The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

Or Zelda a RPG.

Never confirmed a western release; they just said they wanted us to enjoy it if it does.

There are other interviews/comments as well. XSEED said they would like to localize Ys IV and V if the possibility arose, before the announcement of the remake. And Kondo said he would probably discuss localization with XSEED's president last September. Among other comments.

Safe to say it's coming. Not guaranteed by any means, but extremely likely.

The only game on that list I'd question is Tales, because... you know... Namco.

I'm curious to know if you can also use a bluetooth headset. And how easy is it to mute? PS3 makes muting far too complicated.
You can, Kyle wrote that he was playing Dynasty Warriors NEXT while chatting through a bluetooth headset soon after the launch.

Vita has a built in microphone that can be easily muted during party chat. Hold down the PS button for a few seconds and you get a screen with brightness bar, music control, and the option to toggle mute for mic.

Perfect. I don't know why Sony never added this to PS3. Sony's microphone setup has always been too complicated. I think this is part of the reason relatively few people have mics online.

So with music control, does that also confirm custom soundtracks across the board? Sony's really stepped up their game with Vita's system-wide features. Hopefully a sign of good things on PS4.

None confirmed for NA yet though.

Disgaea is confirmed, and two of the other three are all but certain for localization by Atlus and XSEED - Innocence R being the one I'd question, particularly if ToTA 3DS and ToGF sell poorly (and I've heard the former is already doing poorly in Europe).

not great. Most of that is coming from the preorder pack which is Sony provided. So you're really just getting a 4GB card bundled - the vita and game would be around £259 anyway.

Yeah, its literally a saving of about £18. Why the fuck are the retailers being so damn useless?

Well I finally played Vita. My video playing Wipeout 2048 for the first time (sorry for the shitty iPod quality of the video). While playing sometimes I wasn't seeing at the screen because I was talking to a game :
http://youtu.be/10m0ehvdYSg?hd=1

Early impressions (I only played during aprox. 15 mins):

-Wipeout 2048 : Awesome. Great gameplay, speed and visuals. FPS is low, with a couple big drops a couple of times, I would say they are in PSP levels (without overclocking) so they can be improved a lot, but it's playable. But let's hope this demo is an old build and they improve the FPS for the final EU release build. Played with classics controls. Day 1. Felt that pad and face buttons are smaller and closer, but placing the numb over them feels that you have quicker access to them, and felt robust.

-Uncharted : Fucking awesome graphics! In the handheld looks way, way better than in videos or screenshots. The smaller resolution stuff doesn't affect it, it looks great. Looks like another PS3 Uncharted, not a toned down version. PS3 like visuals. Only played some few minutes (chapter 4 I think). Touchscreen works great for the climbing sections where you jump from a bar to another. Dual analogs feel great, way better than in PSP, but as a PS3 user my first impression was that it would be better if they were a bit more harder / stronger to move, but I think they would be great once you get used. Maybe the right analog was too close to the face buttons, but not sure if it was due to the crapply craddle where the handheld was attached, that made it a bit unconfortable to hold and too wheighty.

-Escape Plan : Slick. The old-movie like B&W artstyle looked great in that screen. A ton of trial and error cool puzzles, that makes you play with all the new interfaces to solve them. Cool animations, like some deaths or when the character is dancing.

-Motorstorm RC : Dissapointed as a Motorstorm fan. Missed a Motorstorm-like in-car camera, all the available ones are too away from the car to enhace the RC experience. Controls are confusing at first because they aren't like in a Motorstorm game, they are like when driving real RC cars : left analog to accelerate / break / go back, and the right analog to turn left / right. Visuals aren't great. Not a really bad game, but it wasn't what I was expecting, something closer to Motorstorm. Will buy it to support them, I want another real Motorstorm.

-Reality Fighters : It isn't Street Fighter, but better than I expected. Demo let you choose between AR background or preset 360 pictures as backgrounds. Animations, AR and motion sensing working great at what looks like is 60fps, really smooth. There were pre-made characters and a fully customizable one, including the option of to map in 3D your face to the character. Gameplay looked decent or almost, but I had no idea about the moveset so I was just smashing buttons.

