Jeremy Lin: Asian American, Harvard Grad... NBA great?

I don't get why this is getting so much media attention. Unknown players have a stretch of good games from time to time in all sports.

IMO his race does have a great effect but I think it has to do with the fact that the Knicks were down their two best players and were still down a PG. To see some random player who has been cut twice suddenly thrive (and still is) is a happy story from any point of view. I hope he keeps it up. I sort of want a Lin jersey :lol

Unknown players might have a good game or two, but they don't typically play key roles in 7-game win streaks. Plus, this particular unknown has a great story behind him, has a perfect image/character, and most importantly, appeals to a HUGE market.

As a fellow Taiwanese, I'm really happy for his success and what it means for Asians as a whole. He's shown that he has the skills to be pretty good, but we should at the very least wait until the season's over before we start making big statements. I'm curious to see if he can perform at a high level for the rest of his career. I'll be the first to say that calling him "great" is ridiculous, but if you don't understand why he's getting so much attention, you're naive to many things.

i guess its a little more than good games. The media attention probably has more to do with him being on the knicks though.

So weird, wasn't she all up on Tebow just weeks earlier? She got a thing for Christian atheletes all of a sudden?

I know Katy Perry made a run at Tebow.

Honest question: If he dated a non-asian, would it hurt his popularity with people within the Asian community?

With Asian women maybe.

He should act all Chinese and fob-ish and only speak Chinese just to fuck with her on the date

That might turn Kim on more. Everybody knows its the foreign Chinese that have the cash.

Kardashian has big plans this quarter to increase revenue and marketshare by making a play for the untapped China market.

lol, she don't need cash. She needs SALVATION. Maybe she thinks fucking a Christian man will get her some points toward heaven.

I actually think she just wants what's 'now.' When it was Tebow, she wanted Tebow. Now it's Lin? She wants in. SMH

This is my fave Kim pic:

What charity event is she at exactly?
Nicole Brown Simpson's

Oh my.

Why? I imagine he'd get huge respect amongst asian men for going where no one assumed an asian man would ever be. CTB what would you think of him?

Asian males in Hawaii mate with white girls at a fairly decent rate. Mainland Asians need to step up their game.

I am Linsane.

What are Filipinos supposed to do? Most "real" Asians don't consider them to be Asians, and they're constantly ranked the most discriminated against by other Asians.
Being a Filipino, I've always identified more as a pacific islander than an "Asian" but it's all just semantics to me

I was talking to my Filipino friend about this.

He places blame on the Phillipines and how much they don't seem to care back at home. They are happy doing what they are doing now. He says it makes him mad. But he doesn't perceive his people having the same drive as other nationalities in Asia.

As for identification, I put them in Asian-Americans, as far as the US is concerned.

Hey Filipinos are the black people of Asia as per Chappelle after all.

Asian male/Non-Asian female is pretty rare. He'd get some respect.

Its like seeing a Leprechaun. Seriously, I live in Seattle and its weird. Its common to see the inverse (or is it the converse?), Asian Female/Non-Asian Male, but whenever I see the opposite I do a double take sometimes. And its funny when I'm walking down the street and I make eye contact with these guys, its almost like they're giving me a secret high five. I just nod and laugh to myself.

But yeah maybe Kim wants to run a private pick and roll with her basketballs.

Every time I saw this thread, I thought it was referring to the guy from Jeepers Creepers & the Apple ad's. A sort of OT. I heard a radio show this morning about the guy, and it isn't the same person at all.

Thought I'd share.

Yes you are.

Ramon Session never scored as much as Lin and didn't win 7 straight in the biggest media market where basketball hasn't been relevant for a decade.

Mike James was a loser. So was Darren Collison.

I'll add a few more names. Bobby Sura. Dan Dickau. Sundiata Gaines.

These guys weren't winners. They didn't have the narrative like Lin who was literally about to be cut from the team. They didn't have 2 of their biggest stars injured and turn the team completely around. They don't have the underdog story from high school, college, and NBA.

"the guy is a winner" aka "I don't know shit about basketball so I will use a stupid label to describe him." this is how the media views sports - guy plays on a shitty team, so he's a loser. he gets traded or his team signs some better players and they start winning. suddenly he's a winner. nevermind the fact that he has made very little adjustments to his game or improved marginally at best (or in some cases gotten worse). it's bullshit. there are good players and bad players. lin's a decent player who is on a hot streak at the moment. it's a nice story, but completely undeserving of the attention it's gotten. you are right that part of the reason the story is good is because he was undrafted and was only sticking around in the league due to his excellent showings in tryouts and summer league. another reason for the coverage is because it's NY. another is because his success has come with melo and amare out (and people think melo and amare are good players - lol). and another is because he's not a black man. in conclusion, fuck you and the media. I am sick of all the hyperbolde surrounding this kid.

Rare on TV maybe.

In 2008, of new marriages including an Asian man, 80% were to an Asian spouse and 14% to a White spouse; of new marriages involving an Asian woman, 61% were to an Asian spouse and 31% to a White spouse. Asian Americans of both genders who are U.S.-raised are much more likely to be married to Whites than their non-U.S.-raised counterparts. A 1998 Washington Post article states 36% of young Asian Pacific American men born in the United States married White women, and 45% of U.S.-born Asian Pacific American women took White husbands during the year of publication.

In terms of sheer percentages, Asian men marry white women at a much higher rate than any other non-whites.

If you compare the number of asian men getting married to asian women there is a pretty big gap. I'm not going to do the math, but 61% of asian women get married to asian men, but 80% of asian men get married to asian women means not a lot of asian men are getting married compared to asian women. The number of asian guys getting married to white women is decent as a percentage, but small overall.

Men: 80% to 14%
Women: 61% to 31%

dude better be careful or he might have to get some linical testing done.

Ha.

Her plan when she moved to NY was originally to date a Knick (Danilo Galinari), when he said he wasn't down for anything serious, that's when she set her sites on Humphries. Poor Jeremy, she would chew him up and spit him out in 3 months and get it all on camera.

Um, 14% of all married Asian men in the US are married to white women, that's a lot. Who cares if Asian women marry white men even more? The point was to shatter the myth that Asian men don't get white women, they do, much more successfully than any other minority.

Also, 14% includes Asian men who are immigrants. That rises to 36% if the Asian man was born in America.

No other minority men marry white women at such a high percentage.
