Solanin 1-20

Sorry survivor, I don't feel anything special reading this.

Why do you guys do this to me

Got your back as well.

Asanobros unite against the tasteless peasants.

Maybe its time for trash manga recommendations instead?
Yeah let's do this. I'd recommend Wolf Guy. At least, compared to Solanin, there's actual action and character development. And rape.

Solanin 28 - End
Well, the art is good, but otherwise I didn't find it particularly memorable. It's not bad, it's just that I as I said a few posts before, didn't feel anything special. For me it was a very ordinary story.

On the plus side, there wasn't any of the usual irritating tropes/clichés you find in slice-of-life/romance manga, it was rather mature. I liked the flashback in university, I feel like there should be more manga with college students.

Started reading Solanin. Should've started reading people's recommendations sooner, every one I've read I've enjoyed.

It just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

The good thing about uninventive creators is that, if you enjoy one of their works, you'll enjoy all of them.

The fuck is going on in here? We're hating on Asano now? I mean, opinions and all but I thought ManGAF was better than that. :(

Solanin made me fucked up for weeks (in the good way though).

Wrong. The mage council is not present, not a single one of them. Have you not read the previous chapter? There were representative of the mage council and they are called cherry blossom holly knights squadron. Besides, it´s not mentioned anywhere that mage council members are the most powerful mages alive.

Are you unable to read or something?

Would explain your crazy love of bleach.

I never mentioned the mage council at all, and I never said they were the most powerful mages alive.

Saturn Apartments vol 1

I like this. Story follows Mitsu, a window cleaner kid for the ring structure surrounding the Earth. Nothing to complex or anything, just very unique. The chapters are episodic with each chapter taking on a new client but so far they all been great. There is the whole dad mystery thing but I'm not paying attention to it. Would hate it if the dad ends up not dead.

Iwaoka also got a great art style. The faces are all like wide and simple but it just works plus the backgrounds are just amazing.

Boys On The Run: Volume 1

This is such a great series. I'm pretty sure I was laughing the whole way through. I love the facial expressions in this series. And the story is pretty charming.

The best pages are super NSFW, but I want to post them so bad. They had me in tears.

That's why it's good cause it doesn't feature shitty tropes, shitty main leads and shitty generic love story.

I was gonna read this till I realized only 3/10 volumes were translated. Though the group doing it seem very dedicated so it's not gonna take 10 years for the whole thing to finish.

Not feeling anything special for Asano doesn't mean hating on him really. Calling his art shit though, now that would be more akin to hating on him!

Best Manga I've ever read, personally... but I guess to each it's own and it's bound to appeal more to the "lost" where am I going with my life type like myself...

Cliché = stereotyped and trite.
Trope = story device, but you can not like them.

For example, the protagonist bumping into a female and conveniently falling right into her breasts / pantsu is such an overused trope it can be considered a cliché. And since it's so contrived, unbelievable, overused, you could call it "shitty".

hey mysticwhip, Asano art shits all over Kishimoto art. How do you feel about that?

Aw, can't respond to me?

Wtf how can a trope/cliche be "shitty"?
I'm not following what you getting at

Pretty much why I like it. The story resonates with me as a 20 years old dude who is in university and has to face the real world at one point.

Miu, boy version!

Really, I just wanted to post that picture. WTF? But yea, they fought the dude with swords and Kenichi kicked him.

Something being "cliche" or being a "trope" refers to factual bases rather than opinionated one, which is why it's always bothered me when someone says "It's so cliche." to criticize something. The problem with this is that saying that and any variation of it is a pure blanket statement, as that statement could be said about anything and still could factually apply. Whatever you think "isn't cliche" or "isn't full of tropes" is cliche and is full of tropes, and if such a set of criticism is valid then we have to disregard a couple of century's worth of literature, and other storytelling mediums created in the last 100 years, as being "cliche tripe." Everything has already been done, including Solanin

Well, maybe that comes into play, but personally, even if I'm actually a college student, I'm not and never been in the same kind of situation, so I guess don't relate at all with the setting.

And I don't hate Asano, I liked A Girl By The Sea :d

Nisekoi 1-15

Well the setting has some original and not-so-original elements (I mean, a promise made between kids ten years ago ? Come on...but I'm a sucker for Yakuza in any story), it just needs more comedy and less love-drama-fidgeting.

Survivor, don't do it. Just stay away for all our sakes please. We all know what is wrong with what was just written above. We all know you said nothing wrong that needs to be dissected back and forth for pages. We just all know...we...all...know.

No, shut up. I'm absolutely right and I'm sick and tired of hearing this shit being spouted as legitimate discussion. It spoils everything, even if you don't realize it, the lingering ignorance influences people to do the same shit. "It's so cliche" is the biggest fluke of all time. I'm just tired of it, is all.

Anyways, anyone know where I can get my hands on english copies of Sanctuary? I can't find it anywhere.... ebay is a dead end. Must ship to Europe, btw.

Well you know I'm not claiming Solanin to be the beacon of originality or anything or even dismissing a story that uses tropes, cliches, overused plot devices or whatever.

I'm just saying that compared to your good old slice of life romance garbage, Solanin does a lot of things better than them and one of these things include not using shitty elements such as perfect MC, everyone is beautiful, everything is flowers and roses, fall on girls breasts, see your love interest naked, and so on.

Hmm, I guess I should remove your name from my death note. You are a cool guy after all

I really need to remove Big Breasted Aunt and her Nephews Journey of Incest from my update notifications.

I keep reading it knowing that it's beyond awful.

Yeah but the girl is still cute, even after all this...but that's despite the point. It's nothing against you I just go ballistic when someone says this.

The height of laziness on forums especially, is when a discussion about a movie/game/book/comic/etc. (something with a narrative) comes up, there is always several people that, in general, will say, "I did not like the story because it's cliche." to sum it up in the most robotic fashion I can. Now I realize you weren't criticizing other manga by doing this, but I feel like it could easily lead to someone on here saying, "Yeah it isn't like Love Hina or shit like that!" an entire opinionated comment based off something being "cliche," leading to a series of lazy arguments of which series out-cliches the other and resulting in nothing actual progressive as a discussion. "No, actually, Negima is more cliche." "Shut the fuck up, you're wrong, xxxHolic is more cliche."

A good example of this is that in a discussion about One Piece while back when I was marathoning Bleach, I described pretty well, in detail, why I thought the death of the Going Merry was highly emotional and involving. Beam's response? "Too cheesy," another form of "too cliche." This is why it's the ultimate form of lazy response, because you can't form an actual argument against it other than telling them that their reasoning sucks and they'll just say, "You're just someone who can't accept other people's opinions." NO DIPSHIT, it's because you aren't typing up a real opinion in the first place!

This is just a personal pet-peeve of mine. Maybe it's because I try to take careful effort into my posts, that this bothers me quite a lot.

Thanks for the reminder

Aunt Tits Cousins Loving 21

She has only seen them in manga? We both have the same experience then

Solanin is like Bleach, the art is good, but the story could use some work.

tumblr_ljtag30BOy1qafrh6.gif

If anything, it's the opposite of Bleach! The story is spot on and is exactly the reason why it is one the most beloved mangas ever written. I understand if you don't relate... but you can't just fault the story like that....

I was looking for a while and it's really hard man. Not even rightstuf has them.

Book depository has like one or two copies I think while the rest are used from Abe Books. Maybe some of them will ship to Europe
