Vinland Saga is the closest I can think of that has a similar "vibe" but if what you are saying is true then indeed such a shame that no mangaka wants to tackle "real" pirates as a subject for their work.

Asked earlier but never got an answer...is Ghost in the Shell as a manga worth reading? Just watched the movie and it was really good.

The manga is much better, but the movie has a more refined art style. You get a lot of extra info on the technology in the manga. It's really good.

Read the manga, it's a different experience, but it's not bad. Plus, it's just 1 volume, if you're only interested in what you saw in the first movie. Otherwise it's just 3 volumes (1, 1.5, 2). It's not a big time investment even if you end up not liking it compared to the movie.

The problem with the rape scenes in Wolf Guy is that it's completely contrast to the entire message/point of the manga. The manga consistently tells us as humanity is fucked up and wolves are superior, because humans rape. The problem with this is that if you pay close attention to the rape scenes, all of them are drawn to look like shots out of a pornography film and the main female that gets raped all the time is intentionally and deliberately ideal sexually attractive. Also, rape happens too frequently for that message to get across properly.

Well we are 1 volume in and it's been three years since Asano started so I wouldn't hold my breath. His main focus now is Punpun. On a related note if you haven't read Asano's other manga just do that. They are all sooooo good.
