My unpopular opinion: blood in wrestling is completely unnecessary. Blading does not heighten any dramatic tension for me. It just grosses me out. I'd rather not see blood. It's a cop out for people who can't sell.
besides, now when we see blood we know it's FOREALZZZZ making it more epic.

Well that's the problem with wrestling when you have someone willing to do an insane spot and they get over with it (hello, Jeff Hardy) - you have to consistently one-up yourself into a realm of danger. Ladder matches were good in their infancy, but they you had to really do some wild shit to get noticed.

To be fair to CZW, they did have a lot going for them other than the 'ultra-violence', as they are wont to call it, and a lot of great matches and feuds took place there. I still love the hell out of Hero & Kingston's war across CZW & IWA:MS (and later ROH), and the annual Best of the Best show usually had a whole load of fantastic wrestling on the cards.

I actually saw a great music video recently that highlights the often-overlooked side of CZW on youtube;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmP1HGlWSgs (skip to 55 seconds in if you don't want to see any gore).

However, while I have enjoyed CZW over the years (both for the excessively violent and less-violent stuff), I really can't put them above ROH. From 2003-2006 ROH were on FIRE. PWG and CHIKARA at the time couldn't come close, as it's only the past 3-4 years those promotions have come into their own imo, while ROH has been on a strange patter of rise and decline.

I read through this thread probably 10-15 times a day, but I don't really ever post anything.

I'd love to get into the GAF Rumble, but I didn't think I should try to get in since I'm not a frequent contributor like Plywood, G-Fex, Keyser, Spindashing, Kraeman, etc.

It doesn't matter if you regularly post or not. Everyone is welcome to enter, I've put your name down.

Let's talk about wrestlers that reasonable human beings love that you personally can't stand. (i.e. no Cener characters) - basically unpopular opinions.

I could never stand Shawn Michaels. Ever. Not as one of the shit-tastic Rockers, not as HBK, not as JBL's bitch, not as anything. He's always been dogshit to me. He was a cocky little shit back in the day, and these days he feels, to me, like a hypocrite and should have retired long ago. And it's all related to his character - his ring work is good. I just don't care, because I hate his stupid ass so much.

UNPOPULAR OPINION. Yours?

This is something Brotista would say. Unleash the inner animal Sunflower.

I can't stand Hollywood Rock. His "Just Bring It" t-shirts. "Team Bring It". "Boots to Asses" my ass. If there ever was a more fitting Chicago crowd chant for the Rock, its "You can't wrestle". How dare you do the Sharp Shooter! It's more like the Poop Shooter. Arm drags look like he releases his opponent midway through the move. It's moves like the People's elbow that started theatrical finishers like "Five Knuckle Shuffle", "The Worm", "Boom Drop", "The Cobra', etc. How dare you bring sports entertainment in my wrasslin. Electrifying .. more like comma inducing. Waving your hand to "Just Bring It". We know what's coming. Punch, Punch, Punch, spit hand, Punch. To the ropes .. Spinebuster. People's Elbow. RockBottom. You disgust me.

I think blood can have its place but should only used very sparingly. The less it's used the more it means. For example if some heel attacked Cena and left him in a bloody mess on the next Raw it would be a pretty big deal since we haven't properly seen blood in a quite a while. If they kept doing it though it soon wouldn't get much of a reaction.

I watch wrestling for the story lines..
I have even fast forwarded matches to get to more storyline.

I also like it when it makes me laugh.

Do I still like the actual wrestling part? Sure, absolutely. But without the story/characters I wouldn't watch at all.

I agree with this. The attitude era ruined wrestling. They pushed things so far that it could never be topped. But the biggest issue is that it changed the model of wrestling programming. Everything went from promoting PPVs to focusing on ratings and they've never gotten away from that even though there isn't competition anymore. It used to be that the TV shows were essentially infomercials for the PPVs. Now the PPVs hardly mean anything because they give everything away on TV. Which is why I got so into ROH's TV show because their style of broadcasting was very similar to the way wrestling was pre-Attitude Era. Then again, I thought Final Battle was garbage so all that anticipating didn't really pay off so I don't know what to think anymore.

You're right everything went right to the extreme and Vince wanted to ride it out and well...afterward he didn't know where to go with it.

I agree with you Kev, yeah I do. I don't really like blood and the idea of blading irks me so bad I hate looking at Ric Flair's forehead.

