WOW, I've also heard of some people actually bitching about games that xelios gifted to them, as in: "gee, I didn't want X, you should have gifted me Y" or something close to that. Too bad even GAF isn't clear of those people.

And damn you Steam! that stupid update would've been useful a week ago when I had to re-download Skyrim 3 times because twice you thought I wanted the Spanish version. So silly.

Some assholes kick him out of a Group because he wasn't gifting them anything. Or at least I believe that is the short version.

MRORANGE, how would one go about retrieving chatlogs from Steam?

Sounds like a bad couple months for him. Seem to recall a post late last year where he was upset that someone was angry he gifted them something.

I always try to not make a big deal out of gifting, the more people that hear about it the more people to try and take advantage of you </3

Sorry to hear what happened to you, it's a disgrace. Supposed to be fun and games, not shoving each other under the bus for deals.

There's no way right now to get chat logs unless you do it manually as they occur, sadly.

That reminds me of the time we trolled one of our friends by buying him DLC and Expansions to a bunch of games he didn't own on Steam. I did it by mistake, but then like 6 other people did it. One I remember a friend gave him was the Fable 3 Dog outfits.

The Steamgift group was a scam. If you look at some the users and mods in it... they've basically done Half Lifes, Portals, Humble Indie bundles. While under the farce that it was for "generous" donors, when really all they did was invite generous donors and force group only giveaways.

From what I recall, they were hating on him for including Gaffers since it reduced their own odds.

One guy, just yesterday, asked me to buy him a $20 game and said he'd pay me back in the future. When I said that I had already gifted, they - and this is when I would have blown the fuck up at them if I were a lesser man - actually brought up that I had given away $14. As if an extra $20 were nothing to me. I refer you to points A, B, and C.

I'm sorry dude, but I just really needed that game. It's an addiction.

What jerks.

I wanna know how these people operate in the real world. How do you go through life like that?

I don't understand it either man. I had 3 games gifted to me and gifted back 1 of those games back to the same person. After the 2 gifts I felt too guilty to even play GAF bingo because I would rather see someone else get lucky and win a game.

Going around to people taking their time to help others out and begging for shit just seems so sad.

You'd go to jail for murdering them. You have to make it look like an accident.

That is amazing.

It's actually quite stunning, really, how these types of people get by (and get by WELL) in this world.
As bad as they sound, I wouldn't want to jump to conclusions here. If only for the fact that it happened online. Not trying to defend the guys, but it is what it is. People are assholes, especially when it's as easy to get away with as it is online.

So. I'm sorry for coming into this thread and ranting, but I honestly just needed to let all of this out.

Like I said, I'm polite as frick on Steam.

Dude.

I worked for Countrywide.

Countrywide.

I knew some very, very, very, very bad people who for some reason kept getting promoted.

That being said, you're right.

It's just really crappy.

Personally I only gift during the sales to people whose usernames I generally know from this thread, not the hordes of randoms that pop in to the mega sales threads. Bitching out users who are generally pretty generous with simply helping others out from different regions get even better deals is pretty lame, I mean it strikes me as such a pain in the ass to do so that I generally won't do that unless I'm simply gifting the individual a game. Harping about someone's generosity is beyond low. Stuff like that just sours me on the experience.

And then prepare to do it all again when Steam resets everything back to no category for no apparent reason at some future date.

You can make a backup of your categories, the files are located in

Steam\userdata\<ID>\7

I made a .bat file which copies them to another directory so I just click it every now and again :P

I've... never had that happen to me either. Do the people that have this happen access their steam account from multiple locations?

I wish Steam would wipe my cat, I did a horrible job and its been months...nothing ever happens to me.

Hm, the dir also seems to contain your server browser history, so... maybe just kill sharedconfig.vdf. This file seems to contain your library with last played and category tags if applicable.

So you were on the list that was strictly for helping others out with regional pricing and people misunderstood that and outright begged for free games? Wow.

that's crazy, I must have gotten lucky because I was on that list too and never got hit up by anyone wanting completely free games

though I did have the requirement of send paypal first listed so maybe that helped

For real? That is frikkin' outrageous.

Space Marine is pretty short; at least the single player is. I am already on chapter 11 (of 16?) and my timer says 4 hours. Hopefully there is some fun to be had in MP.
