Enjoyable movie. I like watching old anime movies where the backgrounds look nice and detailed. I also liked it when the MC kept acting like an asshole to some of the animals.

Takahata is continuously proving that he is a top tier director
.

Have you watched Grave of the Fireflies and Pom Poko? It's certainly quicker to watch those than his lengthy tv shows.

The pacing is slow indeed (as an episode is getting into gear, it ends), but I'm really liking it.
Until now I felt Marika calling her mom by name to be weird, so
it gave me a nice feeling to hear her call her mom "mom" in episode 5.
The confrontation that's been built up until now has been cool as well.
Onto episode 6.

I can't watch shows like Pom Poko because it's 100% talking animals. I hate how much talking animals are used. Maybe Pom Poko is actually a fun movie because it is made by a good director. But no, I can't watch talking animals without a human lead, or where the talking animals are secondary side characters.

I hate how much talking animals are used in the west. Every 3d movie has some sort of talking animal. I hate all the animal personification, and how some people even grow sexually attracted to human-esque animal-thing cartoons. I hate how humans are depicted as bad guys in movies like shrek. And I kind of just hate animals, I put those things in my mouth.

Enviornmentalism is cool, I loved Castle in the Sky and Nausicaa. There were humans interacting with animals + plant life in both, but they acted like actual animals. Ponyo had talking animals, so did totoro, but all of the characters were secondary to human concern.

Making values not to hurt animals is okay, but please do so in the human perspective. There is a large disconnect between me and shrek and whatever human headed animal thing is talking.

I was prepared to hate him but Kou actually brings up a good point. Battles are no time for speeches.

Oh did you get around to watching the original SDFM? Or you haven't seen the TV series but have watched the movie?
If you're dying for a mecha show, maybe. Having read the manga, I feel they botched the best moments of it.
Manga > Anime??
I am sure my
multiple
votes were the only meep it got! :S
I added some Gosick here and there too.

I blame Ano Hana and Penguin Drumsticks for hypnotizing the masses!

I voted Nichijou, I'm not even that fond of the show, but I figure it would benefit those who appreciate it. I did vote Penguins though
and Secret Base

Maybe you should watch Hajime no Ippo.
Well, I've seen Rocky and I don't think Apollo and Rocky ever feel each other up in the showers.
They also compare dick-sizes like all good bros do?
Crossing swords, eh?
Shit, I think you just identified a gap in the market. Surely there is some way we can exploit this? Tell me where to invest!
CLAMP's offices are this way!

Ano Natsu 7: Best show ever. Somehow they managed to top last week's episode, which I thought would be impossible.

Also, on a more serious note, I thought it was a nice bit of foley work when
Kai tries to kiss Ichika and their glasses clack together
. Been there, and it's kind of awkward. It can be a mood killer or a tension killer, depending on how you're feeling at the time.

Like I said, I can't think of an anime where guys bathe each other and then start feeling each other's man-boobs. When girls bathe, they feel each other up. When guys bathe, they look for the peep-hole so they can see girls feeling each other up.
Who wants to touch a fat man's boobs anyway

Just give it time. It starts out so promising too.

It does indeed. Poor, poor soul watching this for the first time.

Gintama 247

I loved this arc. Total laughing meltdown when
they arrested Gin for being the White Yasha. I never realized those guys didn't knew it and I guess it was the intended effect >D

Have you seen Babylon?

I haven't seen it yet. Only the two first films (coincidentally, the green jacket ones), apart from all the series and some TV specials that are more easy to obtain here than the later movies because of problems derived from license retention by uninterested companies and such. A sad situation, really, because the character is still really famous in Spain (after all, the Italian influence that came through MEDIASET's channel was very heavy).

