They should really let him hold the title until Wrestlemania or longer and build him up to be credible as champ.

Now, sitting around waiting for Christmas dinner? Watch this damn match;

IWGP INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH;

Masato Tanaka (c) vs Tomoaki Honma - (NJPW 12/23/11)

Despite gaining notoriety in Big Japan for damn near killing himself a hundred times over, and later some tag team success in All Japan, Honma's pretty much been a perennial mid-carder since joining New Japan but still remains a fan favourite, and all the faces of New Japan are out at ringside to support him here as he takes on Masato fucking Tanaka for the Intercontinental Title. Tanaka, when he wasn't destroying himself against Mike Awesome in ECW, is the true ace of ZERO1 wrestling and like Honma is well versed in death match wrestling. Due to his tight connections to Z1, Tanaka is always seen as a heel in New Japan. He captured the IWGP Intercontinental Title from fan-favourite MVP earlier this year and along with Jado & Gedo, The Complete Players, he is an ally of Shinsuke Nakamura's CHAOS faction.

From the moment Honma steps out, the crowd here are super hot. The faces at ringside encouraging Honma on really help give this a big match feel. BTW, I have no idea why Honma's ring gear reads "Vampire Chicken", lol. Tanaka stares Honma down before they get things started, a perfect opportunity to marvel at both guys disgusting and many-times gigged forehead scars. They start off fast and don't once let up the pace, and of course it's not long before they take things to the outside and start getting some hardware involved. The crowd are seriously RABID, super behind Honma as he hits Tanaka with tables and guardrails, Tanaka often managing to get his hands up to protect himself, but smartly selling his elbow afterwards. Tanaka regains control and puts Honma through a table (Tanaka has had a ton of experience in this regard, so he doesn't fear the wrath of the Japanese table) and then busts out the kendo sticks.

They take the action back inside and just start slugging it out, but the ref takes an accidental bump and Tanaka takes the opportunity to try and kill Honma with a broken piece of table and a German suplex, but Honma at this point seems impervious to pain and shows a ton of fighting spirit as he clotheslines Tanaka to the mat and goes for his diving headbutt finisher, but Tanaka moves out of the way and again regains control. He nails Honma with a number of nasty looking elbows before going for the Sliding D finisher, but Honma counters with an awesome looking powerslam. Honma throws Tanaka to the outside and hits a dangerous looking diving headbutt to Tanaka's already injured arm followed by a BIG missile drop-kick. Honma again hits his diving headbutt but only gets a two count, and now the crowd are seriously thinking an upset could happen here, as Honma wraps up Tanaka with an awesome looking pinning combination for another near-fall. He brings Tanaka to his feet and they start exchanging strikes, the crowd screaming for Honma, but this probably isn't the best idea as Tanaka's elbow isn't nearly enough damaged to negate his vicious striking ability, and after a particularly sick blow he puts Honma down to the mat and hits the Sliding D for the win.

That was just an excellently worked match, great back and forth, lots of exciting spots and an awesome crowd who were super into the action throughout. Would definitely like to see a re-match in the future as I'm a big fan of Honma and would love to see him move out of the mid-card more often, which I believe this match more than proves he can do. Happy holidays WrassleGAF! Now I'm off to drink myself silly and watch an old SWS/WWF supershow (Mr Perfect vs Kerry Von Erich? Macho Man vs George Takano? Tenryu & Hogan vs The Road Warriors? Oh my).

I honestly haven't heard a thing about Generico leaving - he signed a new contract back in March when Sinclair bought ROH, so unless it was only for a year I can't see him going.

Also, I've got to laugh at all the supposed pro wrestling 'journalists' shitting over Steen/Corino and acting so surprised that a match like that was allowed to happen in this day and age. Firstly, did they not see Generico/Steen at last year's Final Battle? And secondly, ROH made it abundantly clear with the old Steve Corino making a return that the match would be an all out ECW-style war, full of unprotected chair-shots and "HOLY SHIT!" moments. I certainly wasn't expecting anything else.

...and the #demboys match had WAY more unprotected chairshots than the Steen/Corino affair, IIRC anyway.

I just had the weirdest dream. I was watching a Sin Cara vs Rey Mysterio match on Smackdown and during the final moments of the fight the ref was distracted and Sin Cara put on his gold jacket entrance attire thing and used it to do like an Arkham City cape stun attack.

After Mysterio was stunned Sin Cara Negro came out from inside the jacket and the two Sin Caras did a double team version of that move that starts like an AA, but the attacker does a forward flip and smushes the opponent. After the move was finished Sin Cara Negro hid inside the jacket and Sin Cara pinned the ref while Michael Cole was all "No! Not this way!" and Booker T was all "Whut the heyl?!"

What the fuck? :lol
