I always tell people that they'll learn what it means to be and live as the embodiment of manly spirit when they watch TTGL. They look at me like i'm an idiot.

Then they come back to me 1 week later and just start yelling and giving me hi-fives.

I have worked WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM into conversation so many times.

Gurren Lagann has forever ruined mecha anime for me, there's no way anything can top it.
A Gurren Lagann without stupid Gainax fanservice and better girl characters could top it, but a lot of variables would have to line up for that to occur. For now it certainly seems it will have the crown of super robots for a while.

Giant Robo, the main character is way more manly than any of the wusses in Gurren Lagann that have to sit in their precious cockpit to control their robots. Giant Robo has a kid hang on the side of his robot with one hand and shout commands into his watch!

That needs to get a Blu-ray release so I have a better incentive to watch it.

Was browsing the internets... and saw this...

DEMPSEY-ROLL%21%21.gif

Was just recently rewatching new challenger... now I need to rewatch the 1st season again =(

Brave 10 - 1

Lmao, this show suffers ridiculously bad pacing yet it's very entertaining. Definitely going to watch more.

Tiger & Bunny 01

Saw they had this when I first checked out Lagrange, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Using Western-style superheroes to satirize modern reality TV and advertising was pretty cool, but I'm not sure that premise can sustain an entire series.

Interesting how Tiger's body language is exaggerated when his face is covered up.

I watched a few episodes to find out it just wasn't my kind of thing, but a lot of people seem to like it.

The thing I loved most about T&B was that it was incredibly more successful than S7 even though it received extremely less budget and were forced to use CG in a ton of places the people working on it didn't want to.

Sooooo... Thermae Romae..... WTF man... wtf....

And there's a live action movie coming too?

WTF.

School Days 12

Heh.

When Makoto started making out with Katsura right in front of Seika, my suspension of disbelief was completely shattered. Even Makoto, as fucked up as he is, wouldn't make a decision like that.

Then Seika killed Makoto, and I was like heh, who could feel sorry for him.

Then I realized Makoto was chopped up in Katsura's bag, and I lol'd.

Then Katsura stabbed Seika, and I was like ;_;

Then Katsura said there was no fetus, and I was like ??? Was Seika lying? Was she confused? Or was Katsura confused?

Then Katsura was on the boat with Makoto's head, and I lol'd again.

Good show. I'm normally the type of guy that gets all emo and depressed when a show ends on a depressing note, but who could take this that seriously.

Two of my friends recently argued vehemently that Katsuna was
delusional. Seika was pregnant.... and Katsuna forcefully believed there was no fetus.

I think that's BS... in the world of cinema, if something is implied, then it is so. The show clearly implied through the cinematic language of a dramatic reveal that
there was no fetus. Seika was not pregnant. It did not communicate in any way that Katsura was having a delusion... on that point, anyway.
I agree with Regulus that "Basically: everyone's a dipshit."

Thankfully my new girlfriend had watched the show, and she said
of course there's no fetus! Seika was lying the whole time! Isn't that the whole point?
.....I think I found a keeper, lol.

Hanasaku Iroha 24:
Well, that was pretty great. I loved the scenes with Tohru and Minchi in this episode. I thought they really sold everything well there and had me understanding their feelings very well. I think every character came across pretty well here, and the dialogue was quite strong. The final scene of the episode was very well directed, too. I'm interested to see how everything comes together in the final episodes.

don't forget the short shorts

it's a real shame about everything leading up to the ending :(

Reading the interviews with the team was depressing when they talked about the budget issues because they mentioned things like "____ said as he seemed to smile with regret" and so on. If they ever make a followup to the series, i'll be pumped for it because the show was just a fun ride.

Enjoy it while you can, its barely selling at a Fractale :(

RIP Madhouse.

I just started watching Chihayafuru and this is the saddest thing ever. I could never have predicted how much I would be enjoying it, but it's now (retroactively) my favorite Fall '11 series.

As an aside, hi AnimeGAF, I hope you have room for one more.

Rinne no Lagrange 2 makes me zzz and I haven't been keeping up with anything, not even Nise. :( Only thing I look forward to now is Chihayafuru.

Too much foreplay and not enough climaxing is frustrating, dude. And my point is that it even fails at world-building because the episodes are constructed with so much filler that the thing becomes tedious to watch.

It's not if the foreplay builds. Admit it: you expected something else, and the show not coming to satisfy your immediate desire for action and fanservice left you frustrated. It's fine, and it's a legitimate reason not to like the show, but just because it doesn't follow YOUR standards, it doesn't mean that a show is bad for it. Seriously, those PVs have everyone spoiled rotten. If you went into this show cold (and had no idea what Moretsu roughly translated to), I'm sure you'd have a much different perspective on the show. So far, it's following a pretty stock standard conflict/revolution wave. You wouldn't want them to get some AMAZING SUPER-EXCITING SPACE BATTLE, and then fall flat from there, would you? Hell, after an amazing climax, not being able to pick the pace back up is even more frustrating and tedious. I'd rather that they build up the intensity like they're doing now so that they can fit in what action they have planned without resorting to power creep. Wouldn't you say so?