-Little Deviants : Just was able to play a darker version of that minigame where you push the floor using the backpad to create a little mountain that will push the main character. Looked fun and smooth, but the graphics/artstyle were ugly, sort of a PSP / PS2 game with higher poly.

The card included a lot of other games like Gravity Daze, Hot Shot Golf, etc. but I had to pass the device.

I can't believe you played LittleDeviants and Reality Fighters over Gravity, but whatever. Did you see any footage of Unit13? The retail and psn games already announced are plenty to get me through this year. Hell of a lineup. But I hope Sony's got something even bigger than Uncharted planned for Vita's first holiday.

A new God of War from Ready at Dawn perhaps. Maybe a new franchise from Guerrilla or Santa Monica.

I think polyphony should release a GT game rather soonish. Only include the premium cars and just port it as best as possible to vita. Include the DLC etc. I'd buy it.

Touch menus.

Vita needs a good FPS game badly. I have absolutely no faith in Resistance: Burning Skies, but I'm still grasping on to some thread of hope that the Vita Killzone title will be the system's first real killer app.

I don't know what to think about Burning Skies. That studio has never made a good game. They've never even made an average game. So it's troubling. On the other hand, the bridge segment they showed recently looks pretty good, and the game definitely looks like Resistance.

But once you add 3rd parties into the mix, I can't imagine Vita will lack for shooters. Even if they're straight ports.

It would be cool to see Epic revisit UT3 on Vita. That game's pace is well suited to a handheld. Add better community features (matchmaking, stat-tracking), and I'd double dip.

As for Killzone, Sony Cambridge has done good work in the past. It was recently announced that BigBig (Pursuit Force, LittleDeviants) would be closed, and Cambridge would be partially folded into Guerrilla. This is sad news for the workers, but probably means Killzone Vita will be a major development effort. I doubt the game is coming this year, but it should be good when it's ready.

I asked this question before. Yes there is custom soundtrack support for all VITA games, but how it functions vary for each game; for Wipeout, the BGM mutes automatically, but for others you may need to turn it down manually.

I was specially interested in Uncharted, Wipeout and Escape Plan. I skipped Gravity because I know there will be a demo available day 1, and likely I will buy the game soon. I would have played it with more time, I only was able to play during 15 mins or so.

Was a bit interested in MSRC because I'm a fan of the series and I only had a video previously to the event.

When they asked me to bring back the device (my friends were playing with it more than an hour when I arrived there), I just checked the 2 first games I found in a rush, that likely I wasn't going to buy (Little Deviants and Reality Fighters).

The handheld had a ton of games installed. I don't remember to see a Unit 13 icon. There weren't big screens with videos, there were just like 10 Vitas to play with a giant banner and some Sony guys helping people. So no Unit 13 icon.

I never played Motorstorm with hoodcam (only tested it a bit), so i'm ok with that, but i really hope that there is a d-pad steering option like the other Motorstorm games have.

Old?
Unit 13 Coop gameplay
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/co-op-reveal-unit-13/726026

It seems to be much better than what I expected after the initial reveal. It also helps that I've been replaying Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow and this game looks very similar.

Man, that narrator really makes the game seem exciting!
not.

I'm pretty excited for Unit 13. The design is well-suited for handheld gaming, and it's coming at the perfect time in the hardware cycle to stand out.

Also, based on the video, Zipper's 3rd person controls have improved since Socom 4.

Killzone 2 was a really solid FPS that was overshadowed by a saturated console FPS market. FPS titles are either gimped or non-existent on handhelds, so a competent first person shooter has a greater opportunity to shine and really show off that the Vita is a home console on the go. Uncharted could have been that, but without online multiplayer I feel its potential is cut short.

EDIT: Unless I misread your post, and you were just making a joke about Killzone and Killer app =P

Doesn't Unit 13 not have multiplayer? I just can't find myself getting excited for, what seems to be, a SOCOM game with just a campaign.

I was wondering about online play (at least co-op) in Unit 13 myself, but the game does support voice chat, so i'm pretty sure that it has online play. It seem kinda redundant to have support for voice chat if it only have local play (unless you're sitting in different rooms though).
