The term second world is no longer used. Second world used to refer to the communist Soviet Union, since it no longer exists the expression's original meaning also should have disappeared but people continue to use it ignorantly. The correct term for Brazil is, IIRC, developing country.

Fake edit: As of 2011 Brazil is known as a Newly Industrialized Country.

I really think you are analyzing this too much.
People are going to stereotype.
Travel agencies are really bad about it.
The simple fact is, people not from a particular culture will have a narrow charicatured view of what they think that culture represents.
Thats human nature.

To me it does. It's my country and its' people were depicted in a completely incorrect and ignorant way. I'm not saying this anime is the devil it just bothered me since this is the image people tend to have of my country and it would have been nice to be shown something other than the stereotypes people associate with it. To me it was on the same level as Speedy Gonzales' representation of Mexicans.

Yeah, I completely understand that, but I just think that it's such an unimportant moment in the actual episode, given how quickly it goes by. I think it's more down to laziness (drawing everyone in a crowd looking the same) than anything else. If a large portion of the episode was set in Brazil, then I think it would be a bigger issue. I understand where you're coming from, though.

I know it is, but it doesn't excuse the fact that it was still stereotyping and that to me is a sign of a poor professional.

Yes it was an minor part of the episode but given the subject of the show and Brazil's reputation with regards to the theme I knew that at one point I would be seeing something relating to Brazil. If you want to see this done right watch Giant Killing, they have three Brazilians on there and at least there's some diversity. What's more is that they are actually speaking Portuguese, this was probably the only anime I've ever seen to make it so that characters actually speak the language of where they're from I wish this was done more often.

Popeyes to all of that. I'm not even kidding. I'm hungry as hell.

Being hungry is rarely an issue here.
I can understand associating us with great food because its absolutely true.

If anything though, what gets to me is how people mix cajun with creole and New Orleans.
In fact it is two similar yet separate cultures in Southern Louisiana.
Most people just mix them together so I see where ezalc is coming from but im also demonstrating that stereotyping applies to every culture.

Finally, Rihoko... it's been too long but you have done well, you have broke the curse, you deserve it.

Edit : Yeah!! Sexy Ai is next!!

Want to have them be recognized as any country? In a sports anime it's easy, make the people cheering wear the jersey of the team. It's effective and it doesn't involve blatant stereotyping like how they handled it in this anime.

Mexico loves Speedy Gonzales, though. Back when they tried to ban Speedy Gonzales cartoons for being "offensive", Mexicans were the first to ask Warner to bring him back.

This is why I said that if I was tasked with making a professional video about New Orleans I wouldn't just go along with what I think I know about it, I would research it more thoroughly.

Didn't know this.

Didn't know this.

What about if you made a video about Lafayette, LA?
Thats really where us cajuns are and it has little to do with NOLA.
but I bet you people saw my name and thought about Nola.

I saw your name and thought of Cajunator kind of like Terminator. New Orleans didn't even cross my mind.

If I had a dollar every time Japan portrayed America as a monolithic land of blonde-haired, blue-eyed Aryans...

and they are filthy rich

And have huge tits. All American women are D cups at a minimum.

I have a feeling
that the headmaster is his dad

I could see that. I wouldn't be all that upset by it either, considering
the headmaster has always looked out for Kaito since the beginning.

Considering the way that most of the world depicts Americans, I've always been surprised that Japan continues to depict them as exaggeratedly attractive rather than exaggerated ugly. Ah well, I guess that busty blondes are preferable to morbidly obese people
unless Japan's idea of morbidly obese is Rihoko, then by all means feel free to adjust your stereotyping, Japan.

Rihoko isnt fat. Why is she always portrayed as such?

Different standards etc etc I guess. I hear "don't eat that, you'll get fat!" in anime pretty often even when it's directed at a girl eating a single cookie, potato chip, etc. I don't know what to make of Japan's attitudes on weight because just as often in anime you'll see girls eating monstrous parfaits the size of their head with no remonstration from anyone around them and no visible remorse on their part.

So what's good this season?

You've already gotten plenty of answers, but I'll just throw in my two cents:

Really Good
Chihayafuru
Gintama
Natsume's Book of Friends Season 4

Pretty Good
Daily Lives of High School Boys
Nisemonogatari
Rinne no Lagrange
Thermae Romae

Pretty Decent
Ano Natsu de Matteru
Another
Poyopoyo

Haha upon close inspection of the OP, I didn't know the director of Blood C is directing Another, now episode 3 makes more sense.

