Kill Me Baby's OP is strangely addictive. At first I thought it was terrible, but I think there's a mysterious force behind the beat that makes you eventually like it.

This discussion of rape is probably the worst one we've ever had and that is saying something.

Sorry for helping to ruin the thread. We should focus on being happy.

I was being sarcastic. This whole rape argument is pretty fucked up.

Yeah, I dunno what's wrong with my sarcasm detector today. I'm gonna call it "Work was shit today" and use that excuse.

Mm. That sounds good.

...

... I need some cute. I'm gonna go watch some Miku.

Then what is giving consent? Because the wikipedia definition of lack of consent is: "either forcible compulsion by the perpetrator or an incapacity to consent on the part of the victim (such as persons who are asleep, intoxicated or otherwise mentally helpless)." If there is no lack of consent, then by definition she consented.

Consent is saying yes.

Not resisting is not saying yes, it's just not resisting. There are reasons why someone may not resist, but also not consent.

This really isn't very complicated.

Time to come up with an excuse to get in there.

Three things.

1) You acted before as if it were absurd that someone who didn't resist could be raped. I used Wikipedia to show that this was not necessarily the case, and that the definition of consent was more complicated. It's not a legally binding authority on consent or rape.

2) Even if we're following Wikipedia, "may result from" is not the same as "is". It implies that there can be other, unmentioned circumstances that can lead to an unstated lack of consent.

3) Even if we ignore "may result from", and act like the circumstances mentioned are the only ways that someone can fail to consent without explicitly stating it, you're working on a very narrow definition of "forcible compulsion".

Each party has a responsibility to be sure that the other is okay with sex before the act. If someone is too shy and withdrawn to outwardly and violently refuse someone she doesn't want to be with, that's not license for anyone with the courage to ask to have sex with her regardless of her wishes.

1) Don't see the point of you bringing that up. When I acted that way, I was assuming a normal situation without the having the features of "lack of consent".

2) Yes very true, but I fail to see why we need more circumstances for this situation, unless you think a person's weak character/personality comes into this.

3) I'm not working on that narrow definition, because I know that there would be more circumstances, but bringing them up wouldn't be relevant. In this situation we don't need an extensive list of circumstances to know whether she didn't consent or not, because there are only a few possibilities of her rationale for allowing this to happen.

And I'm saying her rationale was her character, as Steroyd claimed before. But now Steroyd claims that it was because she was "in shock, and didn't respond to anything at the time". That's a convenient way of phrasing it, "in shock" sounds a lot like a medical condition. She was simply more just shocked in the sense she was surprised more than anything. So Kotohana's rationale was that she didn't mind what she and Taisuke did. It was one of the moments in the anime where she let go of her obsession with Makoto because she felt betrayed.

Consent is saying yes.

Not resisting is not saying yes, it's just not resisting. There are reasons why someone may not resist, but also not consent.

This really isn't very complicated.

How does one "say yes"/consent? Do you mean both parties declaring to each other something along the lines of "I consent to you having sex with me", or is it just participating? You haven't explained anything really.

I don't see the relation between GC and the E7 at all...lol

You seem to be mixing up what I've been saying about her rationale before the event and after the event.

And IIRC she said or thought of nothing but Makoto during that whole scene, because she was in denial that he moved onto Sekai.

This is easily the dumbest and most contrived end-of-the-world scenario I've ever seen.

It's a real shame about the rest of the show.

No I don't think so. Here's what you said:

By consent you mean not saying no? You're talking about Kotonaha here, she didn't resist or argue back when everyone was flinging shit at her in the series, it's her character.

You say what explains her rationale here is her character of not standing up for herself.

Mentally helpless does not mean she has a mental illness, it's already explained that she was in shock, and didn't respond to anyting at the time.

No, I'm pretty sure both instances you were referring to her rationale during the scene, unless I've missed something...

I watched the part again, and she doesn't say anything like that except that she's
Makoto's lover".

Aim for the Ace 5:
Hair turning into butterflies and cats getting punched. This show is awesome. I love how Toudou has dropped all pretense and is outright telling Hiromi that he's stalking her. Otowa also seems to be getting more desperate. Bitches being bitches and all that. There were some pretty painful looking shots during Hiromi's training, and this show has some pretty nice visual flair despite the very limited animation. There's also some great usage of sound going on here.

Ah yeah, I remembered what I was getting at shortly after I typed that, her introverted personality and the shock she got were a bad combination, two sides of the same coin as it were.

I watched the part again, and she doesn't say anything like that except that she's
Makoto's lover".

That's not exactly "letting go of her obsession over Makoto"

Well don't say Kawamori didn't warn you.

Yes, but I've already presented my arguments against personality and shock being factors in why you would think she didn't consent, which is ridiculous. About being shocked I said:

That's a convenient way of phrasing it, "in shock" sounds a lot like a medical condition. She was simply more just shocked in the sense she was surprised more than anything. So Kotohana's rationale was that she didn't mind what she and Taisuke did. It was one of the moments in the anime where she let go of her obsession with Makoto because she felt betrayed.

Being shocked at what happened was part of her personality. Just because she was shocked and surprised at what happened, it does not mean she didn't consent. People do all sorts of things when their surprised and it is down to their personality.

and about personality/character:

The fact that it's someone's character, for example, a slut to fuck people doesn't make them exempt from their responsibilities. Oh hi, I'm a murderer, but it's my character you know, so please excuse me. You've shot yourself in the foot with that argument, because a characteristic is part of someone's character, it's what makes them do things. If you suddenly start making people exempt because: "hey ya know, it's just my character derp" every criminal would run around innocent.
It's totally her own fucking fault that she didn't resist, no one else. And I felt sorry for Taisuke, because after he had sex with her, she wants to forget everything, because it's his friend that she wants. Imagine how he must feel after he went through all the mental preparation to have sex with her. So he was pretty much used.
And no, I didn't miss shit, the "(such as persons who are asleep, intoxicated or otherwise mentally helpless)" were in brackets and were corresponding to "an incapacity to consent on the part of the victim" part; I intentionally didn't include to avoid and long winded quote. If you're trying to imply she was "mentally helpless", then no she wasn't, she had no mental illness. You can't go around calling people who made mistakes because of their feelings "mentally helpless".

You have yet to respond to what I've said about character not justifying your lack of consent.

That's not exactly "letting go of her obsession over Makoto"

I said "It was one of the moments" -_-

It feels like I'm following your arguments better than you are, and you're not really following mine.

See this dude? Yeah, that smug douchebag. Thanks to this fucking piece of shit over 120 million people had to starve and suffer. All of this shit could have been avoided if he just explained to people what the hell was wrong and what was going on in a calm and collected manner instead of the whimsically metaphorical shit he liked to spout to others. Clearly his hatred of words is thanks to his complete and utterly attrocious people skills.

Also fighting the visualisation of earths suffering with fancy rave glow-sticks.

Still clinging to our sinful modern society, eh?

Well don't say Kawamori didn't warn you.
Clearly Kawamori should stick to mechanical design rather than trying to troll foolish people with this misanthropic garbage.

School Days 10

Party went as expected. Quite the haunted look to end the ep though.
Nearly there!
awww shit just two more to go!

You're just mad that you're not as kind of a person as Chris because your mother didn't give birth to you in a lagoon.