I don't know if I want to see Babylon or not. I've pretty much seen every other Lupin movie / special (Fuma is my favourite by far), so it feels kind of odd to miss it out. It's just that I've heard so many bad things about Babylon in the past, it's really put me off watching it. Maybe I'll brave through it at some point... I'm hoping it's one of those things where I feel "actually, it wasn't so bad after all."
As pizzaroll with Seijun Suzuki involvement in Legend of the Gold of Babylon, I was also specially interested in The Fuma Conspiracy because of the, apparently, very heavy presence of Yasuo 'Mr. Jeep' Ōtsuka's personal animation style in that movie. I've seen opinions stating how dynamic and spectacular is the animation in it (those car chases scenes included, of course) and for that is the movie from the franchise I'm interested the most in viewing right now, and now seeing that is your favorite one makes me more eager to watch it.

I'm a big fan of the old cyberspace stuff and chibi Ruri is pretty adorable. One of my all-time episodes of Nadesico.

Speaking of Sentai, Infinite Stratos may be well and dead in Japan but the BD is still coming out in the US and the dub cast has been listed. Here's the core six:

Ichika – Josh Grelle
Houki – Monica Rial
Charles – Shannon Emerick
Cecilia – Brittney Karbowski
Lingyin – Hilary Haag
Laura – Tiffany Grant

with the other announced roles found here.
Looks like I'll have to give this show another shot. On the topic of Cecilia, I've yet to hear Brittney Karbowski voice a British character, so I'm sort of weary as to how that will turn out. On the other hand, Josh Grelle really impressed me with Baka and Test as his performance as Yoshii was spot-on so I think he'll be fine as Ichika.

Do you notice how, in anime, it's always the white guys who are brusque and boastful, while the african/south american/south-asian guys are always serious and formal?

Damn, I'm actually somewhat enjoying a romantic comedy series. I suppose it help that they're keeping the plot developments coming at a comfortable pace after episode 4.

So Mio's plotline went exactly where everyone was expecting, and she gets extra points for being the first of the main characters to actually confess to someone. I was disappointed they didn't follow up at all with Kanna's drunken cockblocking of Kaito and Ichika, but from the look of the preview hopefully they'll deal with that next week.

Regardless of anything, Lemon is still the best character.

CLAMP's offices are this way!

CLAMP only lets characters feel up each others pecs when it's a prelude to ripping their hearts out or similar. Fanservice shows might be a lot more tolerable if that were the case, but I'm not sure the comparison is apt...

So guys, why does April have such a huge selection of anime compared to March/February/January?

Anime tends to air in seasonal blocks as you may know - January, April, July and October are the traditional starting points for these. For whatever reason, April and October are the "big" seasons. I've always assumed it's something to do with the weather - who wants to watch cartoons in July when you could be out in the incredibly humid Japanese summer, I guess - but for whatever reason, April always brings a glut of new anime.

Some of them are even tolerable!

Ano Natsu de Matteru 07:

After the events of the last episode, the movie shoot continues but the atmosphere is awkward. Not surprising, but well played out.

But man, no one could ever accuse Remon of not being a (mostly) straight shooter,
basically telling Kanna that she should be able to tell who Kaito likes just by looking. Cooooooold as ice, but completely honest. But then, the Dynamite Drinks RETURN!!!
I feel bad for Tetsuro, that Arisawa is frickin' unbelievable, and apparently has godly stamina. o_O
Also, I REALLY REALLY like how unlike every other anime ever, when Mio asks Tetsuro to hide her "secret" of going commando, and he feigns ignorance, she ACTUALLY UNDERSTANDS HE'S FEIGNING IGNORANCE and just thanks him rather than blurting out whatever embarrassing thing it is.
Almost everything about this show's writing (thus far) has been very honest, which I bloody love!! <3

So Ichika and Kaori meet up and
tells Ichika she was rejected. Meanwhile Mio actually stands up to Arisawa in her own way by refusing to let her drag Tetsuro wherever she wants. Though Arisawa throws back that she's an exhibitionist. But then she confirms as we've basically known for a while that she's a nudist. Nice to have that actual confirmation, as I've been kinda wondering why they kept showing that. Probably raised like that by her family or something. Or gotta sell dem BDs. Or both.

