Just not amused watching the meltdowns over depth players when I was told I was overreacting over a franchise player getting dealt. I just want Tabris to show up with blind faith just to make the yankee connection that much stronger.
Was it those meany Canucks fans telling you that it was an overreaction? I was right with you about the Richards/Carter stuff.

And calling Hodgson a "depth player"... very subtle, very nice.

THat's the great thing, right now, he has the trajectory to be our #1 C. I'd love to see that happen.
Yeah, he'll have his chance to run away with his own team now, which really is the best for him. There was just too much leadership and talent on the Canucks ahead of him to really give Hodgson that opportunity to run away with his potential, but it still sucks that he's been traded.

TIME TO BUY A CHRIS TANEV JERSEY.

Only time will tell for both. I don't mean to highlight the bad. Obviously he has held his ground, but wasn't producing as much more recently. The first 5 games or so he really was looking promising. It could be a few things, and I would imagine some of it lied with coaching/pairings.

A lot of the stuff was just evaluating and close-watching a guy who was one of our top prospects; so of course there is the tendency to by hyper-critical. He's rugged, a good fighter so far, will add size and power to your team. He's barely played in the NHL, so there's a good chance he will flourish.
I'm not worried about Kassian's potential, but his immediate impact right now. He needs to be a top six power forward on this team now, but power forwards all typically require more time to develop than regular forwards, which would explain his lack of production right now.

Oh hey guys what's going on in this thre- oh.

Err, context. Dastardly compared him to Kesler.

I don't mind Pahlsson as an addition, but it sounds like the Canucks gave up a "roster player, a pick or picks". Too high and he's going to eat up $2.7M of that $4.5M we've got. And he's another centre.....

I don't get it.

I compared 2007 Sammy to Kesler. Dude should've got the Conn Smythe for the way he played. You got a terrific player in Sammy who will now doubt recharge now that he isn't in goddamn Ohio. I do not look forward to playing you guys if that's the case.

Still can't believe we traded hodgson. Seeing that stat sheet only makes it hurt more. I trust gillis completely but then I remember he also signed Marco sturm....

At least Cody will get more ice time now and hopefully develop into a superstar, wish him nothing but the best :(

Any word from tabris yet? Wonder if he's still alive.

I'm worried Hodgson won't get as big a chance as he could. Ruff is hard to read. Is he gonna pull Roy and/or Ennis down a notch for a new guy? If he does, will it last more than 5 minutes before he puts him on a line with Ellis/Boyes?

Hodgson had 33 points in 63 games, and only played about 13 minutes per. In his first full season.

D:

Well Ruff had Luke Adam on the top line then tossed him down to the bottom once the regulars were healthy and sent him to Rochester once he stopped producing when he was playing with Cody McCormick instead of Thomas Vanek...

So here's thing with this trade.

I like the idea of having Zack Kassian on the Canucks. I think Zack Kassian is going to be a good player on the Canucks, and a fan favourite if he brings what he should bring.

The problem?

It's the wrong move at the wrong time in my eyes. Hodgson was the offensive engine on the 3rd line. Moving him out, and bringing Pahlsson in shifts the 3rd line to a far more defensive focus and puts more pressure on the Canucks top guns to score. On the one hand, playoff games are usually fairly low scoring and 'grind-y' anyway, so in that sense guys like Kassian and Pahlsson theoretically could be more useful in those important games. The problem is Hodgson is clearly the best player in the swap right now.

It's really, really hard to judge. I'm legitimately happy to have Zack Kassian as a Canuck, however, I'm also crushed that it's at the expense of Cody Hodgson. I feel like it's a huge gamble that didn't need to be made.

At least we won't have to listen to the Canucks being too soft anymore. I think we can put that one to bed for good.

My bad, I did misrepresent you there.

I hope he finds his game here. The acquisition makes a lot more sense now that Hodgson's gone. But man he sounded miserable to be leaving Columbus. Would've never imagined. Canucks org will make him feel at home, though. They're good with that kind of stuff.

And he didn't have the greatest linemates, either. The only things that hold Hodgson back, imo, are his size and speed. Otherwise he's great at winning puck battles and keeping possession. His limitations don't seem to hold him back at all, but I don't know if he'd be less effective in the playoffs.

Sabres have 2 first round picks (from Gaustad) and 2 second round picks (from Butler lol) in this upcoming draft. Oh and we got Hodgson.

Last time I was think happy was July 1, meaning 20 game losing streak incoming.

So for somebody who doesn't have TSN video access and has only just caught up on everything deadline-related in the past 30 minutes, what have the media and interviews been like? Was there any on-air gaffs or player drama? And moreso, at this point, who are the obvious winners and losers from all of this?

It's cool man. I get that you and the other Vancouverites may not be the happiest of chappies at the moment, but if there's any testimony I can make to a playoff-level Sammy that will hopefully ease your woes then I'll gladly throw it out there.

EDIT: I'm kinda jealous that I'm not in Vancity at this moment. Apart from waking up this morning and having a refreshed loathing for my job here and missing the one I had in Vancouver, there's jealousy over not being exposed to the hockey media during this moment as well as not having the opportunity to talk with the average joe about what they think about this trade.

Winners: Nashville and San Jose.

Losers: Vancouver, Montreal, ????

Can't think of much else.

Highlight for me was McGuire getting cut off for the tenth time and, after he was apologized to, Gord Miller quipped, "He cut me off about 100 times. He can wait."

Now? They have been all year.

Dropped Scott, and added Oduya. that puts them even lower. I wouldn't have minded if they took a run at Kassian frankly. Supposedly though there is a lot of frustration in upper managment and Bowman was told not to add a lot of salary for july 1st onward.

the Hawks top end is going to be like Gretzky a la NHLPA 93 since this team is mostly sackless.

It's okay, guys. I heard that Kane is a hell of a fighter. Q has just got to convince him that the other player has 50 cents on him, and we have our new enforcer.

TSN is gushing about what the Canucks did. They love it for some reason.
They're being way too fair. Even when the Pahlsson trade made zero sense, they were finding positive things to say about it. They've obviously got directives to make everything look good.

It does make sense in a fantasy world where Zack Kassian is the player he can be.

That's the problem. You don't know he'll be there.

I would add Washington and Toronto to the loser pile as well, Washington still doesn't really have a replacement for Backstrom, and Toronto didn't fix any problems.

Eh at least Toronto picked up someone with a pretty good upside. Not changing anything is better than being worse off. The losers made themselves worse off, at least in my opinion.
