Complaining about the word 'overrated' is overrated.

I don't know if this ironically or un-ironically proving my point!

Overrated means 'other people shouldn't like something as much as they do. How dare they, and others, like a popular thing when I know it's really not as good as they THINK it is because I have much better taste than them. They're just a bunch of sheep, lead by the hive-mind while I am myself, a singular individual with unique and refined taste'.

I know you're being sarcastic but it always feel oddly plausible to assume that you're being serious.

But then a movie like Avatar comes along and single-handedly justifies the word.

Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito: A heartful treatise on the everlasting immutability of love through the bounds of time, space, family relations, and logic. Through the enacting of rape fantasies pandering to the ever-present male gaze which are thinly disguised as dangerous scenarios continually threatening our supposedly empowered female lead, nay, protagonist, YamiHat follows Terry Goodkind's model of "almost rape" as a legitimate plot device to reveal the tension inherent in allowing misogyny to exist alongside a vague attempt to write an empowered female character. It cleverly allows us identification with the sexually-frustrated and literally masturbatory lead, thereby pointing the finger back at us. YamiHat also manages, through the use of careful editing, staging, and mise-en-scene, to impress upon the viewer the powerful orbital rotation capable of those works of the literary medium known as books. It's influence is as far and wide as Mawaru Penguin Drum (magical hats) and Aoi Hana (lesbian incest) and as such I continue to hold out hope that, someday, this series will become the necessary catalyst to change the world we live in.
But at least Eva will return as her daughter. How sweet.

"If you like politically charged sci-fi on an epic scale—along with sassy teen pilots in slinky lingerie, boozing pirates sporting eyepatches and a strong undercurrent of swirling ambisexual possibilities—Glass Fleet is definitely your show." — Jack Wiedrick, Newtype USA

Once again proving why print journalism is here to stay.

In the interest of full disclosure, I should reveal that
I haven't actually watched the last five episodes of YamiHat.

Oh my god SPOILERS.

Don't worry icarus-daedelus, one day you'll find the strength.
I'm probably the most hipster in that; I literally look down on everyone else here intellectuality because you don't share the same general taste as me..

To think that cosmicblizzard accuses me of being a high-tier monocle (whatever that is)!

My perception of you is crumbling.

Search your heart and tell me truthfully: which of these would you choose, Jexhius? Eh? Eh?
Well, I chose Yami as I was able to finish it.

And after this I feel that I made the right choice. It's like I've been vindicated years later.
Strike Witches: A sobering look at a war torn and poverty stricken future Japan where the country is beset by war and famine so much so that little girls are unable to purchase pants. Truly the anime of our generation.
Great, now explain why the rest of the world doesn't wear pants!
Once again proving why print journalism is here to stay.
But Newtype USA didn't stay.

It's like, I could watch Yami on my shitty laptop or I could watch remastered Utena on my HDTV. Search your heart and tell me truthfully: which of these would you choose, Jexhius? Eh? Eh?

If they ever released Utena on Blu-ray, I would actually consider watching
the last few episodes
.

So salty in this thread.
I motion we all go watch Usagi Drop until we hnnnngh to death.
Whoever dies last has to turn off the tv.

Wait, I have to die and then turn the TV off AFTER I'm dead? Fuck that, I'll just kill you all and leave nonchalantly out the front door. Don't worry, I'm only going to kill you guys because of how much I love you all!

This doesn't work without the Yuno avatar. At all.

What would I, personally chose? I suppose I'd have to pull a Grave of the Fireflies/Totoro and a Pop Chaser/Project-Ako deal and watch them back-to-back!

Not necessarily. Who knows what kind of yandere tendencies Char might have hidden deep beneath that kind exterior?

Wait, what. Pop Chaser and Project A-ko as a double bill? Tell me more...

Well as you may or may not be aware Project A-ko started out as a 'Cream Lemon' hentai title before they made it into a full length movie and took out most of the smut. Then they ran it as a double bill! Ah, the 80's....

Is this what it's come to? Lies and deceit? You ask for the most terrible of anime and then flee when it actually shows itself?

And now you got me to spoil stuff for you. Unacceptable.

I even gave you PGSM as an out! Fake bad instead of true bad!

Certain words should be tossed and certain words just need to be retired for a little while until folks can learn to use them properly.

Into the former category goes "hipster" and "uguu." Into the latter category I would place "pretentious" and "moe."

Cajunator would be never be able to post again :(.

But what if it's all revealed that
I was pretending to flake out to expose the weakness of your faith in me, only to post full glorious screencap-and-rage-filled reviews tomorrow morning and upstage you in a shocking twist?
Ha! You are already dead!

Tune in next week!
I fully believed in you until you admitted to lying!