But
if she was lying, why would she go through the motions even when alone? Throwing up, holding her stomach, etc. This would imply she actually believed she was pregnant, or at least strongly wanted to be pregnant, thus it possibly being a delusion on her part.

I think this may be a case of "let's fuck with the audience's heads".

I expected it to be like the latter half of the PV, not the first 1/4th of the series to be like the first half of the PV. I expected the background/filler stuff to happen in the first episode or two, and then get into what the season is going to be about.

Rinne no Lagrange 3 - Another good episode with all the good things - mecha action, genki girl power and YURILUST.

Grandfather's Lamp

Or how stupid Thomas Edison ruined everything.

This was a really nice debut short from Teiichi Takiguchi. He has a good eye for compositions and the background paintings really sold the setting. The character designs are simple but expressive. Telling someone's life story in 24 minutes isn't exactly the easiest task, but Takiguchi pulls it off very effectively, with good use of transitions that communicate the passage of time. I hope he has a long future in the industry ahead of him.

Technology never changes.

For the 19th century moe, of course.

Dude works fast.

I just thought these were nice images.

Didn't they announce production on a few follow-up movies a couple of months ago?

Blu-ray sales are gonna tank anyway.
Sounds like business as usual for Madhouse. :(

I don't remember watching more than one PV, and only once.

I think this argument is getting too heated to be continued, but it sounds like you missed my point. I don't hate the show because it is slow paced or because it lacks Baysplosions or massive amounts of fanservice. I hate the show because nothing happens for the vast majority of its length, and when something happens it is usually played in the most down-to-earth undramatic way. It has nothing to do with my expectations of a good show and everything with making a story interesting for the audience who is not invested in it. It's about creating tension, mystery, or whatever the fuck buzzword people use to explain hooks.

To be honest I don't think the show is bad, even if my loudness betrays my sentiments. I just think it's dull and a waste of everyone's efforts to keep up with it. My feelings towards it are mostly of indifference, but I play it all the way up to eleven for the laughs here. Maybe I should start colour-coding my posts for levels of seriousness.

I only hope that Nittere likes the prestige associated with this kind of stuff because I don't really know how Madhouse plans on getting funded going forward.

It's interesting looking at the previous shows that aired in Chihayafuru's slot. Madhouse has done a lot of them: Hanada Shounen-shi, Monster, Akagi, Death Note, One Outs, Mouryou no Hako, Souten Kouro, among others. It's possible NTV could see value in keeping them around to continue to fill that slot. Guess we'll see.

Caught up with Symphogear

so... this show is pretty much sacred gear the mv with some precure elements?

hmmm... This could make for a really fun game though lol.

Maybe something like a mix between mother 3 and that ds game with rhyme based combat.

Ashita no Joe 3:
Joe is a really devious guy, although he's kind of likable in that way as well. He really pulls some asshole moves in this episode, but it's believable for his character and leads me to want to find out more about what makes him tick, especially the scene with him being distrusting of anyone who is charitable. I'm glad that the series is taking a real look at the different facets of economic hardship and how people act during them. Tange is the real standout character in my mind so far. This episode was really all about his motivations and what the world looks like through his eyes.

Arjuna 3
I like the idea here but the douche characters and the overall preachiness grates.

Sad I didn't get to watch any glass fleet today too!

Mirai Nikki 15

Such quality. I never thought they had it in them to outdo how awful the first OP was but they certainly blew me away with how shit the new one is, same goes for the new ED. No MurMur this week. ;_;

Aquarion Evol 3

Mix is annoying. Like, REALLY annoying. Not even Silvia was this bad in the original. I can say with complete confidence this is my LEAST favorite type of character.

Also, Going from the hot-blooded, unapologetic wild boy Apollo to the standard wimpy protagonist Sora is really disappointing. If the former did something accidentally perverted, he wouldn't stick around to get slapped by some girl; he would slap them back.

Anyway, Andy is a cool guy. Seems like a more repressed Pierre, which makes him quite the sympathetic bro. Hope to see more of him.

Really, I'm more interested in the villains than anyone else, especially since Kagura is essentially a douchebag Apollo.

I haven't seen any of this yet, do we know who is who out of the orignal cast?

I've been hoping that Apollo would actually be the one guy that looked like a villian. I just think I will skip it if they turned Apollo into that new guy who really looks like a chump.
