I feel like if you care about the series you probably won't buy this game. Especially considering they disbanded the original team earlier this year.
I'll give it a chance, at least. I can't evaluate something I haven't even played before. And it might be an alright RPG. *shrug* I just want to see if they've learned from Tierkreis's shortcomings (and given some of the promo content, it seems like they kind of have).I feel like if you care about the series you probably won't buy this game. Especially considering they disbanded the original team earlier this year.
Torwald Albarek
Seiyuu: Daisuke Ono
This fellow is the main character's ancestor from 100 years ago. He fights against the Centennial Monster in his era as part of the military. He treats the main character as a younger brother.
Rolf Raud
Seiyuu: Koji Yusa
Torwald's best friend. He is a mage who was an officer during the battle against the Centennial Monster.
Ilia Barukai
Seiyuu: Mamiko Noto
The village healer. She's like an older sister to the hero and his friends. The village where she was born and raised disappeared when she was child. She was adopted by the mayor of Shulat Town.
Meamei
Seiyuu: Hisako Kanemoto
She belongs to the Feather Tribe, a bird race. They're mostly wary race, but she's very self-reliant and lives alone in a forest.
Emperor Leopherias XIII
Seiyuu: Tomokazu Sugita
"You've come a long way, Terube Village heroes."
The 13th Emperor of the Aionian Empire. He is compassionate, thinking of the people's happiness and future. He is worshipped almost like a god within the Holy Empire. When he learns that the main characters fought against the Centennial Monster, he summons them to the Imperial Palace. But what is his true objective in inviting the main characters?
Makia Zafir
Seiyuu: Miyuki Sawashiro (who also said: "I was allowed to do the voice for the main character as a child." Hrm?)
"If that is His Highness's wish..."
She is the calm, cool, and collected swordswoman who leads the Shining Leaf Knights. She is a direct descendent of the founder of the Blue Flash Style, Maximos Zafir, and she is extremely skilled in the style. She wholeheartedly devotes all her respect, affection, and loyalty to the Holy Emperor Leopherias XIII.
Lugado Lugam
Seiyuu: Akio Ohtsuka
"Hmm... It looks like you have quite a connection to these gentlemen."
The Prime Minister of the Holy Aionian Empire. He is in control of the... uh... 岩の根 (Ed: Origin of the Rock? Huh? That sounds dumb.), which is an administrative organization which extend throughout the entire Empire. He is also in charge of the research institution, and thus can be considered as the "Brains of the Holy Aionian Empire". He understands everything that he needs to do in any field. He is also a capable bureaucrat.
Damdin
Seiyuu: Hiroaki Tajiri
"I shall sever the root of evil which makes enemies of the Holy Empire!"
He is the Commander of the Holy Aionian Imperial Army, and also the leader of the First Branch. It's thought that the scales he was born with are even harder than the metal armour he wears. He is a person of conviction, and he doesn't take too kindly the existence of enemies to the Holy Empire. If you make him your ally, then there is no person that is more reliable than he is.
The Scarlet Axe Leader: Aaron
Seiyuu: Norio Wakamoto
“As long as Aionia exists, we’ll never be content! That is the reason why our organization was formed!”
He is a middle-aged man with long, white hair. He is the leader of the Scarlet Axe, an underground organization that is now gaining support within the Regional Forces, with the goal of defeating the Holy Empire in mind. 20 years ago, while he was away, his hometown was destroyed and his wife and child killed. Because of this, he joined the Scarlet Axe. He acquired the leadership position by being very skilled in combat [Ed. Note: the phrase used here is “being aware of his footing” which is usually used in sports or combat. I took it as meaning that he has great spatial awareness in combat, of good swordsmanship, or even just short-range combat in general.]
Wakamoto-sama states, “He is very charismatic, an excellent speaker and he’s very sharp. But he’s also a very human character who can get caught up in himself/his emotions and show lots of reckless behaviour.”
