I think most people just assumed that it was meant to reflect how empty Mami's life had become by that point . . . but then, Shaft. Lol.

I guess assigning artistic intent to SHAFT is a dangerous game. It would certainly make more sense that way, because the 'sterile apartment' is a pretty classic way to inform us about the character. Consider Rei's room in Evangelion or the major's in Ghost in the Shell.

Which Ep11 did you watch? The original TV one or the new uncut airing?

The uncut one, I wasn't even aware it was cut until you mention it.

I can't believe they would cut something this awesome.

Fate Zero 12-13

Meh cliffhanger....

By the way, whoever wrote the conversation between caster and his master in the beginning of the episode 13(about god) is truly insane. =/ Almost convinced me to join or start a cult.

Or when Idolmaster had the boring girl walk into her empty apartment at the very end of episode 4 and people called it an amazing character development episode because of that.

I think it's worth nothing how lazy the background art was in the original airing. I mean, it's not like it looks great in the BD, but there wasn't anything in that room when it originally aired. Considering how important background art is in establishing a space and telling you about a character (indirectly) that's a pretty bad sign. Compare and contrast with the main household in Penguin Drum.
Did you read what I said about it?
I think most people just assumed that it was meant to reflect how empty Mami's life had become by that point . . . but then, Shaft. Lol.
This! Exactly this! Sometimes the absence of a personalized living space tells you just as much as a personalized living space. Before I had attributed her living space as reflecting her personality and where she was at that point mentally, now that insight into her character has been retconned as nothing more than pure laziness or lack of time. That's kind of insulting. To me it implies that now I can't take anything on screen as what it is, no longer can I attribute anything to a character as it might not be because of the character but out of lack of time, to me that makes investing in a character or story even less attractive as now as opposed to taking in the whole work and forming my own opinions I'm even further reduced, I say further because in fiction we don't get every minute of a person's life on screen just the moments the story teller wants you to get, in my capacity as a viewer to take in information and clues. Now even the clues may not be clues just shit that will be fixed in a later release. How fucking stupid.

It's bad enough that as a viewer, and even a person in real life, I need to take a healthy amount of skepticism to what a person says and does but now I must also question the actual environment they're in?

While this is an off-topic question I figure frequenters of this thread will know an answer to this question:

Are there any more Blu-Rays on the way of mainstream anime? I'm loving Yu Yu Hakusho and Samurai Champloo.

There was no way it would fit into the normal broadcast time slot of an episode. They didn't want to make the Grail dialogue two episodes either, so the solution was to make an extra length episode, and edit it down in the initial broadcast.

Fate Zero 12-13

Meh cliffhanger....

Yeah the cliffhanger is pretty bad. It wasn't even a "omg what will happen next?!" sort of cliffhanger. More like "haha suckers, wait a few months for us to actually animate the next action sequence lulz." :/

I'm pretty sure Urobuchi is pretty insane. After all he's one of the main writers at Nitroplus. :P

We'd have to know what the heck a mainstream anime is first. I'm guessing it would mean something similar to Bleach, Naruto or something else that aired on cable? I would have to say not really as that ship's mostly sailed and most shows that would get a BR have already done so.

I guess Full Metal Alchemist got it's Blurays, well Brotherhood did at least, the movie got a Bluray, Cowboy Bebop's movie got one, Eureka 7s movie got one, the Bleach movies are starting to get them, Dragon Ball Z's getting them, Escaflowne's movie got one, Ghost in the Shell's story arcs have got them along with its movies, that's kind of about it for what I'd call mainstream.

Why are people rotating their avatars again? It's so goddamn hard to tell who's who when they doing that.

Aika R-16: Virgin Mission 3

Well, that wraps it up for the first prequel. They cheesed out on the plot at the end. It was not nearly as satisfying as the ending of the first arc of the original series. It seemed like they really had something awesome going, and then...they just stopped. Sigh. I guess that was all the budget they had.

Well, the short 3-OVA series Aika R-16 pretty much delivered what fans of the original series were expecting. There were pantsu. Aika kicked lots of asses while showing her pantsu. There were also boobs. And pantsu. Lots and lots of pantsu.

