Well that was short lived. Impatience got the best of me and lost to a Bison and Guile. Beat IPeru and eliminated F.Champ along the way so I guess there's always keeping my head up cause of that. I didn't realize there was so much waiting around at big majors like these.

Here's the video my friend recorded of the fchamp match (it gets loud of of nowhere): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kG36QhfF1Uc

Watching the Skullgirls archives, this hype dude in the background is killing me.
The Skullgirls stream was amazing. I never expected it to get so much love from an old school MvC2 player and the game looks faster and more intense every time I see it. It could SERIOUSLY open up if it is a hit at launch and the team obtains money for another five or six DLC characters. Having BlazBlue quality online paired with this game could seriously be huge after seeing how well it fared at SCR today.

I also think that I may have to give everyone a more sincere try before I settle on Valentine and Parasoul. I can tell that I'll be able to sit back and go super casual with friends if the netcode is up to par.

Yeah, the waiting is the killer part. At least this one looked more organized than NEC.

At NEC, had to wait most of the day to learn I wasn't playing til the following day. That was cool.

I'm surprised that no one got the brackets for Skullgirls up in the OP. They had a very healthy showing with 80+ people.

I wonder what happened to Eraldo...

but they forced me this time i swear.

just got home. was in pool 8. went 1-2 (thought i was going 0-2 yay!), for my first "major" type of tourney.

first match was against a bison. familiar with the matchup thanks to gafbats and a couple of good bipsons in oc. just went after him won 2-0.

got matched up against viscant next. dee jay isnt a good matchup for honda. he won 2-0 but both games went to the last round. i seriously had a good chance to beat him...i was getting in there but he just played solidly.

got a bye, then faced off against chris g. i was watching him play other matches in the pool and he was using either dan or sakura. he waited til i picked honda then counterpicked with guile. he won 2-1; thanks to some good guesses i was able to jump in on his sonic boom to take 1. this was an execution error heavy match for both of us though.

shoutouts to eraldo coil. i heard him being called in the pool next to mine, but couldnt watch any of his matches since i too was waiting.

all in all, a pretty good experience. can't wait to spectate tomorrow.

My pool was slated to start at 4PM but didn't get going until 6ish. Was pretty hungry already by then. After I was eliminated I went right to the Campus Pub for a burger and a beer lol

Does anyone else think SF4 is on its last legs? Yeah the lack of international players didn't help but there didn't seem to be much hype for it today, and with 2012 just out interest would have to be at its peak now wouldn't it?

And let's say SFxT does well and is tournament viable its prime for a top slot at EVO, I assume Capcom will be pushing it as well. Where to for SSF4:AE.2012?

i don't think capcom would care too much if SFxT took over ae in the tournament scene. they want to keep the money flowing in and gamers buying a new fighter would benefit them more. ultimately they would prefer it if all 3 of the games were tournament viable. imo SF4 is only really hype when there is international players.

I don't see SFIV going anywhere. I don't think it's tournament numbers are dropping drastically it's just an old game and marvel is the new hype. They will probably be one and two for awhile.

SF4 isn't going anywhere until the next SF comes out.

Also hype will pick up in top 16. Pools are rarely hype anyway, for Marvel it's a special case because there are always potential blow ups waiting to happen and possible new technology that is never before seen so it's usually fun to watch pools.

Is there any number on how many SSF4/UMVC3 entries there were? I'd really like to know, because honestly I got the opposite impression. I felt like AE 2012 actually sparked SSF4 interest quite a bit compared to AE. Obviously it's been a long time, so naturally UMVC3 has the top spot right now, but I don't think SSF4 will be dying any time soon, at least until SFxT comes out.

I'd be interested to know too.. But surely they must think UMvC3 is going to be more hype since they made the late switch to make it the headline event? Right up till the end the plan was to have AE last, so maybe it didn't go as hoped?

Oh no, what happened to Flocker?

I said a long time before, it's really hard for West Coast players to perform in East Coast tourneys and vice verse, the home territory advantage is real. Not only do you get the support of the home crowd, the characters you are fighting against will be more unfamiliar, also the further you travel the more likely you will be in holiday mode and not be in the right mindset. That's why Flocker, Yipes and Chris G getting eliminated shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

Then also, tourneys are unforgiving and the competition in SCR is very strong, so anyone getting eliminated shouldn't come as a surprise.

Does anyone else think SF4 is on its last legs? Yeah the lack of international players didn't help but there didn't seem to be much hype for it today, and with 2012 just out interest would have to be at its peak now wouldn't it?