Zaveed
Seiyuu: Takahiro Sakurai (yaaaaay)
"I will cut down the evil toxic tree, Aionia, by any means necessary!”
He is a sharp-eyed man with red hair. He feels a lot of animosity towards the main character (who has allied himself with the Holy Aionian Empire). This is because, three years ago, he joined a resistance group against the Empire in Multillion (I guess this is a town). His friend was killed by the Holy Imperial Army, and Zaveed also sustained life-threatening injuries. Ever since then, he’s vowed revenge against the Holy Empire.
Takahiro Sakurai says that Zaveed is a hot-tempered mage.
Zociom
Seiyuu: Ryūsei Nakao
“If I’m a devil, then what the hell are you, who burned thousands of humans alive in the town?!”
He is a short old mage who carries a staff. He’s the former leader of the Scarlet Axe and Aaron’s close associate. Several decades ago, his family was murdered by the Holy Imperial Army. Due to this, he lives for revenge. His role appears to be to supervise the Mage Institution within the Scarlet Axe… but…
Rochel
Seiyuu: Aya Hisakawa
“Make haste! At this rate, we won’t be able to meet Lord Aaron!”
She is one of the leaders of the Scarlet Axe. She is a beautiful woman, who’s Aaron’s chief officer, supporting the him and the organization with her military and literary knowledge. She adores [Ed: …loves…?] Aaron from the bottom of her heart. Everyone who joined the Scarlet Axe joined because they lost someone dear to them, but her reason for joining the organization isn’t clear…
Borden
Seiyuu: Yousuke Akimoto
“If you’ve harmed anyone in this village, I’ll punish you with my fists!”
He is the village chief of Orosk, and he’s skilled in Kenpo. He’s very energetic, and takes the initiative because he dislikes leaving everything to other people. But this doesn’t mean that he acts before he thinks! He’s earned respect from the villagers [as a result of his initiative and planning].
Yousuke Akimoto says, “Anyway, he’s a hot-blooded guy! Very manly/macho.” (Actually, ムンムン is written here to describe his manliness/machismo, so I guess that makes him a ladies' man when combining it with ムンムン, lol.)
Regius
Seiyuu: Sho Hayami
“There are too many strange things in this world. Have you ever given that a thought?”
A man who strongly desires to learn the truths of the world. He introduces himself as the hero’s strategist. He’s comfortable with using any means necessary to learn the truth. He’s a strategic genius, his might in battle is high, and he even fights on the front lines! According to the writer, he seems a lot like Genso Suikoden II’s Shu.
Hayami, the voice actor, notes: At first, I thought he was like a silent ninja, but he talks endlessly with the hero. (laughs) He seems cool at first glance, but in his body, in his heart, he has a sense of morality. I think he’s honestly a good person.”
Astrid
Seiyuu: Kikuko Inoue
“Look carefully at the world’s truth!”
The woman with ringlets in the middle of the game’s cover illustration. The Holy Aionian Empress who, 200 years ago, was called the Empress General. She’s quite proficient in magic. As the leader of the 2nd Branch, she’s achieved victory in the battle against the Centennial Monster. She is a respected aristocrat, beloved by her people.
Ms Inoue, the voice actress, writes, “As an Empress, she risks her life for her people and tries to protect the world. She’s a very strong woman, but deep down, she has a sweet playful side to her too.”
Maximos Zafir
Seiyuu: Shintaro Asanuma
“If you don’t know, then any foolish thought will do.”
The man with long braided hair in the upper-left of the game’s cover. He was the former leader of the Holy Aionian Empire’s Shining Leaf Knights. Ever since the battle against the Centennial Monster, he’s become Empress Astrid’s guard, at the Emperor’s insistence. He also left behind the Blue Flash style of combat.
Radneen
Seiyuu: Kentaro Yamasaki
“You dare mock Her Majesty Astrid? Do you intend to insult the Holy Aionian Empire itself?!”
