Winter 2012 Anime Thread 2.22: You Can (Not) Outpost Cajunator

So I guess practically no-one wants to talk about Sky Crawlers huh? Y'all suck.
This is the necessary process; you make a thread, we all wait one year or more, at this moment you reference the thread one more time complaining about the lack of responses, and then... sudden explosion!

We could call that the 'Angel's Egg effect', if you want.

I didn't really have many problems with the movie from what I remember. The one thing was that it kinda felt... I dunno, lifeless? Like I didn't really feel anything for the characters.
That was the point, it was a success in dullness! Good work and all... and now seriously;
the contention of feelings as a result of the endless cycle, and how the jaded characters cope with that in a distant way to not hurt themselves more in the process makes you, I think, more wary of the little details. How, by the end of the movie, you see more reactive conflict between them makes the moments more powerful, to later in it continue with the same routine, but at the same time the subtle differences makes it worthy. I think this movie benefits from several viewings...

I didn't know the doujin is this well-known. Admittedly I like its art though.
Man, now it even has its own banner at 4Chan! Unstoppable work...

I just watched Castle of Cagliostro for the first time in ages and it was a delightful experience. I'd love some recommendations of more 1980s anime.

edit: I guess it came out in 1979, but you get the idea.
RINTARŌ's HARMAGEDON Genma Wars (HARMAGEDON 幻魔大戦), 80's Japanese animation through and through.

However, I'd have liked to see more positive reviews of this series of KADOKAWA Entertainment old properties' Blu-ray releases. Pretty discouraging...

Nisemonogatari 7

I... didn't really like this episode. I would say, objectively speaking, it was a decent episode overall, but something I can't quite put my finger on was lacking. Also, the
fanservice scene
was utterly pointless. All I was thinking was, "why, SHAFT?". At least in previous episodes,
like the bath scene with Shinobu, there's a decent explanation, and something important to the show is going on as well. with Kanbaru, again, there was more than just fanservice going on. here, there was a 2 second pan over naked yuri sisters, and that was it. I think this is the first time the fanservice in Nise has really just been entirely extravagant. Sure, shinobu was pushing it in previous episodes, but the context for those scenes was different.

Come on,
there's no good reason the episode 4 scene between Araragi and Shinobu had to take place in his bathroom. The nudity was not relevant to any part of the story. It could have just as easily taken place in his bedroom, with both of them completely clothed, and nothing of value would have been lost.

That's true,
the fanservice was unecessary as well in the bathroom. However, in the bath room scene, we did have the conversation between ararararagi and Shinobu, so the scene wasn't only fanservice. with the yuri sisters, it was pure fanservice. that's all I'm saying!

Well, SHAFT isn't the sole responsible of that scene, they are making a faithful adaptation. I understand the reactions, and the problem comes when you make such close adaptation of something that in paper it only would have been suggestive for the imagination of the reader. That is why the explicitness of the translation makes it distracting in a direct approach.

Are you speaking of Amazon jp reviews and the like? Ignore those, those people are sorta crazy. There are negative reviews of the beautiful 6K Ghibli transfers there, and nearly every Bandai Visual/Honneamise title. They're allergic to film grain or something.

Can't speak for Kadokawa's transfers though.

So it looks like the Sunrise Idolmaster ripoff is due to air next year, they better not have that CGI shit mixed in with the animation in the actual anime, save that for the precure Eds.

Just gimme my real Miku anime alreadyyyy

BRAVO!

If only we all had random character heads shoped onto shirtless Touga/Akio as avatars, AnimeGAF would be a better place.
I got into Ikuhara for the hot sailor scouts. I stayed for the Akio.

Wow, that really is an Idolmaster ripoff, only uglier. How lame.

You are right... the issue is that I haven't found any trusty enough review of them to take the definitive step in purchasing. Have you seen any of those releases? I was also interested on the Five Star Stories one.

Oh! Now I've seen your post edit, nevermind then...

He clearly views AnimeGAF as PEDO-GAF, or I'm guessing he views quite a lot of us as such. :/

I don't get it, he's asking for sci fi movies specifically, which automatically filters out fanservice trash.

And if I reccomended that new furry movie, I wonder what he'd think.

I wonder how they'd make that into a story though. :/ We've seen what happens when BRS turns into a TV anime. *sobs*
It's really not that difficult. Make it some stupid contrived shit about Miku's AI getting inserted into a chobit >> Miku gets into the real pop idol industry >> RIVALRIES >> to be or not to be? >> the power of anisong >> yay moé antics

It is that easy, but today's creators don't seem to think so. :/ Lots of stuff is needlessly contrived for no reason.

Everyone not in AnimeGAF views us as PedoGAF, he just happened to actually say it.

That said, I don't think that insulting the people that you're seeking recommendations from and generally being ragingly ignorant about the subject is a particularly effective way of getting help from those people. He's obviously just tsundere for anime. "It's n-n-not like I actually want recommendations, you pedos! Don't misunderstand!"

I thought PedoGAF insults were specifically directed towards SNSDGAF (which I never got).

I always thought that it had to do with people who watch things like Hannah Montana and iCarly. Either way, "anime is for pedos" is a classic go-to statement for non-fans so I don't doubt that we're lumped in with the nefarious shadow organization that is PedoGAF for most GAFfers.

Hey, RurouniZel! How are you liking the new MikuMikuDance Tda MIKU Append model?

Just checked up on Five Star Stories. Looks great to me.
Thanks for the link, pizzaroll! Looking very good, indeed! For some reason I didn't searched on their forums, when it should be the first stop for anyone interested on importing.

I have heard the anime is a poor representation of the manga. I'll try the anime one day, but right now I'm steering clear of it.
Mr. Nagano (as with many things) wasn't very involved on it. Is also fairly condensed and was left as an incomplete project, but it is interesting on its own, and visually cool.

As a huge fan of the manga, I'd say it's worth the purchase.
It's visually stunning (not as much as the manga, but then again, pretty much nothing is), and it'll get you hyped up for the manga.

I think the model is extremely well made. However I'm not as big a fan of the Miku Append design as I am the original. It may grow on me though, only time will tell.