The consensus seems to be that it's an awful idea to have a major so close to the release of AE2012, people are yet to be familiar with the changes and they aren't really playing at their 100%. Playing after UMvC3 is a big problem too because like it or not UMvC3 is the hypest game at the moment and any game will seem anti-climatic in comparison. That's why they had no choice but to swap the games around for the finals, which in case you haven't realized happened in Season's Beatings, Devastation and Summer Jam too.

And let's say SFxT does well and is tournament viable its prime for a top slot at EVO, I assume Capcom will be pushing it as well. Where to for SSF4:AE.2012?

If CvS2 can coexist with SF3, SFxT will be able to coexist with AE2012.

The decision to change it likely wasn't a result of the number of entrants, but the reaction of the crowd there, the stream monsters, and overall lower number of viewers.

Damn, gs man. I was spectating front row from the end of umvc3 through most of AE. Heard eraldo get called up, too. He was matched up against Richard Nguyen, adon vs rog. It was a pretty close set, but I think EC lost. EC, if you're reading things, how'd you end up doing?

Yeah, pretty much this. The number of entrants are about equal, but SF4 didn't have any of the 3 you mentioned above. I don't know how everybody else feels, but me personally I don't really get that excited anymore for SF4 in Majors unless top international comp is there. I guess you could say I'm spoiled by EVO and other events earlier this year that pitted our best against the Japanese and other players around the world. And without it, it just seems disappointing, to me at least. Instead of watching the tournament, I decided to accompany my friend to his wife's graduation and hang out for a while later. Just got home now and missed everything, and I can't say I even feel a strong need to look for the archive although I will get around to it at some point.

But SF4 is not going anywhere, being apart of the main SF series alone will keep it alive for a long time. Even if it's not #1 it will still be near the top and have far more players than any game besides Marvel(and maybe SFxT).

Got taken out by some SoCal natives I think. Ones who don't travel often.

He lost very early and very convincingly to Chrisis who lives in NorCal. Then latter on in the losers bracket the 2 of them had a runback and Flocker won, but he later on lost to Wentinel.

Viscant got bodied in the SRK Showmatch by Justin's Iron Fist. Justin basically just made a cycle of snap backs thanks to Iron Fist's Green meter chi so he basically had a huge meter gain advantage over his Viscant. The funny part is that he came up with that on the fly while he was playing him lol. Viscant also doesn't like his play in the game thus far because he believes that now in order to play a Phoenix team you have to be ON POINT with both of your characters... not just play Wesker/Assist. His Doom is pretty ass like he said.

Right now Justin seems prime to take the major but I am liking Tapebot and Mine too just due to the solid play they have shown in the tournament thus far. Although I have seen players like them crack under pressure in higher seeded matches/rounds so who knows. Would be pretty hilarious if one of the only 2 EC reps take it.

I really like Mine's play, I think the grand finals will end up being J Wong vs him. He was extremely underrated in vanilla despite some very good performances in tourneys and despite having a rather weak Phoenix, now that he has dropped Phoenix I think we are going to be able to see what he's capable of doing.

The thing that bothered me most about that match was Viscant just doing raw tag after raw tag after raw tag.

I mean, I get it, y'need to get Phoenix out, but try to mix up when you raw tag a bit. Justin just blocked and punished every time.

(I would've done the same thing, just saying tho :) ).

Oh for sure, they definitely realized that UMVC3 is ahead in popularity by far. Though, my point was that I think SSF4 is still going strong, especially with the release of 2012.

Well that's the reality of playing Phoenix in Ultimate.

Before you could protect your raw tag with a Salty ball. With the massive nerfs to Salty balls this might end up getting Phoenix killed. The other thing to do is to set up a trap like Viscant did that one time but that's nerfed too since then they would just attempt to trade and it doesn't activate if Phoenix gets hit.

These changes are why Phoenix is so heavily nerfed. The meter gain is definitely part of it but the way that Phoenix could avoid snap back and buy time to safely tag made killing her after snap backs extremely difficult. It ended up being a huge resource drain just to kill her.

UMvC3 is definitely not ahead of AE2012 in popularity. It is however a better spectator show and a better game to be a headliner. The matches being shorter also helps a lot since tourneys are always running late and having the long AE matches in the end will make the tourney end later.

I can't see Super headlining a major unless they bring some international players. It's more of a world game than Marvel is.

That was a stroke of brilliance, but made me realize how powerful Iron Fist would be on a Pheonix team! Get a single combo, build 2 bars in one combo!