He is the one-horned demi-human at the top of the game’s cover art. He is a kenpo user, and is part of the Scaleford tribe. The members of this tribe’s entire bodies are covered with hard scales. He is very successful among this era’s tribe, and has sworn loyalty to Empress Astrid who appointed him.
-Sakiyama (director of GS5) is still there, working on educational games I think. Either that, or he's locked in the same basement that SE's keeping Hiroyuki Ito and Kawazu in.
Oh, that's nice! I'd prefer if he were directing, but since this game seems to be trying to aim higher than Tierkreis, I guess I won't mind that he's in a planner role.Sakiyama was the Lead Planner in Tierkreis. I feel that he may be involved in this new title as well in the same capacity.
I have no idea. I didn't see a dedicated theme for it on the OST. Of course, the OST is quite short. Maybe they might release an Extra album like last time?Do we know if there is any duel fight in this game ?
I am really liking the music I've heard so far. The quality seems just as good as Tiekreis's. In fact, the Frontier Gate OST, which includes the work of two Tierkreis composers, was very good and I ordered my own copy since my bf didn't want me to keep taking his, lol.Wah! Music! This track should have been allowed to be played in full length.
Absolutely love Torwald Albarek's design for some reason.
Formations of six people, yes. But it certainly does not look as fast at all, which is a little disappointing. Its a bit hard to tell, but does it use the Classic Suikoden I/II battle System? I seem formations of 6, which is a good sign.
System – Battle
Six party members can be used in battle. Like the previous games, battles are turn-based. In this game, additional command options such as “hand down” [Ed: this was actually called “tradition” 伝承, but I think “hand down” works better here in context] and “strategy” have been added to the battle menu. In the older Genso Suikoden titles, magic and skills had a set number of times you could use them (think 9/5/3/1); and in the previous game, Tierkreis, they were based on MP. In this game, a completely different magic system will be used. You can use skills by using the energy bar above the HP bar. Detailed information about this system will come at a later date.
System – Party Formation
Much like in previous Genso Suikoden games, you can arrange party members to your liking (ex: I guess this means you can put whomever in your party, and arrange them according to S/M/L). You can also change which characters you are in control of with the △ button [Ed: ? I'd like to see context for that.]. On the formation screen, you can arrange up to 6 characters in two rows of three.
System – Hand Down
By putting heroes of the past/ancestors in your party, other characters will be able to inherit some of their skills/techniques. This is called the “Hand Down” system. It establishes the characters of the past as “Masters”, and the characters of the present as “Students”. During battle, when the Master character uses the "Hand Down" option, the skill's training rate will increase. When it reaches 100%, the student character will be able to inherit the past character's skill.
System – Unite Attack
On the formation screen is the phrase "Double Leader." It’s likely the hero and Torwald's Unite Attack.
System – Magic Effects
Even when stacked up with the rest of the series, the magic effects are a bit of a spectacle
I see. I figured it was going to be a master/student split in the end. That's actually a little unfortunate and reduces the flexibility of creating a team like you could have in the other games.Siliconera said:Dengeki PlayStation explained the latest issue you can further customize characters using the game’s sub job system. At a dinner event in your game’s base you can pick up sub jobs these let you change equipment profiles like giving a mage a bow, for example.
Suikoden: The Woven Web of a Century has a number of classes like lancer, blacksmith, archer, and chemist. The game also has a crafting system where you can create weapons, healing items, and magic stones.
You can bring six characters in battle, three masters and three apprentices. Battles are turn based and revolve around a will, which used after each command. A fixed amount of will is restored after each turn.
There were also new characters announced as well, but I won't translate that part right now.Movement
The actions of going back to your HQ, going back to a dungeon entrance and moving on the world map can be done in one round from the menu screen. It's possible to immediately return from the dungeon.
Quest Status
In one place, you can see the game's progress, like your companions and objectives.
Equipment
There are five slots for equipment:
-Weapon
-Armour
-Shoes
-Ring
-Ring
You may also forge weapons.
