Well, it's hard to say if that is true. While there are other females in the world of Chihayafuru we don't see them often, as Chihaya herself is often surrounded by men. They haven't really established a baseline for 'what people look like in this world', apart from that one girl that likes Arata.
In spite of my better judgment, I do enjoy the show. I can't wait to see the one time where the animation isn't just panning & zooming across tits and ass, though!
Maybe my perspective is warped from watching the Nisemonogatari trailer and Queen's Blade Eye of Boobs and Arse ep.1, but I don't remember that much tna in Bakemonogatari outside of the snake arc and the Hanekawa arc.
It was Yoiko-level disturbing seeing Nadeko writhe around like that, but somehow I powered past that. I feel like I left whatever remained of my innocence behind though.

Nah, Chihaya is clearly established as remarkably pretty both by her design (compare to Kanade) and by her reputation, commented on by bystanders several times, of being attractive as long as she doesn't do or say anything.

AHAHAHAHAHAH...OH WOW. They actually threw in a little bit of random stuff during this final episode to connect it to the original series.
Young Bishie Mad Scientisto and his Young Psycho Imouto make cameos throughout this episode and appear at the end, and Aika demonstrates the first signs of the Ultranate symbiosis she has in the original series.
I had been wondering where the
Ultranate
was this whole time, they retconned it in R-16 and Zero where instead of being
a metallic compound being researched for creating tentacle-monster super-soldiers
, it's now a
symbiotic alien organism which crash-landed on the Earth some time before the events of the 3 Aika animes.
Oh, and the tentacles glow now.
Yeah, I don't know why I'm discussing the story in something like this. Anyways, that's all for Young Aika. I wonder if Studio Fantasia intends to revisit this franchise again. I would like a proper sequel to the original series, even if they keep Aika's new appearance in it. I want Gusto and Rion and Meipia and Bandra back. They can even keep the retcons and insert the new cast members, Eri was considerably less annoying in Zero and Karen is harmless. Just give us a serious attempt at a real story, instead of the lame excuse for a story that R-16 had.
Oh, right, and I suppose since this franchise requires it, there probably have to be pantsu. Lots and lots of pantsu. In HD. And boobs. Also in HD.
Final ratings:
Agent Aika (1997) - 11 pantsu out of 10
Aika R16: Virgin Mission (2007) - 5 pantsu out of 10
Aika Zero (2009) - 8 pantsu out of 10
I think the easiest way to notice it is to watch the first episode and immediately watch say episode 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, the difference in what is very effectively established visually in that episode and what is filtered down into the rest of the show was something that bugged me. Basically it feels as though every episode that followed it is "imitating" and not executing on the same level. Something that is relatively common in anime (good first episode which all the main staff works on and the subsequent drop off in overall quality, not every episode is going to be good after all) but because Shaft anime have a relatively gimmicky overall style to them it ends up being more obvious when something is phoned in or particularly lazy. It also didn't help in the least that episode 3-5 were especially tedious in terms of content and dialogue.

I'm far too lazy to screen cap all of them (and gif the second one).
My point is fairly obvious. The reaction you should have is along the same lines as reaction Araragi has. SHAFT even takes the trouble of walking you through the steps, the least you could do is acknowledge their hand holding.
That's how. Although it's certainly true that, on the whole, Denpa looks better than Bakemonogatari and has better animation. Presumably by the time they got around to it they had a bit more money to spend.

True story, not all girls like feminine pretty boys. While it's a pretty common aesthetic in Japan (and through osmosis, the rest of East Asia), it's less prevalent in the west.
In anime, guys are either pretty boys or manly men, the former group is directed at girls, the latter group is directed at boys. There's really no demographic for the "pretty yet manly" man, such as Christian Bale or Johnny Depp.
(Although to be fair, I hear Depp is pretty popular in Japan)
Also, my problem with obsessing animation is that when it comes to my entertainment I'm not really concerned about the process, I'm concerned about how all the pieces fit together. Great animation or great dialogue isn't really memorable per se, great moments are memorable by association to a collection of parts that compose an excellent scene.
I guess a more exact way of putting it is that I never examine the part before first examining the whole. This is why what I may consider to be a gross deficiency in one work may end up being simply an easily overlooked minor error in another different work.

I, for my part, am actually very interested in the process, because I like traditional animation (I think Flash animated stuff is abominable and computer rigged models are cheap). I've animated some simple stuff by myself for classes so I can appreciate how much effort and creativity these guys put into their stuff.
I would've went into animation if I wasn't scared of not being able to land a job.
Ben-to 01: those were honestly the most derivative first twenty minutes of animu I've watched since Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko. Then the last two minutes happened.
Holy fuck.
Slam Dunk 72: so far it's a retread of the previous Ryonan game. Eh.
