but we all knew what thetrin meant, yet still jumped on his definitions like a pack of rabid k-on fanboys
he just wanted hot blooded animu :(

People have accused me of being pedo because of this shit. I'm not going to just sit back and allow that to happen. The problem is that actual pedo-fans are into the same kinds of characvters and things for the express purpose of fapping to it, so moe has come to be seen as "I want to fuck that character" even when character in question is like 7. I mean seriously, there needs to be a distinction here. People are not hnnnging to Rin in Usagi Drop because they want to sex up a child.

If you are talking about how some people call you a furry then yes I agree because you just like cute pictures. Sometimes it happens to be furry art. so fucking what.

also, this is why I dont use the word "moe" as much because it is tainted. I just say "hnnng" or "thats fucking cute".

Totoro is even snoozier. I wonder if it's on the youtube of top 10 anime films.
I watched Totoro on VHS when I was a kid and enjoyed it, but haven't revisited it with my Critical Eye™ yet. But I literally fell asleep watching Spirited Away about 40 mins in not too long ago. It was not exciting, entertaining, or gripping in any way.

Miyazaki should generally not be allowed to direct anything other than fun adventure stuff like Cagliostro/Laputa/Porco Rosso. Now those are awesome.

Sounds like a personal problem. Are you getting enough sleep each night?

You're missing the point. It's one thing to hate moe, but if you're misconstruing what it is and condemning it for something it's not, then it's rash.

The moe/loli thread is a great example of this of people terribly ignorant about what they're hating exactly.

Also, this isn't targeted at you specifically thetrin. I apologize if it seemed that way.

I'm just going to avoid using the word "moe" from now on.

Anyway, on the other side of 12 hours of work is 4 days of freedom.
Cant wait.

are you denying that it has a very apparent sexual appeal and connotation among anime fans?
im not trying to prosecute you, stop taking everything so literally for your own good.

Just dont fucking misconstrue what it means alright? I do honestly get bothered by it, especially people calling me a pedo and other shit. Cajun means " I find this cute as hell" and thats all it means.

I was under the impression that's all it meant as well. I don't get what all the confusion is about. :/

Yes, and it goes back to people misunderstanding what the term moe is in its current incarnation.

It was a general statement. I've always had a problem with such generalizations like the notion of moe = loli because it's obvious ignorance.

Would it have read better if I said, "You're missing the point. It's one thing to hate moe, but if one's misconstruing what it is and condemning it for something it's not, then it's rash."

Gintama 242

This is pretty much the best thing ever for Dragonball fans. Was getting MAJOR deja-vu from that conversation about Vegeta with Bulma. Seems to be one of those discussions a lot of fans have.

This reminds me, I need to finish Kai one of these days. Think the neighbors have it all on blu-ray, so I should go over there or something.

when did I even mention that? pretty left field right there
for all intents and purposes, the otaku use of "moe" is whats being referred to here

"It's one thing to hate moe"
with a statement like this, the word needs a real solidarity

I love females in anime. I just don't want them to be retarded moe tropes. Females who act like females in real life are super cool.

My issue with moe is that every female is hypersexualized in one form or the other, and serve very little purpose other than to give the viewer a boner. Now, I'm not against boners, but it would be nice to see some strong, empowered females in anime once in a while, instead of being totally helpless and criminally stupid.

TTGL's Yoko is hypersexualized to a ridiculous degree, but at least she remains a strong, empowered female despite the fact that she fights wars in a bra and panties.

You have no idea what you just started here.

I've never said you said that. It's an example man.

Yes, and even you are still thinking its current meaning is its etymological meaning when its definition now is much different than it was then.

Man, so after blowing hundreds of dollars on animu, I'm left with two boxes of DVDs that I'll probably just keep sealed forever.

Anyway, it was nice to receive my TSRI-only box today:
(Super low res 3ds camera says hi!)

But between Aria, Maria, Utena and SnW, I think I own more than half the TSRI catalog now.

Yes, it is annoying. I agree.

I wasn't intending for it to be an insult. I apologize if it was.

Is it misconstrued as such among anime "fans?" Perhaps, yes. Is that what it is supposed to epitomize? Not at all.
Thank you.

Princess Tutu 14

What the fuck
Damn it, Mytho. Also wherever Kraehe was talking to her father reminds me of something I can't put my finger on.

this is the anime thread right?
If i used the word 'sick' in a medical thread, it wouldn't have the same effect as in a hip hop thread.

This doesn't really work unless when you use the word "sick" in either of the threads you mean "gives me a raging hard on".

...I'm not getting your logic jump, at all.

the word is used in correct context to this thread
unless people agree that moe doesn't first remind people of cutesey anime girls

Watching you guys with real pics go back and forth almost makes it possible for me to imagine you guys standing in a room shouting at each other.

I do feel like im talking with a bishou(nen?)jo character sometimes with genejin

This doesn't really work unless when you use the word "sick" in either of the threads you mean "gives me a raging hard on".

depending on the person that could work

Just because it's a commonly used misunderstanding of the word doesn't mean it's correct to use the wrong definition.

For the purpose of enlightening someone, would why I want to give them the wrong meaning?

from what I gather from this thread, there is no wrong meaning and its entirely subjective

Another 2

Why don't they just straight up tell the dude what kind of messed up shit is going on? Especially if people's lives are at risk then that seems the obvious thing to do.
The show has a rather unsettling feel to it but at times it comes across as rather forced (ie the randomly inserted shots of the dolls). Still, I wanna see just what the hell is going on with the girl and dat eyepatch so I'll continue to watch this.

What is maria?

No, this whole argument started because someone used it in the wrong context and we as individuals merely corrected him!

No it's not, there is a clear definition for what moe is, and there's nothing subjective about it.:P

Wait. You don't have Antique Bakery or Emma: A Victorian Romance?! :o
I already spent like 400 dollars during that sale, so I figure I'd wait. Also, I'm kind of iffy on Emma... I remember it being more Anglophile than Croisee was Francophile, and it wasn't as big a priority for me as these shows were.
(For Aria, I'm basically paying for the extras, since I've memorized the episodes by this point).

What is maria?
Maria-sama ga Miteru. Girls being girly at an all girl's Catholic school!

Don't make me bring back that huge-ass "What is Moe?" post, you filthy mongrels!

Read: Yuri subtext everywhere in this bitch.

Then you would be veritably incorrect.

still waiting on the unanimous definition here instead of "you're wrong"

I've always had a problem with such generalizations like the notion of moe = loli because it's obvious ignorance.

Lafiel: Okay moe is loli
Lafiel: without the sexualization

i dont even

Coined in Japan in the late 90s, "Moe" (萌え, pronounced as "Moh-Eh", derived from a Japanese word that means "budding" or sometimes "to burn") is an ill-defined otaku term that means, amongst others, "cute," "huggable," "endearing." While it's sometimes used to describe a series, it's more about a specific ideal or kind of character.

ill-defined seems to be the general consensus

*fistpump*

*cries tears of joy*

I'm so happy right now.

Now do you understand why I've been hyping this ep up as a life changing experience :D

I can get down with that. I'll check it out.

You'll probably like it. It's kind of similar to Death Note, but with a sympathetic protagonist that just can't catch a break. Just be warned it starts out kind of slow. Think I was pretty bored until like episode 9 and then was blown away by the following arc.
