NHL December |OT| The Team You Cheer For is Not Good Compared To Our Team

Leafs-Age you'll have to hold it down for me tonight and tomorrow. Got a plethora of Christmas parties I'm going to, I'm not going to be anywhere near a computer to comment during the games.

Normally I'd be worried but over the years the captain and Manics have been able to assemble a great team here, I'm sure one of you will be able to pick up the slack while I'm gone.

Wish flyers gaf could put together a team. I mean we could probably get a few lines:

Bruce - slurmer - t0mp
yankee - zod - jabee
Uhhhhh
Brian - hubes - takao

Didn't make training camp: penis, bigjohnson
headcoach: marvie
Ast. Coach: revenant
Equipment manager: tabris

I'm sure I missed someone.. I'm just trying to avoid studying for my final in 30 mins.

open positions that need to be filled by the deadline: FOURTH LINE, ALL D, GOALIE/BACKUP.

I see so the chairman of the department of neurosurgery for West Penn Allegheny Health System is not credible?

Right.
Yeah he's a brain surgeon and all but he doesn't know the specifics of crosbys condition..

He can judge from previous things he has seen but he hasn't seen crosby so how would he know?

Sorry for the dbl posts, again my phone won't scroll to the bottom of a long post on second apps.. :(

I'm a Flyers fan and I had both Giroux and Pronger on my fantasy team, so all of this recent news has been very hard on me.

The Flyers have shown they can win without Pronger. Lots of time left before the trade deadline, so they're free to just sit on what they have for now and see what happens. I've got a lot of confidence in Holmgren right now to do what's right for the team without freaking out and doing something rash.

Don't remember seeing you around, so welcome! Go Flyers!

How the hell you trust Holmgren not to do something rash is beyond me....

t0mp: I think you were thinking of JABEE, and now we have brian too! O, and Takao was around during the playoffs but he hasn't been around in a while....

I'm missing the game tonight too, have a Christmas party.

I'm also going to a Christmas party tonight, so I'm missing the game, but Leafs-Age can easily cover me. /depth

Don't know if there's any interest at all with the Turris trade watch (not that it's been a big deal), but Darren Dreger updated on it:

Told the Calgary Flames are out of the Turris hunt. Ottawa still has interest. Wpg isn't in. Toronto is in its freeze (lol)...

"Toronto is in its freeze" is, what I'm assuming, Burke's personal policy on not making trades around Christmastime, so players can spend the holidays without worrying about getting traded.

This is correct. Double-B has his own internal "trading deadline" before Christmas and before the official NHL trade freeze. Not sure what day the NHL trade freeze goes in officially during the Christmas break, but Double-B's is more caring towards human beings.

I think it is the 19th.

He typed lol at Burke's trade freeze... Hah wow.

Tangradi called up, yay! He's much better than Williams. Picard also called up, boo! That means Michalek isn't ready yet.

You can't be serious Schuey. Doesn't Cammy have like one of the best snap wrist shots in the league? Plus a true playoff performer?

He probably just needs to be motivated again.

Yeah. It was late and I was tired and annoyed that we lost the game. He is great in the playoffs. Playing with Pleks who is also stuggling isn't helping him. If he could play with Patches or some other bigger players it would probably help, but you can't break up the Habs top line.

If he gets less than 20 goals this year that is not good or acceptable though.

I'm convinced that he's been playing hurt most of the season. As for lines, its a double edged sword. Yes, Patches-DD-Cole is great. But Cammy looked his best all season when he was with DD and Cole. And we know Patches can play with anyone. And Pleks isn't really a guy who makes space for Cammy. If I had a chance to tinker lines for a few games, I'd try:

AK-Pleks-Patches (power forward-two way center-power forward)
Cammy-DD-Cole (sniper-playmaker-power forward)
Leblanc-Eller-Gionta (cerebral winger-power forward-heart)
Weber-Nokes-Moen (shooter-faceoff specialist-versatile forward)

Spread the size across each line.

I honestly believe he overtrains too much in the offseason...his small frame can't handle it.
Look at Kessel on the other hand, he hangs out at Starbucks all summer having lattes and pumpkin scones and he still manages to light it up with more than 30 goals a year.

Like those lines. I would be pretty suprised if they had Gio on the 3rd line, but it is the only fit. I'm looking forward to having White back as well. That will give the 4th line a boost. When Gomez comes back he is going to mess everything up.

With White, Gomer and Markov back, Leblanc and Diaz to Hamilton and Weber traded:

AK-Pleks-Patches
Cammy-DD-Cole
Moen-Eller-Gionta
Nokes-Gomez-White

Subban-Gill
Markov-Emelin
Kaberle-Campoli

PP1:
Patches
Pleks
Cammy
Markov
Kaberle

PP2:
Cole
DD
AK
Subban
Emelin

Actually, I expect its going to be Eller that is going to get fucked over by Martin when Gomez returns, not DD. Martin loves DD whereas Eller is his whipping boy.

LeBlanc's ice time last night was pretty annoying. I would like to see Martin try and coach Edmonton. That would be a fucking disaster. So many rookies he could put in their place.

Is all the Eller talking just you guys messing with Manics? I dont watch many Habs games but I dont recall him doing anything last night, and a quick check on NHL.com shows him to have 2 goals and 7 assists in 30 games. I could see those numbers for a rookie but he played 77 games last year.