Another certainly falls into the xxxHOLiC/Blood-C side of Mizushima's output more than the Hare+Guu/Crayon Shin-chan/Azazel-san side.

Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei 3
Man, that was reference overload. I don't even think I'll even try and get every reference on top of always trying to read all that on-screen text that's everywhere and changes every frame.

Because the show says she is. By anime standards she is I guess.

I'm using this post as a flimsy excuse to tell everyone to watch Real Drive. It's like a nonviolent Ghost in the Shell with pleasantly plump girls. I don't know anyone else who's ever seen it even though it only aired a few years ago.

I watched the first 2 eps back when it aired, but stalled on it. The premise seemed pretty interesting. I've been meaning to get back around to the show though. I think most people here are aware of the show, at the very least because of the girls.

It's more like a plodding and uneventful GitS. I made it as far as the episode with the VR dogs or something of the sort and that's because the voluptuous girls were the only things keeping me going.

And I was so pumped for it at first, too. :(

It actually explores some intriguing subjects and has a pretty interesting vision of the future, including a much less grim depiction of what cyberbrains and artificial bodies are capable of than GitS. I don't even know why the show decided to design the girls the way it did, especially since it's never addressed in the show and there's no fanservice apart from some blatant pantyshots in the first episode.

Definitely pick it back up eventually, I was always disappointed that it sank into such depths of obscurity.

I remember hearing about an anime with more voluptuous girls, never really looked into it though.

Amagami SS+ 04

I was saving all my tears and RAAAGGGEEE incase this episode did not go the way I wanted to.

Luckily, I don't have to cry myself to sleep tonight.

It's a decidedly slow show, I remember in particular a multi-episode arc dealing with the environment toward the end of the show that I could barely stay awake during. I ended up liking the mix of sci-fi/mystery/slice of life, but I can see why it's not something everyone will enjoy.

Because Masamune Shirow.

That seems like the opposite of the kind of character design that I usually associate him with, but my aversion to the freakish sinewy elongated women that I've seen has kept me from paying much attention to the rest of his art.

Amagami SS+ 4

Rihoko victory, friendzone barrier broken! There were some who said it couldn't be done, but finally it happened.

Ai is next huh...eh. Lets get to Sexhair and Haruka.

Mexicans love Speedy Gonzales, what are you talking about?

Good ol' 7th fighting the good fight.

Anyway Speedy is more of a Chicano than a Mexico Mexican.
Rihoko is perfect:
OMFG NEED A DAKIMAKURA NOW

A discussion that ended last page and something that I didn't know about (the Speedy Gonzales part.)
I just wanted to hammer it through your head, yapa yapa ándale ándale.

If anyone wanted to tackle the racist stereotypes in that cartoon they should be pointing at the rats anyway. They are lazy and ugly and slow and absent-minded.

Reborn 170 - 175

Whoever viz got to sub the episodes had so many typos, wow. So many epic parts, Choice arc is probably one of my favorite arcs among the long running anime Ive seen.

Persona 4: The Animation - 15://Getting drunk from non-alcoholic beverages may be hazardous to your health

Oh God, DAT PERSONA 3 MUSIC. The whole episode was like a 24-minute long fanboygasm. It makes me want to go back and play Persona 3 again, except you know, 100 hours long LOL. Goddammit. I really should play my copy of P3P sometime though, my poor PSP just sits there unloved. Except, well FFXIII-2 in just a few days, so goddammit. I've been ignoring P3P for more than a year now, as I bought it when it was initially released.

Ah yeah, about the episode. Yu just don't give a shit, because IT AIN'T GONNA SUCK ITSELF. It looked like Rise was getting to the point where she was going to after having one too many of the non-alcoholic beverages. They did a good job of making sure all the locations from P3 appeared in the episode.

Naoto's voice sounds considerably more masculine in the anime than it did in the game. I'm not sure if that's intentional or not since all the same seiyuus were reunited for the show, plus in this episode we also got DAT MEGANEKKO and quite frankly Chihiro looks way better than she did in P3 or during her P4 cameo. It's too bad they weren't able to squeeze in the other cast members of P3 but well they all graduated except Fuuka and Ken, and nobody gives a fuck about Ken.