Up next is Aika Zero. I'm betting there will be pantsu in it. I believe Aika Zero, made in 2009, will be in HD, unlike R-16. One can only hope. I'm looking forward to saying that after Aika Zero, I will have seen pantsu in HD.

I wonder if I'll ever be able to talk about the Aika animes in real life with real human beings. I suspect, most likely never. Not unless I wanted to get myself arrested. This is what Animu-GAF is for, I guess.

Somebody got NasuWorded. I mean...wait, Fate/Zero wasn't Nasu, was it?

I'm pretty sure Urobuchi is pretty insane. After all he's one of the main writers at Nitroplus. :P

This explains Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate, I suppose.

Yeah, I guess I phrased that pretty poorly. The series that you mentioned I don't have an interest in (except Bebop... that needs Blu-Ray asap).

Basically I'm just curious if companies have a consistent release schedule for Blu-Rays on their horizon. I can't be the only one that thinks selection is limited.

I just realized that between Nisemonogatari this season and Medaka Box the next, that's two straight seasons of NisiOisiN adaptations. Wonderful!

There's not really a consistent release schedule or anything. If anything Funimation has done the best job at going back in their back catalog and doing Blurays for those shows but they're really the only company making such a push and even then they're really missing most of their older, more critically acclaimed titles and their big push is aimed more at newer releases.

One thing to keep in mind about anime Blurays, well Blurays in general really, is sometimes the Bluray can be worse than the DVD, and this seems to be made more apparent to anime fans as for us it's not just whether or not our local distributor is willing to spend the money to do a Bluray release but also what materials the Japanese licenser is willing to give them to do a release or if they had done one themselves already. So unfortunately, with a lot of Funimation's first Bluray titles they were done as nothing but upscales as that was essentially all they could do. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing but my PC can upscale if I want it and I find it unnecessary to pay someone else to do that but that's hardly unique to the anime industry as a lot of the movies you can see at Wal-Mart or Best Buy are quick upscales too, it's not like a company truly does a painstakingly thorough restore job before putting every little title on BD sadly. They're in it to make money not to preserve their artwork. :( And really, just as we have the problem here in the west in Japan the same thing's going on, there's lots of Japanese Bluray releases that look like total ass. So considering sometimes our companies have to wait for a shitty Japanese release before they can even do their shitty release or do a shit upscale release of their own it's kind of a bleak area right now.

Agent AIka - 4

The Hagen arc is over and it was soooo great.

But destroying the earth to create a harem of pretty and busty women. That's the dream of a man!

No, she's a waifu too. Even the lesbian love thing
is more of an attachment to an older student who was kind to her.
I mean, she pretty much
offers herself to Ararararararagi
later on in the show.

I don't remember that. She was pretty excited by
loli snake stripping for that ign joke
.

Nope, don't remember this at all. Maybe I should rewatch watch it for the very first time!
SecondFirst time for everything!
Did you see the ipod episode? It was already that.
To be honest, I've stricken most of the episodes from my memory. Probably the only "Nu-turama" episode I remember is the season finale of the last one with the time machine.

Also, what the fuck happened in here with the wrong, wrong rankings.
(Except for Dresden, who is a bro)

I just made a big ass list but i accidentally closed the tab on my phone.
Will post the bluray anime when i get home.

While visiting CR to continue watching Yuru Yuri, I noticed their drama section. Does AnimeGAF watch Korean/Japanese drama?? Anything you guys recommend?

Both Mio's scaredy-cat shtick and the teacher's antics are becoming rather tiresome. Fortunately we have this to make up for them:

Isn't sisterly love so heartwarming?
All I have to say is... Uuuuuiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii . HNNGGGGH
Yes, and when you have female friends, they'll shove their breasts in your face all the time and get naked in front of you.

I don't know why more guys don't try this. It's true! I saw it in anime!
So when I try this and fall flat on my face and my sodium levels rise, can I hold you responsible?
Snail girl is worst girl clearly.
I just realized that between Nisemonogatari this season and Medaka Box the next, that's two straight seasons of NisiOisiN adaptations. Wonderful!
The new avatar is cool , what a shame it doesn't reflect her in Nise.

