Down. Grade.
That's a change?
More of a dominatrix, going by the CMs.
Fucking magic pixels.
It's just GGPO lag.

Wait. Why am I thinking that it's not actually cut? Wasn't it shown that it's still in a ponytail somewhere here recently?

Would be true if they didn't butcher the other waifus as well (except Kanbaru).

Yeah it's just a bad shot:

Senjou will look decent in the end and the snakeloli can just . . . wear a hat, but what they did to Hanekawa is criminal.

e: oh, Senjyogahara.

It's good that you just have these lying around, now everyone can know what's going on in the all important field of harem hairstyles.
Thank god there's still a ponytail.
Truly, there is nothing more important than waifu hairstyles.
Thank god there's still a ponytail.
My man.

Working'!! 13
That wasn't a bad last episode. It kinda felt like a season finale, in some vague attempt. At least, they didn't try and make it all about Inami and instead focused on Polar.
I liked the focus Matsumoto gotten, which I guess is some sort of tradition if Working gets a third season. The sudden appearance of Yamada|Male was good and Yamada still had her moments in the episode.

Not a bad season, I had some laughs and I won't hate a third season.

Yama-dash!

Welp, at least they got the only two waifus that matter right.

Don't pretend like you're not preparing notes for a comparative essay on harem hairstyles in Nisemonogatari right now.

From what I understand (actual spoilers for Nisemonogatari) :
I wont need to write those because it's an actual plot point in the show. Really.

"On Haircuts and Character Development in a Visual Storytelling Medium"

Also, Erigu: I am a sad now.

"On Haircuts and Character Development in a Visual Storytelling Medium"
I would, but, there have already been essays about that. We ('we') all know that, in lots of stories when a women cuts of her hair it's deeply symbolic. It might be about the loss of a loved one, a rejection of femininity, or some other important event. 'Serious business' haircuts are frankly rather common.

[Nastume S4 Episode 1 - Revisited]

That's right, I decided to watch this episode again, except this time I opened my eyes a bit wider and paid a lot more attention the presentation and the direction. Right off the bat it's pretty clear that the production team is trying extremely hard to move away from the 'Studio Deen/SHAFT' quality of the last season. It's pretty clear that they know how bad the last season looked and they invested quite a bit of time making this opening episode punchy.

First things first: the new OP. While it does feature the classic 'Natsume encounters monsters that no one else can see' theme they mix it up by featuring 'lil Natsume as the hero. Which, of course, is just an excuse to create this adorable scene that never actually happened:

Next up we get a long-shot of Natsume and his friends walking down the road.

It doesn't look like much until you realise that they're using layers of background art to give depth to the frame. The sky, mountains and foreground characters are all moving at different speeds. It's a subtle effect, but it actually draws you into the picture and creates the illusion of depth. Just in case you didn't notice how many background layers are at play they add a car driving through the middle layer to draw your eye to the background. It's very well done.

The next thing I noticed was how much 'unnecessary' movement there was in the episode. By that I mean animation that didn't need to be there, but which added to the overall quality of the world.

For example, the designs of these guys means that their fur moves whenever they move, which means more work for the animators. Natsume's scarf and bad were also moving realistically and, more impressively, his hair was moving in nearly every single scene. It wasn't static the entire episode, which is pretty neat. They even added in a tiny frog to the scene of Nyanko and the Horse Demon talking. The frog does nothing but jump around, it has no story relevance, neither is it symbolic. They just added another object that needed to be animated to show that they could.

Hell yes, Nyanko-Sensei got lots of fun sections of animation all to himself. I guess there's lots of things you can tweak and stretch on him to great effect.

If this wasn't enough for you they increased the man-service level by giving Natsume a totally gratuitous bath-scene:

All in all, a pretty great opening to the season.

Yep. I thought you knew, since that's also how it goes in the novel series.
(although I'm a bit puzzled at Kaiki's character design... that one seems contradictory... unless there's an upcoming twist in there somewhere)

I'd love to read more of the novel, but the Baka-tsuki translators prefer to work on shit like Hidan no Aria and Infinite Stratos.

EusthEnoptEron is the only one that picks up interesting stuff like Tabi no Deyou, Gekkou, Zero no Maria (Amazing novel, best among the selection available on the site) and it seems like the Bakemono translators are on break or something. Bleh.

If the voice acting has the same Oliver Twist cockney accents as in the game, then I'd rather shoot myself.

That seems a bit drastic. Just because it's the greatest voice acting ever doesn't mean you should off yourself out of despair of knowing nothing else will be as good, gahvnah.
