Our field is a piece of shit and that includes the grass

So how will that change anything?
Wont that make your team play worse as well?
Like i said, this offense isnt just about speed and finesse. They have hard hitting rbs and tough wide receivers who can play gritty football if required. The main key is to eliminate turnovers.

turf teams have historically down worse playing away on grass, and SF's field is probably the slowest grass field there is, perhaps second only to Pitt's.

To ask "how will that change anything" is a very silly question.

Yes. Paul Horning in 61, Jim Taylor in 62. Terrell Davis and Brady too, right?...wait, not Brady.

typical Packers fan, pretends not to know the difference between a super bowl and an nfl championship...

Who won the MVP the year Manning won the Super Bowl?

I can't remember when it was in the last couple weeks, but some broadcast showed the stats of the Saints at home versus on the road, and it's like two totally different offenses, stat-wise. Point total was like 40-13 at home to 23-21 on the road, average yardage was like 200 yards less, etc.

The Saints are one of the most blatant Dome-reliant teams in the last decade, likely since the Rams at the end of the 90's/early 2000's.

It's amazing to think how important and game changing an explosive running back could be just four years ago...

Remember fucking Priest Holmes? Seems like eons ago.

Holy shit I was thinking about the same running back. Remember Shaun Alexander? Man running back in the NFL is no joke.

It's even worse when you look at the defenses they have played. Packers, Carolina, Tampa Bay, Atlanta are four of the shitty teams they have played outdoors and they still have that huge point discrepancy.

I love the 49ers chances. I'd way rather play the Saints.

I said it before the playoffs started ad I stick to it, I think the best game of the whole thing will be Saints @ Niners. I really believe the Niners will surprise everyone and pull out a W.

The Saints have had issues against 3-4 teams that get after the passer. The year they won the SB they had a very hard time against the Jets and ended up losing their first game against the Cowboys in a game that featured complete domination by DeMarcus Ware. The Saints won't be able to run like they did against the Lions and Brees won't be able to sit around all day. I can't wait to see the Niners come out in 2 TE sets with Walker and Davis and just manhandle the Saints D. I fucking cannot wait for this game, it will be a chess match of epic proportions.

Atlanta plays in a dome dog, or am I missing something?

I know this might be pretty shocking news, but a team doesnt have to score 40 points to win every game.

I'm of the opinion that we'll see the resurgence of the running back in a few years. The natural counter for these quick clock stopping passing offenses is a slow ball control ground game. Problem is you need a flock of mature quarterbacks to go with it and none of the current ones run that type of offense right now.

That Super Bowl Rams team was still great on the road http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_St._Louis_Rams_season

I may be mistaken, but I believe they played every game but one on turf that year (49ers road game).

sorry, two maybe, road game at Carolina.

it's like you weren't even paying attention to the point of this conversation?

Just me wanting to rip on Atlanta!

Absolutely. You'll also see defenses get smaller to be quicker both in coverage and on the line to get to the quarterback.

Alexander was a fucking fraud. Poster boy for an RB that looked great based solely on his blocking. Many of his long runs had him completely untouched. He had future hall of famers Walter Jones and Steve Hutchinson paving the way in gold for him, and his FB was a perennial pro bowler (Mack Strong?).

I guess the same does apply to Priest and LJ tho.

Don't forget the link between Holmes and Larry Johnson being FB Trent Richardson.

LT also had FB Lorenzo Neal, as soon as he was gone, LT's numbers fell drastically.

On about a two-three year stretch, it was Larry Johnson, Shaun Alexander, Tiki Barber, and LaDainian Tomlinson running wild on everybody. I know for certain Johnson, Alexander, and Barber each got around 1500 yards each year. It was an exciting time...

Oh yes, Mack Strong. Tiki had Jim fuckin' Finn!

Will we ever see bigger corners? It seems like if you are big, and can catch the ball a little you are a WR. I wonder what the defenses will do to adapt to the rule changes. It still seems like they haven't adapted yet.

But the saints might have to. Your defense is one of the worst in the league. Niners arent explosive but we can put up points. We have scored tds on 7 out of our last 8 redzone possessions.

You will. It'll take time to get to the defense, but you'll start to see taller corners.

That said, it's more difficult for a tall corner to maintain the hip control necessary to stay square on receivers.

Look im giving your team credit for going 13-3. A shitty team doesnt do that. But our team did still win games on grass away from home. The games were closer, but they pulled it out.
If anything im more worried about our defense playing slow than our offense.

I think the biggest assist playing in Candlestick will give us is slowing down the incessant dink and dunk pass game the Saints love so much. The little dumps to Sproles will be slowed, coupled with Bowman on him (who is damn fast, as evidenced in the Eagles game when he matched against McCoy/Vick) is a very key matchup.

That game was set up perfectly for the Broncos to win yesterday

The Patriots are going to take a giant dump on the Broncos on Saturday.

Hilarious thing, if the Patriots do indeed win the Broncos will be 9-9 so that means they'll still not have beaten a winning team all year. And they'll be in the AFC Championship game. :jnc AFC :jnc

There were Tebow jerseys everywhere I went last night. I saw probably 20+ people wearing them, which is bullshit considering I've easily seen less than 5 Bronco apparel wearing fans in the last decade.

Fuck Tebow, and the miraculous circumstances that lead to his bullshit wins.

That is a crazy stat.

More importantly, Brian Waters and Willie Roaf.

I can't believe that we at one point had Roaf, Jones, Orlando Pace, and Jonathan Ogden all playing tackle at the same time in this league. These are all time great tackles. I don't think we have any kind of tackles on their level in the game today.

You arent as good on the road outdoors. Youre 3-2, score less ppg and have less ypg. All this against awful defenses. It is fair to ponder whether or not the saints will succeed this week. It will be the best offense we have played all year and the worst defense we have played all year. Cant wait!

According to the good folks over at The Big Lead (via John Ourand of SBJ), Sunday’s showdown between the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers generated a mind-blowing 25.9 overnight rating. That figure is good enough to be the best of any AFC Wild Card game since 1988 and, more importantly, offers even more evidence of how captivating a figure Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has become.
