The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

Uncharted
For being the Vita's showcase title, the graphics were kind of disappointing. It seemed to look better in videos and such. It's aliased to hell and it just looks low-res. The game is what you expect, but personally I'm not an Uncharted fan.

I've never quite understood all the hubub about uncharted on vita. Yes, it looks good, but mind blowingly good? Eh. *shrugs*

Nicest thing about vita is that big ol sexy screen. I just wish it could like, fold into a tiny pocket sized cube that's easy to carry around. You know, use like cross inter-dimensional shift or something to spontaneously reduce it's mass and volume. Easy shit.

Why would you assume otherwise?

If I physically own a copy, that's priced at a higher price than the digital version. Why wouldn't I be able to download a copy onto a memory card?

Kind of like the Blu Ray/DVD/Digital Copy bundles a lot of new releases come as.

Kind of like installing a program on your HDD (Replace HDD with Proprietary Vita card) and not having to use the disc/card ever again. Specific serial number/one time use code for your account.

For your first example, not only is the price of the download incorporated into the total, the download is of inferior quality.

For your second example, there has been no indication that there will be any kind of serial number system. For it to work the same way on the Vita, you would not be able to use the game card to launch the game.

Crapcon scams:

According to an Iwata asks for Monster Hunter Tri G, Capcom had already decided on production in December 2010 to make Tri G on 3DS. This was weeks after Sony basically did everything they could to make Portable 3rd a success on PSP (including releasing a very cool MH-only PSP revision), and weeks before Capcom would go on stage at the PlayStation Meeting of 2011 alongside a then called "NGP" to showcase Portable 3rd running with two analog sticks.

Sony needs to take a page out of Raiden's book, and make their own Revengeance.

How did Sony make Monster Hunter a success on PSP? If bundles are some unwritten pledge of loyalty, does that mean Hannah Montana is forever indebted to Sony?

Capcom are a third-party developer, they can do whatever they want. I don't see how making a logical business decision is a form of betrayal when they never owed Sony anything in the first place.

Gravity Daze makes it really hard to resist buying this at launch... But I need to, I don't wanna be burned by another 3DS shitty launch period again >.>

I can't believe this much stupidity is coming out from you... "Sony did everything they could to make MHP3 a success"? A very limited bundle isn't really that much you know...

Did they pay for marketing? Did they publish it? Honest question here.

Sony didn't just do any bundle for Monster Hunter (though they did tonnes of normal ones too). They designed a brand new PSP unit that has only ever been released with Monster Hunter:

(Notice the different analog nub, and the protruding battery enhanced sides)

Metal Gear didn't get that. Final Fantasy didn't get that. God of War didn't get that. Grand Theft Auto didn't get that. Gran Turismo didn't get that. Not even Hannah Montana got that. Monster Hunter got that.

Sony went beyond what they've ever done for a game on PSP with Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, even so much as making it the flagship release in their PSP HD Remaster line all the while Capcom was cooking something mighty nasty.

Does Capcom owe anything to Sony? No, they don't. Was what they did scummy? I think so. It's only worsened by the fact that despite Capcom having some of the largest success on PSP, they have by far the worst announced lineup of Vita games of all the major Japanese third parties.

I wasn't aware whether Sony had stated anything about bundles of that nature. Since the current rumor is cheaper digital games more expensive physical copies. It's not too far fetched to deduce that there's a possibility the digital copy price is already incorporated into the physical copy price if said rumor is true. Especially since Sony is pushing hard for digital distribution.

As for your second point, Steam.

Are you talking about the Japanese or America/Europe launch? The former is already pretty good but the latter will be adding quite a few notable titles such that a repeat of the 3DS launch period is an impossibility.

The 3DS's launch lineup was anemic in breadth and scope. The Vita's, especially come spring 2012 for America and Europe, will not be. I won't do list wars at this point but check the launch period games for the Vita compared to what the 3DS had. It's a pretty giant difference.

I grant you that at this point we don't really know what titles are planned for late spring/early summer and the rest of 2012 and if we haven't heard more about that by the time the Vita launches in America then there really might be room for worry. The launch window, however, looks great. I for one, cannot wait for Dragon's Crown.

Trust me, the saga isn't over yet. Just like when MH3 came out for Wii.

Honestly Don't see the problem with MH going to Nintendo platform, my problem is that capcom has a grand total of 2(!!) games for the system, with 1 making launch and the other? Coming out around march next year, and why the fuck isn't MHP3rd localized yet?