Kaori reveals that she had infact been rejected by a guy she liked in her hometown, and came to Okinawa to try and help get over it, and ended up substituting Kaito in his place to make herself feel better. And the reason she was crying when Kaito rejected her was because the guy she liked said basically the same thing. Ouch, poor poor Kaori!

Remon, you're awesome in a kind of evil way at times. o_O Getting poor Kanna all drunk! >_< But you put her in a kimono so I forgive you! And yep, like I thought it was a family thing that Mio's a nudist. As usual, Tetsuro's a total bro. Wish I knew people like that in my life. I'd like to think I'm that kind of person, but I'm probably not. :/

WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! MIO YOU DID IT!! GO GIRL!! YOU TELL HIM YOUR FEELINGS!! WOOOOOOOOOOO!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Kaito and Ichika discuss Kaori and feels bad for knowing something was amiss but not knowing how to ask. and... and....

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!
KAITO RIGHT NOW YOU ARE WHAT EVERY ANIME PROTAG SHOULD BE!!!!! WOOOOO!!!

And then Kanna.... HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!

WHY ISN'T IT NEXT WEEK YET!!!!!!!!!

I'd rate it higher than Cagliostro, but that's just me. :) I picked up the (fantastic) Discotek DVD release from eBay for about £10. There's a lengthy car chase around the middle of the movie that's just crazy over the top fun, I love it. The only downside with Fuma is the lack of original voice actors and music. IIRC, they spent so much of the budget on the animation they had to replace them with more cost effective alternatives. Granted, they still do a fantastic job. The animation just cannot be matched, though. It blew me away the first time watching it, and that was only last year! Would be interesting to hear what you think, if you ever get around to seeing it.

Monsha would be an unlikable twat regardless of origin and/or skin color, I'm sure.

You're right it does seem to be something of an anime trope. I can't think of a good reason for it though.

Okay here's the problem with killing someone off in episode 1/2.

It doesn't work because there's no emotional attachment at all. The main character is emo, the audience just sit there and wonders why. You can't expect the audience to empathize with the loss of a person they don't know/care about

So it ends up being a lot of useless wangst.

Unless of course you kill off every single character in the first episode. I find that to be pretty effective but there aren't many series that do it :(

The part with the

is the best part.

Or possibly the

I dunno, maybe you're telling the story from the ending; hooking the audience with the demise of the main character.

I would be shocked if Sunrise had the talent to do that.

I remembered Grave of the Fireflies after writing that post so I admit it was a bit shortsighted. Although to be fair there's no way I can expect that level of storytelling from most animes.

I am about twenty minutes into REDLINE right now. Amazing art.

I'll never understand why people do this. Are you telling me that after watching 20 minutes of a movie, you literally pause it, just to go tell people that you're 20 minutes into a movie and it SUPER R0XX0RZ? Would you also take out your phone in the cinema during a movie just to tweet about how AMAZING an action scene is while watching it? :/

There are people who do exactly that.

Part of the enjoyment of watching anime comes from talking about it with everyone else. For some, it's really a social activity, especially here in AnimeGAF.

It's not unreasonable that people are tempted to liveblog their anime-watching experiences.

The two aren't the same thing though. I don't take out my phone while I'm in a theater because I'm trying to be polite to everybody around me. I don't have to worry about that while watching at home, thankfully.

Nise 7

Crazy assed fight scene (once again I say that the action scenes make this show/series) which leads to a pretty cool resolution, which leads to more Kaiki awesome, which leads to a rather surprising moment of character from Senjou (honestly, I'm surprised no one said as much about her wanting the dramatics before), which then goes into a full awkward scene of the fire sisters sleeping together.

...

Just another episode of Nise it seems. :lol