Sadly, the original series episode 1-4 is the high watermark for the franchise. Episodes 5-7 lack Hargen and his tentacle-pantsu psycho imouto and so the spark just isn't there anymore.

Aika R-16 was somewhat disappointing for a number of reasons. I don't want to comment too much on R-16 and Zero until I've watched them both though. However I will say that seeing moe Young Aika after seeing adult Original Aika was considerably more disconcerting than I would have imagined.

*grabs chest* thanks....for the moe~ *collapses*

*salutes* I'll never forget you. :-P

Steins;Gate 16

My jaw is on the floor. So many mindblowing revelations in one episode that I can't even fathom that the first few episodes were slow anymore. Also depressing as fuck for
Amane
:(

Yeah...They were pretty damn relentless in
the handling of her outcome. ;_; I failed. I failed. I failed. I failed. I failed. I failed. I failed.

;_; I remember tearing up so hard at this episode. >>

Never argue about moe. MOE JUST IS. That is all that need be said.

*thumbs up* Moe is as moe does.

I just discovered Sengoku Collection. This and Odanobuna will be an interesting wait :lol

In the game itself, based on images I've seen before this announcement, each character had a male and a female version. It seems like they're just using the female designs for the anime though...

For comparison, the two designs from Sengoku Collection itself:

Male Oda Nobunaga

Female Oda Nobunaga (who seems to be the only one included in the anime)

Also, there are variations/powered up forms:

You should watch the other OVAs from the 90s from Studio Fantasia.

801 T.T.S. Airbats for example is pretty awesome and :pdot:

Ok, let's stop this game of eye cancer please.

Some could say the same about the "moe".

Spice & Wolf - Episode 1 (revisited)

I noticed Funimation has the complete series up for viewing again so I decided to re-watch the first episode. A very pleasant show. I had forgotten how much Lawrence actually facepalms in this series.

Well, he was about 1000x smarter than the average anime male.

Best-selling cars worldwide.
1. Toyota Corolla (1.02m)

Not offered in Europe anymore (replaced by Auris), but the best seller everywhere else.

2. Hyundai Elantra (1.01m)

The car was designed by Thomas Bürkle, who used to work for BMW. His design seems to be really popular.

3. Wulin Sunshine (0.943m)

A very cheap car offered in China.

4. Ford Focus (0.919m)

No need to explain.

5. Kia Rio (0.815m)

Kia is one of winners, the sales are continiously rising.

6. Ford Fiesta (0.781m)

Now also offered in the USA, always been very popular in Europe.

7. VW Jetta (0.745m)

Really surprising to me as a German that it outsells the Golf... there are millions of Golfs on the road here but noone buys Jettas. Not so in oversea markets.

8. Toyota Camry (0.726m)

Toyota stopped selling this in Europe many years ago due to bad numbers, but in the US it's very popular.

9. Chevrolet Cruze (0.691m)

Chevrolet, formerly known as Daewoo in Europe (it's still sold as Daewoo Lacetti in South Korea).

10. VW Golf (0.648m)

Best selling car in Europe for many years, but not so hot in the rest of the world.
Anime overtaking the motor vehicle world confirmed.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica 4

This show is like, actually good and stuff.

Whoever described it as a sort of deconstruction of the magical girl genre was totally right.

A few months back, someone showed me the first episode of Tatami Galaxy. It seemed interesting and unusual, but when it went "YOU SHOULD DO THIS THING" and then the protagonist didn't do that thing for no particular reason, I bailed. Evangelion was painful enough to watch once.

Of course, now we're in barren Winter Season 2012, and there's nothing really to watch, so I decided to make a super-awesome season of stuff in my backlog (Usagi Drop to start every week!). And that brought me back to Tatami Galaxy...

Tatami Galaxy 02

Huh. Well.

Now I'm interested. This show has a lot more going on than I initially expected. I really want to see where it leads.

Can't wait until episode 3 next week!

I figured now would be a good time to catch up on Bakemonogatari as well (so I can see if Nise is worth it), but I could also use a few other recommendations to fill out the week. I've been out of the loop for a while, and even when I was in the loop, I wasn't really in it, so I'm sure there's a lot I missed. I'm sure if I just limit it to 2009 onwards, I'll have more than enough good shows.