Then its sales outside PS dissapoints them (Code Veronica in DC, RE4 or RE0, RE-make in GC, Chronicles games in Wii) and went back to make money in PS platforms (RE4, RECVC, Chronicles HD). Then they announce RE portable for PSP.

They release RE5 and it's their 2nd all time best selling game, the best selling RE. But RE portable dissapears and instead they announce 2 RE games for 3DS. I bet their sales won't be so huge and they will prefer to port them to Vita after some time.

Same goes with MH: PS2 doesn't sell very well, but PSP games sales of enhaced ports were awesome.
They cancel MH3 PS3 and move it to Wii. Its sales are worst than in PSP.
They release MHP3rd in PSP and its their best selling portable game ever and the best one in the IP. Instead of puttin MH3G and MH4 in Vita, they choose 3DS.
Again, I bet 3DS won't be PSP like numbers and they will port them to Vita after some time.

...Aww :)

MHP3rd isn't coming over. Basically SCEA rejected the HD version (and it seems Capcom US has no interest in the PSP version) because it didn't have a native online mode, but rather used a version of Ad-Hoc Party SCEA had yet to update to. It would've been swell if Capcom US sprung for a true online mode, but that's obviously too much work.

i want those hello kitty christmas things

That's Toro. He's a Sony mascot in Asia. I don't know why they don't use him elsewhere.

Damnit, if it wasn't for UC I wouldn't even be thinking of buying one at launch. Now I'm going to try and scrap together enough for one.

They really shouldn't have, it's not the first time SCE's been burned, by Capcom with a Monster Hunter 3 exclusive going to Nintendo.

SCEJ needed to start buying some developers the day FFXIII went multi-platform, even if losing MH3 to the Wii wasn't enough (or DMC4, or...). Fool SCE three or four times, shame on the publishers, after that, SCE... uh, is still getting fooled. Again.

SCEJ is worthless, this has already been established.

Capcom is NOT wrong for taking moneyhats from Nintendo.
Namco/SE are NOT wrong for taking moneyhats from Microsoft
SCEJ is wrong for not expanding internally and buying out smaller developers.

It's business, you don't stay with Sony, or any other company for that matter, because they are close. We can be friends after the business is done.

Gust would have been a decent acquisition as it sold relatively cheap for < U$30 million, they are talented enough and have a niche following their Atelier games, yet they sit on their laurels and Koei Tecmo snatches them up. From Software and Platinum Games are others SCEJ should look at. Supposedly Team ICO and PD have expanded and gone to bigger buildings and whatnot, but with the development hell that TLG is in and with rumors of Ueda leaving, I find that hard to believe.

Really, it's embarrassing for SCEJ if you look at the way SCEA and SCEE have been expanding, as well as buying out close developers over the past two generations. Let's not forget that only with GOWIII did SCEJ start publishing those games in Japan because before SCEA had to go through Capcom. Pathetic.

Livestream!? EXCITE

Any launch games in mind yet? Though you could probably do enough just on the UI and what we've seen hardly any of (ex. web browser, trophies)

I'll have 2 3G Vitas 2 HD cameras, direct feed from PS3 to show how the transfer process works and 2 mics. Mehdi and myself will start from about 11am JST.
I'm in the process of making a thread, I'll post it once it's done.

Titles on show:

Uncharted
Minna no Golf 6
Ridge Racer
Army Corps of Hell
Dream Club
Dynasty Warriors
Power Smash Tennis
Little Deviants (downloadable title 2,000)
AR Combat (free download game from Konami).

were the price points for PSN versions of games actually confirmed?

Just getting my final list together :)

If you're talking about the Japanese Vita games - yeah. You can check them here, clicking on the PSN "boxes".

There's probably a neat list somewhere, but look for it yourself if that link isn't enough. ;d

would love to know how the mem card load times stack against the game cards.

Getting mine at Bic Camera, along with Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. Still thinking about which size of card to get though... 8 or 16GB.

I've got mine preordered at Yodobashi along with a 32GB card.
Planning to buy all my games online.
Or, at least, I had planned that, but I might pick a couple up at retail. Really can't decide.

Launch games I plan to buy either way:
Uncharted
MinGol 6
Ridge Racer
Monster Radar
Little Deviants
Katamari

Hype levels rising (again). This is getting close! I have a buddy in Japan gettin it Day 1. So jelly.
