PlayStation Vita Japanese Launch Thread. "APOCALYPTIC!" says concerned Nuclear Muffin

The Japanese text is about a little contest/game that they have going on in the PSN Store on Vita where you have to search for raffle tickets, it's just a list of where the raffle tickets are hidden (like one is under PCEngine Archives). It's kind of annoying if you don't know where they are because the last one is super well hidden (actually I still can't find it, so I must have missed something), the prize is only 1000yen too :P

Currently downloading Blaz Blue at what must be slower speeds than my old 14.4k modem, 1:15am and counting and have yet to try a game LOL.

Kind of regretting not buying a film protector for the screen, I bought a case but not film...I somehow forgot how much I would need to be swiping at the screen

Tried the web browser, some sites are recognizing it as a PC browser which is kind of bad (because it's not)

Thanks for actually explaining the text.

Pulled the trigger and got Disgaea 3 Returns instead of what I was also itching to buy UMVC3 (because I already have Marvel vs Capcom on 360 and BlazBlue seems like it will take a long time to wrap my head around).

I've never played a Disgaea game before, apparently I'm in for a long ride? It even says in the caption "The game you can play for 100000 hours" or something

So Minna no Golf, BlazBlue and Disgaea for now and I'm maybe going to call it quits until Lumines comes out.

An even longer ride since you get the DLC chapters on "cartridge" as well. Enjoy Disgaea 3.

I picked up Disgaea 3 for the PS3 which was also my first Disgaea game. I still haven't wrapped my head around it.

What are your impressions of BlazBlue?

It seriously depend... The main story is a 15-20h game with no grinding, and one tenth of the game system truly useful (you don't need item world, reincarnation, class world, pirates, reverse pirating, land of carnage, etc. Even homework is probably skippable, and you won't see half the classes available).

That being done, the "real Disgaea" begins. It's all about maximization and crazy things with characters and weapons. You can finish the game with a level around 50 (?) but the levels go all the way up to 9999, and in fact you'll have to reincarnate your characters back to level 1 several times (you'll aim to accumulate something like 180.000 level ups). You'll also doing level-up for objects and weapons.

Assuming that you find challenge in building a perfect character that can beat the most difficult random-generated maps, then yes, you're in for a long ride (and the good thing is that Disgaea 3 is probably the one where the progression is the easiest, especially with the puppy paw stick that allow item dumping)

So it's a quite short/simple SRPG and and an insanely long character-optimization-game. Pick your poison...

Edit : on PS3, I find it impressive that I saw the ending with only 3 trophies earned, IIRC... There's 50+ of them, and some are quite insane. All this point to the "main story" being only an introduction to a different kind of game.

From 2ch

I'm not much of a 2ch guy but I feel like I'm missing some kind of in-joke here. Is there some reason why he keeps writing 胴 (dō, "chest", with the "body" radical) rather than 銅 (dō, "copper", with the "metal" radical)?

I think that was because they just had no story related trophies if I recall and most of the others just dealt with pirating and reverse pirating which one wouldnt even do until end game, probably why I prefer those trophies over D4's replay the game multiple time for epilogue trophies :/

Oh well D3R Ill probably actually go for the platinum.

We had 3DS results after a few hours :-p

I know! Usually we get battery life figures for handhelds on the first day of release, you'd think that the media would jump at the chance to report on it.

This time, nothing. Not even anyone here wants to help me :( What did I do to deserve this? (other than start that meme!)

Nobody is bitching so it must be reasonable at least.

Pretty sure it's already been confirmed to be on par with the 3DS, so I'm not sure why everyone is asking.

Sony's official figures put it at 3-5 hours on "default" brightness and WiFi/3G off. It won't last that long in real usage (max settings, graphically taxing game) for sure.

Not a soul has commented on the actual real battery life figure.

A friend of mine had WiFi on and was playing for ~5 hours (and turned it off then, because he had to sleep), according to him. Looks like the battery is okay ;P

I'm pretty sure people were saying while fully on the battery life is comparable to most modern electronics, ie terrible

I'm curious how long it lasts in sleep mode though, I've seen people say the 3DS has poor life even in sleep mode.

But it depends on the game he was playing. 3DS we had tests using SSFIV3D using online, highest brightness settings, etc.

Can someone with shinobido 2 tell me more about it? It's the game i'm most interestedbabout. Some pictures would be cool, too.
It was a launch game?? Impressions ASAP

In another thread someone said the first mission has the same setup as the first mission of tenchu.

Sure, it's a lot like the first one for the PSP / PS2. Only with better graphics a solid frame rate and some pretty nifty input options with the advent of the touch screen and dual analogs. It's not gonna be the graphics showcase of the system by any means and if you're not a fan of the genre already then you're not likely to become one from this game but as an addition to the series it's pretty sweet.

Did the same.
Where have you preordered it?

System is preordered at EB - (1st Edition WiFi).
Games are pre-ordered at Best Buy Canada. $24.99 each for Wipeout, Hot Shots and Modnation.

Still don't know if I want Modnation. Maybe if the loading times are better than the console version.

Wait! Wipeout will be a launch title???? :O
No Uncharted? What's wrong with you? ;P

the uncharted games are among my absolute favourites on ps3, but for some reason i'm waaay more stoked for wipeout/modnation/hotshots as well haha. i'm buying those 3 + uncharted at launch though.

I'm not sure if Wipeout will be a launch title. I assume so. Either way, it's only $24.99.

I'll grab Uncharted when I can find a better price for it. Everyone seems to be charging $49.99 for it.

I might grab Ultimate: Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Also, if MLB: The Show comes out I'll probably get that too.

Well, preordering 3 games at 24.99 each on a new platform sounds like a really good deal to me.

Dammit I want one, if only it had come out already ><

wtf! you're right. i just checked bestbuy.ca and it's listed at 50 bucks? i got it for 24.99 during the e3 sale and feel like a boss now. i would be really surprised if they sold it at 49.99.

Yeah, I'm holding out for someone selling it at $24.99.

It sucks that most of these games might not be shipped until the 22nd by the retailer.

yeah how is that going to work? is sony going to release the games at the same time as the first edition bundle? or do us early purchasers have to wait a week for the games to come out?

In the past, a lot of retailers use to put games out on the shelf as they arrived before a system launch. I'm hoping for that with Vita. I don't see Best Buy shipping my games out early though. I bet they ship them for the 22nd.

Any retailer offering the first edition bundle might sell early though.

Edit: Actually, bestbuy.ca is doing the First Edition Bundle. Maybe they will ship early.

Is preordering at Best Buy with in-store pick-up the best option at the moment? Amazon doesn't appear to be offering release date delivery, which is a serious bummer.

Any chance Amazon will change their tune over the next two months?

That's encouraging at least, but still hardly scientific. Why hasn't a proper test been done by anyone yet? Nobody has waited this long for a previous handheld before... (I mean FFS, we've gotten Game Card VS Memory Card speed tests but nothing on battery life?! That should be priority number one!)

can you do that in the states?? lucky. bestbuy.ca never lets you choose in-store pickup for preorders.

do you have a link for the gamecard/memcard speed tests?
