Jeremy Lin: Asian American, Harvard Grad... NBA great?

Ok. I really respect what Jeremy Lin's done in the last couple of weeks. He's really broken out of the typical stereotype that Asians can't compete in today's NBA. With that said, I'm getting a little tired of places like ESPN constantly talking about the guy. I just checked out the NBA section and there are five freaking headlines about him. I'd really like to know what else is going on in the league besides where he lives now. :| Over saturation or is it just me?
Just like all the other instances where ESPN overhypes any news story they can, yes.

If they beat the Heat tonight and Lin has another great game, they mine as well erect a statue of Lin over the weekend. It'll suck the air out of any other sports going on for the foreseeable future.

I'll admit. I bought a Lin jersey.

It'll go well with my Misaka jersey.

You just started watching hoops didn't you? LBJ shut down one of the fastest PGs in the game last season in the playoffs... Actually if when LBJ gives a shit he is a scary defender.. Lin is balling but he is no speed demon...

So it is going to be Lebron? Nobody answers the questions - unless it is Joel Anthony.

Perfect example of what's wrong with that team and a lot of the NBA. More upset about someone else getting the spotlight than they are focused on winning the game. Let Lin score 50 if the Heat win who cares. Oh that's right all the prima madonnas on that team upset about not being the feature story for once....
What's wrong with being competitive and having some pride? Its not like they said "I don't give a fuck, I'm dropping 30 win or lose"

There are much worse quotes you can hunt down and dig up if that's what you want to do.

i'd answer this seriously.
but then again, your posting history doesn't warrant one.
carry on. feel the heat. fight the power.

yeah, how dare those athletes be competitive.

will you guys stop falling for this troll? its getting quite tedious now. learn about astrolad.

My suggestion is that the Knicks employ a big brother little brother offense. Lin needs to give Tyson the ball and he's gonna dunk it.

Let Lin win.

hail to the king
Lets see what is to be stoked.

People who grew up worshiping Allen Iverson will never appreciate a player like Lin.
What about the people who 'worshiped' Tim Duncan, Hakeem, and Stockton? Take all the subtle bullshit out of it - and AI was still arguably one of the best players to play the game pound for pound. He should get the respect he deserved for it too. I could give a fuck about what a guy does in his time off. You want a role model? Grab a history book and look for a real one.

actually, the Heat dont mind not being in the spotlight, especially with their winning streak. I read an article on this a few days ago, they were content to take a backseat to Linsanity, takes a bit of the pressure off them, being the widely reviled team that they are.
but whatever, ramble on about "prima madonnas" and "rappers vibes" if you want.
edit:I'm convinced people with your mindset should stick to watching college ball, for the sake of everyone's sanity.

What about them? Like I said, people who idolized a me-first chucking felon are unlikely to appreciate a team-first guy who doesn't release albums about faggot tendencies in his spare time. Two different types of fans. That's all.

edit: entrement put it more succinctly.

The NBA is strange. You have people who want guys like Duncan to have more of an edge personality wise, but then you have those who are put off by swagger. Can't please everyone.

spoken like someone who isnt a fan of basketball. I like how you imply that being a fan of an undersized guy like Ivy busting his ass night in and night out means you cant appreciate a Steve Nash, a Chris Paul or or a J-Ki...ah shit, Kidd's a felon too...

this is funny because Lin shoots just as much as iverson

He "busted his ass" to score as many points as he could and never won a title. Remember when he shot less than 40% for a season? Twice? That was awesome. Like entrement said, some people appreciate good team play, other people appreciate swagger. There's probably some overlap but not much.

A bad shot by Iverson was better than a good shot by his teammates on those Sixer teams.

Because AI in those years had two of the top offensive players in the league on his team while he did that.

Er... because he had two guys who averaged over 16ppg when he did that.

Um... because the next best player was Glenn Robinson?

And yeah. busting his ass. Because most players wouldn't even bother showing up if they had the injuries that AI did. But I guess that was because of all the jewelry weighing him down.

yeah, you dont what the hell you're talking about.
In his Philly days with Larry Brown, who was the other go to guy on that team? Mutumbo? lol.
Oh, and from 2000 until his trade to the Nuggets he averaged 5 to 8 assists per game and a couple steals every night on the defensive end. who cares about your hang ups with Ivy's personal life, the guy was all balls and adrenaline. it's not surprising his personal life was out of control, it takes a certain type of crazy to play the way that man did, lol.

other people appreciate swagger.
Other just dont give a fuck and appreciate good athletes. You know, the one's not looking for a Boy Scout of America in their professional athletes.

But how could we know since Alley-Me was a black hole?

It's hard for anyone to score over 16ppg when one guy's heaving up 25+ shots a game. Yeah, he was good about whining about his injuries and hamming it up, no doubt about that. Although if he gave a shit about his conditioning he might not have been injured so much in the first place.

And people wonder why the NBA thread 'isn't welcoming'