Yeah, he "rewards" Eller and Leblanc when they play well by benching them.

Yeah what was up with that? I was in and out watching that game but I saw Leblanc got his first goal then the noted in the third he had only played 50 seconds...

He can stick handle nice, but has no finish yet and is also prone to hanging on to the puck too long in D-zone (that probably drives Martin crazy).

Mike Milbury charged with assault and battery on a twelve year old.

After reading the article it sounds more like he was sticking up for his son, but who knows. Would like to hear more.

Its Martin's dumbass way. Eller played his best period and a half as a pro a few weeks ago and had 2 assists, and then Martin benched him the entire third. Leblanc scores his first pro goal, as a Quebec kid playing on the Habs IN Montreal, and what does Martin do? BENCHED!

Really impressed with Leblanc so far. Kid's gonna be a good one. Ive been calling him Pleks 2.0, and that really showed after he scored - dude was straight up gangsta with a straight face as if he'd scored 1000 times, like Plek. He should be our fulltime third line centre next year. Hes ready.

Is that aimed at me? I can't think of many civil assaults I've defended... I also think I'm pretty even about who I give the benefit of the doubt to. I remember being one of only a few non-Bruins-Age people defending some of the Bruins' hits in the playoffs last year.
Pretty much. When did I defend assault? I could throw in that you defended Joe Paterno.

Joe Paterno was never accused of a crime, nor realistically could be, kinda like Mike Milbury's assault. I think you missed my defense of him too, my point was that the school owed him more loyalty than to make him public martyr #1, but that's not really relevant here. Milbury assaulted a kid. Defending his own kid has nothing to do with it.

Man, the Turris thing should be a bigger deal than it is. To me it's obviously a case of a kid with a ton of skill in a terrible fit right now. He clearly doesn't want to be in Phoenix and he hasn't been getting the ice time (or linemates) to produce like a 3rd overall pick should.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he started tearing it up with whoever he's traded to.

It's relevant if you are going to accuse me of advocating assault. Seems in your mind violently raping over a dozen boys is on the same level as shaking a twelve year old after a fight.

Um I never defended Sandusky.... straw man much? I also never said you advocated assault, but regardless of Milbury's intentions what he did was likely illegal.

And if THAT'S what you're calling me a hypocrite for I'm actually more ok with it. Especially, since I don't really disagree with you there. Rather I just think Penn State treated Joe Pa worse than it treated a lot more culpable people. I was more offended of being considered a homer. :/ Like I've said, and I think even Socreges will likely back me up on this, that I tend to be pretty equal in my calls for what is or isn't dirty. Hell, I agreed with Red_Man like four times last night that the Habs were getting screwed by the refs.

Defending Joe Paterno is defending child rape, its as simple as that. I could derail the hell out of this thread of you push me on that.

I'm not defending Milbury. The only articles I have seen are less than a page long and mentions he shook a kid after getting into a fight with his son. If I could charge other adults who did something similar to me when I was a kid, I would have been in court a dozen times.

The fact he is being charged leads me to believe it is worse than the articles portray it currently.

Foligno and McQuaid played junior hockey together so they're not going to get into some battle of words in the media, he gave him the benefit of the doubt.

McQuaid pretty much says that Foligno made a quick move to get around him so he had to get in his way and the only thing he could do is stick his leg out.
Just what this story needed, a cover up. So you aren't willing to give him the benefit of the doubt regarding intent? McQuaid is not a cheap shot artist and why would he go after the knee of a friend? There was no intent to injure and I think that's what both players were talking about.

Since he plays for the Bruins he knows he can get away with it.
Really?

It was a stupid move and he's lucky no one got hurt. No admission of that on his part, just the old "I was making a hockey play I wasn't trying to hurt anyone !".

Adam McQuaid said:
“If I could take it back, I definitely would,” said McQuaid, who blocked a pair of shots and registered three hits in. “It was one of those things where you go, ‘Oh, crap’, right after it happened.

"The penalty was deserved. That’s not me at all. I think that’s actually my first major penalty in my career outside of the fighting calls, and I don’t plan on getting any more.”

Whoops.

Oh well no one got hurt and he got Shanafined for pocket change. Not even worth it at this point.

Great point. Foligno missed 1 shift and was out there for the ensuing penalty. There was no intent to injure. $2,500 is the maximum amount a player can get fined and he got a 5 minute major plus a game misconduct.

Case closed.

Deal with it.

Maybe not. It could be a case of trying to embezzle money from a relatively big name. Obviously I don't know the particulars of the case, but maybe the family of the boy are trying to pressure Milbury into settling out of court or something like that.

Well that is the only alternative that sticks. The time line seems pretty spread out, so they would have had to found something that stuck.

Seriously, as if some people here have never seen parents at youth hockey games... Also, I'd want to know what exactly the other kid did to Millbury's son before picking a side on the story.

At around 12 years-old playing in a hockey tournament, one kid on the other team speared one of my teammates in the throat with his stick. The place erupted- and one father went onto the ice (not even the father of the injured kid), grabbed the facemask of the kid, who dealt the spear, and began shaking the kid's head. To this day, I think the kid certainly deserved it.
