Figure this would be a good place to ask, used to enjoy the odd anime a few years back (Akira, GITS, Patlabor, Ghibli, Bebop) and have recently started to get back into it but have run out of ideas on what to watch, if i post what i have seen and enjoyed (and not enjoyed) recently can anybody suggest anything good?

Liked:

Tokyo Godfathers
Millenium actress
K-ON! (not really a fan of this stuff normally but i enjoyed this for some odd reason)
BECK (really enjoyed this one so anything like this would be awesome)
Appleseed Exmachina
Samurai 7
One Piece (only seen the first few episodes and enjoyedthem but the sheer volume to catch up on is scary)

Not a fan:

Azumanga Daioh (only watched one show but i really didnt get it)
Chobits (my wife loves this kind of thing but it did nothing for me)
Love Hina (same as chobits really)

Sorry for the huge post but have just finished BECK and really enjoyed it so would love something like that

Dantalian no Shoka

Picked this back, as I had stopped watching in the middle of episode 2. Still have some episodes left to go, but I still think it's not a bad show, though it could have been better if Dantalian was voiced by Rie Kugimiya. Every time she is about to start talking, I hear Rie's voice in my head, but then a different voice comes out of her mouth and I'm saddened a bit.
Since I didn't follow sales etc, did it sells enough to justify a sequel be made? Because with the few episodes left, I'm not sure the story could be concluded in a meaningful way.

You rule for these.

Also, check out Detroit Metal City because it is about a guy and his band and it is absolutely hilarious.
You might also like Paprika and Paranoia Agent since you seem to enjoy Satoshi Kon shows. I also think you might enjoy Kino's Journey and Twelve Kingdoms.

Are you forgetting Ramen?!!!

*googles*

Oh, that royally fucked up scene. I forgot most of what happened in the Ai arc because I marathoned those episodes all at once and I think I was half-asleep. Yeah, Junichi's tentacle fantasies in the Sae arc have nothing on that.

Kind of based on your interests try Paprika, Rideback, Baccano, Michiko and Hatchin, and Sword of the Stranger. I make no promises but I'm sure you'd enjoy at least some of these!

Yay lists!

Oh by the way, my roommate who has seen Amagami SS before mentioned something about a questionable scene involving...knees. This is equally as intriguing as the ramen.

One thing about Amagami is that you're guaranteed to leave the show with at least one new fetish that you didn't have before watching it. You've been warned.

I guarantee that anyone who watches it will also come out with a favorite girl too, and feel strongly about her.

I have a friend who went out an bought a Haruka body-pillow after the show aired.

Yeah, the very first arc involving Haruka.

IIRC(rumors?) Itou Shizuka who voices Haruka went out of the room and cried after voicing that scene,I guess it was too much for her.

The Knight in the Area 04: To all the people whining about Brazilians' representation in this anime, fuck you, at least you get represented. Japan apparently played Mexico in a flashback and they showed no one from the Mexican team there. The one time I saw Mexico in a football anime their star was the freaking goalkeeper, like saying Mexico's football is shit*. Fucking Captain Tsubasa.

It's a shame that the direction and animation in this show is still awful, because I'm enjoying the subject matter a lot, even with all the cheese. And Seven is still adorable! Hopefully she gets involved in a match. I wanna see her wearing a cute Nadeshiko Japan shirt.

Re: why U-15? There is not even a U-15 FIFA-sanctioned World Cup. It's not like bumping the characters two years up would make a huge difference in their personalities, and they already look older anyway. Plus it would give them an excuse to play up the sexual tension more.

*It is, but that's not the point.

One thing about Amagami is that you're guaranteed to leave the show with at least one new fetish that you didn't have before watching it. You've been warned.

Swimsuits that show the backside. I don't know if I should post the pic. Ah, fuck it...

Perfect Blue

What a fantastic film. Satoshi Kon's love of blurring the lines between reality and fantasy works perfectly with the material he's dealing with: the idol business, which is all about turning a real person into an imaginary persona. It works both as a commentary on how producers, fans, and idols themselves react when that disconnect between the created and the original becomes apparent, and as a taut psychological thriller. The direction is top notch throughout, with lots of little careful touches. The opening sequence is brilliant in first setting up the disparity between the imagined and the real with the stage performance of a different kind of celebrity, sentai heroes, and then seemlessly moving the camera from that to a variety of different fans milling outside, each of which slowly gives us more information on our protagonist and her situation, as well as the makeup of her followers. I could go into great detail, but I'll leave at the Internet, television screens, fish, and mirrors.
The ending caught me by surprise but made perfect sense, which is the best kind of ending.

Other people have given you plenty of good suggestions, so I'll just say if you liked Tokyo Godfathers and Millennium Actress, be sure to check out Kon's first film, Perfect Blue, which I commented on above. Also, I'll link the standard two threads I link to everyone looking for recommendations, as they're good sources for digging into classic and recent anime.

This is amazing if true. I must rewatch that scene and listen for even the faintest hint of repulsion or horror in her voice.

Also, for those with a little knowledge of the game that Amagami is adapted from,
why did they skip some of the fetish scenes from the game? I thought there were others like Rihoko's feet, Ai's armpits, and maybe other "Junichi licks X body part" stuff. I could be totally wrong, though.

And fuck must I seem creepy for even knowing this.

Holy crap thats allot of replys in a short amount of time

Thanks again for all the suggestions here, didnt expect this big a response this quickly :)

Also, since you seem to have a thing for music-themed anime, be sure to get hyped as fuck for the new Watanabe show Sakamichi no Apollon, just like the rest of us. You might also want to check out Nodame Cantabile.

Okay motherfuckers, you've convinced me. Should I watch Amagami first or jump straight into SS?

Amagami SS is the first one. SS plus is the new shit.

It's embarrassingly hilarious. It made me laugh and want to curl up in a ball and die at the same time. Its effects may vary on you.

When I saw it I just had a look on my face not unlike Koyomi's in your avatar. There is nothing else like the knee scene in all of anime.
