You should do it if no one else would.
You or that bum Takao :P
I've never done an OT and seeing all the great threads around makes me want to do it even less. Plus, I think that someone said that he'll do it anyway.

Edit:
And Takao's OT would probably just contain something like this:

I suck at photoshop, deal with it.

Edit2:
Seems that this sorry excuse for a tombstone killed the topic. :<

Responding to earlier report: Even if LKS doesn't make it to the States if it's coming to Europe via Konami with English then that would be an easy import pickup. That's excellent news. Region free gaming ftw~!

Now, about Ragnarok.... (please!)

If you're going to do an OT, do it proper. Don't get all doom and gloom. I don't care to have a thread established with a running joke as the anchor. We all know it's not going to light it up but we also all know it will be quite cool and potentially great.

If I had to chose, I will a Vita right now. But I have been thinking... I really like the GO form factor. Maybe I should wait for a redesign?

No, must, buy, new, hardware... But form factor...

I'm disappointed that more of the PS3 HD Collections haven't been announced for Vita.

I'd definitely play ICO/SOTC and the Jak Collection on the go.

What are the chances of a SH collection? :/

The GO form factor is not ideal at all. Ultra-cramped, especially if your hands are a bit larger. Don't be fooled.

I don't think the form factor will change. Its important that the rear track-pad is behind the screen. Especially for games that require the 'pinch' move.

If I had to nitpick my one problem with Vita from the touching I did on the in-store models, it's a bit too big. I know the screen is probably great (will find out tomorrow), but the whole thing is pretty far from "portable". As I don't really put my consoles in my pockets this won't be a problem, but I wonder if we'll ever get our "pocket" consoles back.

Since my question wasn't really answered before,　I'll ask again. Does anyone know if the Nico Nico Douga app will allow game streaming from the get go, or is it just a "planned feature"?

It's a tool in development for devs to use it if they want to. Not every game will support it.

Ah, too bad - I thought it will be the app's feature and it'll be supported by everything. No release day streaming then.

I really love the PSP Go's form factor also but for some strange reason I want Sony to go to a larger form factor with a Vita redesign.

I'd buy the fuck out of a Vita/Tablet hybrid with an 7 inch or 10 inch screen, with all of the Vita's inputs.

Probably a stupid question, but if I'm logged in to PSN on Vita and my friend is logged in on his PS3, will he be able to see what game I'm playing? I like presence data like that.

Probably yeah, don't see why it wouldn't work like that if PSV has friend notifications and all that stuff.

It's an update to the app planned for 2012. As mentioned before, it's only select titles. :(

October 31 from Sony themselves. JUMP Festa is the weekend Vita launches, so if they have some super ultra big secret title to announce, it would be a cool idea to drop the bomb then.
