Mass Effect 3 Demo Impressions [Online Open To All]

wow I had no idea that clicking the left stick was how to move to different sides of cover. This makes everything so much easier!

Fair enough. But I think it is unfair for someone to be labeled a Bioware fanboy/apologist/etc if they do enjoy the story/dialogue or the other things people here are dismissing.

Really not that different from being labeled "hater" when there's specific stuff you don't like. Funny how that works.

just tell me now....did they at least increase on screen text size or put in the option to increase text size? I dont really want to go through another squint fest.

going to download the demo tonight. is the x360 version much better than ps3? was thinking of trying it out on ps3 first since i have a ps3 in my bedroom .....

does anyone know where i can check to see if i have the unlocks for the ME3/Amalur demos? i played through the ME3 demo this morning but i didn't notice any unlocks pop up. I could have missed it but it would be nice to check a site to see if i really do have them.

When you start up Amalur it will give you a quest to check the chest in the first town. I believe the quest is called Special Delivery.

I thought it was really dark too. Even after increasing the gamma a bit in options.

It might just be the grain filter. I never noticed a big impact with it in ME1, but ME2 on PS3 was like dimming the lights ingame.

Plus, I didn't see an option in the demo to turn it off, so I'm guessing its auto-enabled.

I disagree with that choice, I always enjoyed holstering weapons and lookign around the enviroment.

It is almost game-ruining to me. It really shows how Bioware has completely dismissed Mass Effect's exploratory nature and rather prioritize "visceral" combat - by removing the ability to rotate the camera and take in the environment, and instead selecting the ability to melee or roll or whatever.

It's completely ridiculous that they haven't let the holster command stay in the PC version, if the reason really is memory budget. (and if it is, Uncharted 3, Arkham City, Skyrim, Assassin's Creed etc. have a ton of animations and asset complexity, which the 360 apparently is able to handle.)

Ugh, playing the PS3 demo right now and the framerate is aggravating. This is flat-out laziness on Bioware's part. And even if they don't want to take the time and get it running better, at least scale down the graphics so that it is playable. COME ON.

Wow that sucks. Glad I am buying the 360 version.

Did ME2 have any issues on PS3?

I found the 360 framerate pretty bad too. The PC framerate is awesome, though.

So you either have shit framerate and gamepad, or great framerate and keyboard + mouse.

Thankfully i'm good with keyboard + mouse or else i'll be mad like some of GAF.

Man, I really need to download the PC demo. I don't remember ME2 performance being so poor on the 360 so I tried that demo first just so I could lay back on the couch while playing.

But I can't let that framey, stuttery experience be my only time with this game before launch.

Probably the worst running animation I have ever seen. I found out that if you stand in front of Anderson during those running sequences he will push you all the way there.

YES! I had the same thing happen to me when I played through the demo haha.

I think any 'PC gamer' is fine with the M&K option. In some games I bounce back and forth. Skyrim for example. I use the controller for melee character when using third person. With my archer, it's definitely M&K.

With ME2 & 3 I could prob go either way so it's fine with me, but I'm more of a PC gamer than a console gamer but since I play a lot of both, I'm as equally comfortable with both.

It had issues but it was as good as the 360 version for the most part. Its unfortunate to see such a bad PS3 version with ME3. It is a demo of course, but expecting the final version to magically be up to par would be far fetched if you ask me, considering how bad this is.

you can still play with a gamepad either way. I didn't notice any issues with the framerate on 360.

just got through it on ps3. did i miss the inventory? it shouldve been the up option in the menu but something else was there. also its been awhile since i played me2 or 1.. but how could i take a medi-gel? i couldnt figure out a button.

anyway i had fun for what that's worth. for all the changes this series has, lifting an enemy and then throwing has been fun in all three games.

Who's idea was it to put that first part in the demo, that was the worst ever, also sprinting on the side skyscapers, wtf, I know the game will be awesome but that first area of the demo, jeez, come on man, this is ME!

Well this sounds bad, I was hoping to have the PS3 as an option for the free online.

At least I don't have to hold the spacebar to run during that part. Haha, I hope that's in the final game.

Yeah. the PC demo is mad smooth. Check it out.

It's pretty sloppy in comparison to the PC version, which is buttery smooth.

Haven't noticed any framerate issues at all on the 360 personally.

Edit: Some slight stutter in a few cutscenes.

I thought this demo was absolutely hysterical. Framerate on 360 is awful. They're trying so hard to be epic and failing miserably. You can actually hear the voice actors rolling their eyes while they speak their lines. Not only did none of my dialogue choices matter but Shepard didn't even bother to say any of the lines I chose, not even the proper tone. That kid's dialogue and voice acting...oh my god, someone call M Night Shamalyan and let them know he has a contender. Spoiler Alert: he's imaginary and Shepard when he/she was a kid.

The wack-a-mole combat, and the hilarious b movie enemies. Explosions where all you hear are glass shattering. Running on a ledge that you can't drop out of. The extreme linearity. The total fakeness of the whole scenario...the planet is being destroyed and it has about as much impact on the player emotionally as a kid kicking down a sand castle.

How does Bioware do such a magnificently hilarious satire on modern gaming and keep such a straight face? I couldn't do it.

2012 and still have to be worried for PS3 versions of games. WTF Bioware? the gen is ending and all.. making PS3 games shouldn't be that hard at this point.

seriously, is the PS3 version clearly worse than ME2 framerate-wise? because i played ME2 on PS3 and thought it was ok overall, no regrets. but the framerate was kinda iffy, i remember thinking that if it was any worse it would greatly annoy me. so is it obviously worse in ME3?

i'm not gonna try the demo myself because i want nothing spoiled. i'm just trying to decide whether to get the game for my PC or PS3.. leaning towards PS3 because of my ME2 save and dualshock.

harsh but you have a point.

i think on a large scale level, it was a bad move to make the disastrous invasion of earth into a tutorial level. that informs so much of the presentation of that segment.

if it occurred later in the game and didn't have to hold your hand, it could feel so much more epic