Looks interesting enough, is unlikely to see a Western release at least on PSP.
Well, this is certainly new. This game has a job system, apparently.

I don't know how hard this can be for Konami.
1. 2D HD Sprites
2. Vita release
3. 100 + Characters
4. Six People party
5. Autofight function that makes grinding both fun and fast
6. Compelling story that doesn't take itself too seriously, but makes you feel like 'da man'.
So they got rid of "Run/Let Go" in favour of being able to 100% escape battles.Siliconera said:Players will gather the 108 Stars of Destiny through different periods of time. As mentioned previously, your ancestors teach you how to fight and you can learn skills from them similar to Lost Odysseys immortal to mortal skill transfer system. Youll also interact with characters and set up mentors during in-game meals. Dont want to fight? You can escape battles with 100% chance.
Dengeki PlayStation also reports Suikoden: The Woven Web of a Century will have multiple endings for fans to find. Suikoden: The Woven Web of a Century comes out on February 9.
Still don't understand why we haven't seen much gameplay ?

Either they don't care and/or they don't want the game to do well, or they're not very confident in their battle engine or the game itself at all.Still don't understand why we haven't seen much gameplay ?
You said it. :/Doesn't bode well does it![]()

Good marketing (if the game is really bad and they want to sell it on Suikoden name)
or
Bad marketing (game is really good, but Konami's marketing is incompetent)

Konami probably wants the game to bomb so they'll have an excuse for not making Suikoden games anymore

Did you all enjoyed crushing the little hope i have left for this title ?Either they don't care and/or they don't want the game to do well, or they're not very confident in their battle engine or the game itself at all.

1. System: "Hand Down"
It's entirely possible to uncover skills that have been buried in history! Past heroes can hand down their techniques to student characters who have the same job class as them.
Select the "Hand Down" command so that the teacher uses the skill in combat. Each time an ability is used it raises a skills training rate and when it reaches 100% the student character can use the move in battle. In order to use "Hand Down", the teacher and student must have the same job class.
2. Combat
You encounter enemies on the field and engage in turn-based combat with them. [repeats a bit about the "Hand Down" system, but I didn't feel the need to include it here.]
3. 6 Party Members
6-Member Party system is back!
With the familiar "Unite Attack" system, as well as the newly added "Student/Mentor relationship" system, the player can enjoy the battle with a party system that gives them some variety.
4. Party Formation
Characters can be arranged in formations for battle. The player can consider the characteristics of each character (ie: range, I suppose), and then arrange them to be either in the front or rear guard. The characters can be arranged in this 3x3 grid
5. Set Combination Attacks
Characters carry out simultaneous attacks if they are set and linked together.
6. Jobs
There are 8 jobs in all. Warrior, Sorcerer, Lancer, Archer, Ninja, Musician, Alchemist and Monk. Each character learns different techniques depending on their job.
There are other characters who hold the jobs of "magic stone craftsman, blacksmith and "pharmacists" as well.
7. Sub jobs
During the dinner events at the HQ, characters are able to obtain certain sub-jobs. By changing your equipment, you can switch between your job and sub-job.
Konami stopped giving a crap when they saw the Frontier Gate and Beyond the Labyrinth sales numbers! :lolWhy do the first five designs look ok while the others look like flash garbage?
Did you all enjoyed crushing the little hope i have left for this title ?
( maybe i should just change my avatar .. my hype for this game is rising and failing like a electrocardiogram ) and i'm expecting the day where i'll get this game and see the truth ...
New character art. I think I got all of it. Not translating any of this right now, but look at the art. It seems like Konami quit giving a crap halfway through.
That's pretty cool. I've always wanted to get one on my hip (ie: where no one can see it and be shocked that I actually got a tattoo in the first place, lol), but I'm so afraid of needles.I have the Soul Eater rune tattoo'd on my right hand. I look down and get depressed about the situation :x
Looks bad as expected.