It's really not needed, I don't think it was needed in WCW or early 90's WWF and it was just fine. And I fucking kinda hate the thumbtack thing too, and don't get me started on CZW's stupid light fixtures.

My unpopular opinion is WWE should bring kayfabe back and ditch the reality TV style they have at the moment.
reality tv is what's going on at NXT. Have you seen that shit recently?

my brother is the same way. He used to be hardcore back in the days, but now he only enjoys watching the promos and whatnot, he groans when matches start unless they are hugely gimmicky. He doesn't like the pure wrestling at all.

The idea of blood in wrestling doesn't disgust me, but I am against blading. If it's hardway, then it goes some way to heightening the drama of the moment and emphasising the brutality of an attack. When the New Nexus was attacking Orton, for example, and he got free just long enough to give Punk a bloody nose. That was awesome.

Yup. This is why I love the WWE so much. AS shitty as some of their stories are a large part of the reason that I watch are the stories. It's a shame there are rarely any decent mid-card feuds. I mean, the only focus gets put on the main eventers ;<

A friend with real userpic made comment few week back...now I no why, i say a small tag team called the rasslegaf's did hay shake my handno! Yes I said SMALL!!

I can agree with this, often times when going through a recorded Raw I just speed through half the matches, they save the good wrestling for PPV's most of the time. As far as PPV goes that's when I much prefer the stories to take a backseat to the matches, while this is usually the case modern day WWE has crappy plots with lackluster build ups that tend to make PPV events come across as less important.

Max respect. I can't stand the rocks current gimmick. What irks me is the ill never leave shit. Why even say that when you know you couldn't keep that promise

Seeing as you're always finding something to jibe me about, here's the banner for next month's thread ahead of time:

And I'm thinking January Wrasslin |OT| Every Man For Himself

Yes, Orton is in there, and will remain there until I hear the news that he's died.

LOL, I love HHH at the bottom there - always ready to jump out and bury and unsuspecting superstars.

Can you put this somewhere in the OP;

Because, really, we all know it's going to be the best PPV of January :p

It's beautiful Sam, but expect someone to drive-by complain about it not having any TNA/RoH/Chikara/NJPW/PWG/CZW/etc in it.

This is a thinly veiled jab at the people who drive-by complain about the quality of the thread and rarely participate.

edit: Is that Tajiri? ^^^

WWE.com has updated saying Orton will only be out a few weeks. His Rumble win is still safe!!

BANNER SUCKS

no Ricardo no Kaitlyn no FCW no TNA

what a nerd

ROH never recovered from Randy The Ram dying in the ring.

Lol, thatsracist.gif

Going clockwise the poster has Hiroshi Tanahashi, Prince Devitt, Shinsuke Nakamura, Togi Makabe, Hirooki Goto and Tetsuya Naito.
Whoops, the guy next to the W in Wrestle Kingdom reminded me of him.

From what I've seen of Prince Devitt from what you've posted, he's great, I think I'll be looking forward to this.

They all look like Tajiri!

Haha, but in all seriousness, the last page made me realize that I really loved vignettes. The WWE always managed to hype people up using them, and did them perfectly.

My two favorite vignettes for a debuting superstar had to be Tazz (I guess you NWA guys should know that by now) and Sean O'Haire. Both guys had awesome little videos showing their character. It's a shame they didn't do too much with Sean O'Haire.

I also liked the Hade Vansen promo, but too bad Hade Vansen pulled a Broadus Clay and never debuted.

Bootaaay do you have the card for Wrassle Kingdom?

Yep, sure;

Ah, yeah I guess Goto does look slightly Tajiri-ish, It's probably the beard. This is Tajiri in 2011;

And yeah, Devitt is awesome. Should be a fantastic opening match, I'm expecting Devitt & Taguchi to win back the tag straps.

He looks great. I loved his run in the E' and his long feud with Mysterio. Good times.
Dis gun be good.
It's gonna be more than good it's gonna be great.

Also I though Sheldon Majiben was dead in the ring at ROH, but here he is wrasslin with MVP.

Shelton Benjamin did an interview where he basically said he's got an open door to go back to WWE whenever he wants, but he went to Ring of Honor as a favor to Charlie Haas and Jim Cornette.

legit "pure" wrestling question

Was there ever a AAA vs. New Japan/IWGP show in the last 15 years?

The difference in wrestling styles would be something out of curtain jerker match on WCW Nitro which means it would be awesome!
