i just tried to find it but couldnt while skipping back a few pages.

did someone say that you dont get VIP points on your first order? if that is the case i have to quickly order something mundane before hitting the big stuff ;)

got the little creator bulldozer yesterday, really cute and intricate for its size

I got my points at the first order. However you're only a VIP member once you actually order (or buy) something @ Lego.

So online: Register --> Order ---> You are a member with points for that order
In the shop you can say you want to become one when you buy your Lego.

thanks for clearing that up :)

My son and I are going to have our own little "Amazing Test: Bricked" this Thursday. I will be building this:

While he builds this:

I may be in trouble here - might have to think up some challenges.

But 2766 vs 189? Even if you are a bad parent you'll lose, unless your kid is challenged in development or very young. Don't take me wrong, i am not judging you. I am just stating the worst case scenario.

I have little doubt I am going down in flames, but it will all be in good fun. He's been watching the Bricked videos with me (after I watch them first for "sweary" parts) so he knows about the challenges. No handcuffs, but maybe we'll do a blindfold challenge, or a "read a chapter out of this ninjago book before you can continue" challenge. he also doesn't know about a couple more sets i have stashed away that i could throw out as roadblocks.

You know, I think I'm going to return the Space Needle set. I was just looking at it and the Blue Roadster set I got, and the Roadster was $12.99 and it's 157 pieces, and the Space Needle was $19.99 and it's 57 pieces.

What the fuck?

As cool as it would be to have a little Lego Space Needle on my desk, I can probably find the instructions to build it online (or instructions for a better one) with parts I already have. Sure it's a neat minimalist set but fuck, $20 for 60 bricks? I could have gotten that space invaders tripod set for that much. Goddamn I'm a schmuck!

God dammit it's the perfect size. ARGH.

You know, just from eyeballing pictures of that set I think I can count every piece that's used, haha. You're totally right though, the space needle and all the tiny building LEGO Architect sets shouldn't be more than $10. I'd pick up a few at that price.

I've got the LEGO White House arriving today which I felt is one of the more appropriately priced Architect models they have.

Just finished the Blue Roadster

It's even to scale with the mini figs! I wasn't expecting that. :O

Total build time was around 24 minutes, but only because I realized half way that I was making a Euro car so I tore out the steering wheel to put it on the American side :p

Still really torn about the Space Needle. I agree it should be $10. Even $15. But $20 for 57 pieces of Technic... arrrgghhhh

Seriously? You do realise the steeringwheel is also on the left side in Europe?

I bet you are confused with England.

Placed a bricklink order today, it's retarded that I can get the following for the same price overseas as ONLY the pet shop at Australian RRP

Finished up Metal Grudge.

Love it. Mine is coming along, an order from the 19th has not arrived which is holding things up as I only had one of these;

k5pM3.png

Once the other two come in I have everything for the Grudge and then waiting some parts to add to the remote.

I actually went for a different remote;

It works OK but once I have a steering mechanism on it I think it will better suit the Grudge.

Quick question; How did you find placing the wires from the motors and the receiver in the end? Mine seem a bit tight beneath the turret. The wire going to the battery box is casuing me some trouble too as I fed it through the middle rather than out the back.

Well I've pretty much made up my mind, I'm gonna take back the Space Needle.

It's just, it's so cool, but it's so not worth $20. For half of that money I can get something with almost triple the bricks. (currently eyeing the Off-Road Fire Rescue set, especially if they're going to discontinue all the fire brigade sets like I keep reading in this thread!?)

Then with the remaining $10 I can either get 3 more MiniFigs or another $10-12 set. Anyone got any suggestions?

Started my Fire Brigade build last night. Went with the second floor first, since it's not missing a bag.

I know it's a huge set, but I did the same thing I did as a kid (for the most part). I just opened the bags as needed and dumped them all into a pile. No sorting for me! I did put the small pieces into a little bowl to make things slightly more manageable, but that's gonna be it for sorting.

Took me like an hour to do the first 8 steps (along with helping my wife with some homework). Awesome!

While not as "inspiring" as some of the other large castle sets, King's Castle is still a great set. It was in pretty high demand for a while, too. Definitely worth grabbing if you're into the medieval theme.

The Castle theme sets disappoint me so much, never has there been what I would consider a LARGE castle. All the sets are just so damn tiny and never convey a true castle idea. Even the Harry Potter Hogwarts sets are too damn small.

Hogwarts should be huge:
HP-wallpaper-harry-potter-671316_1024_768.jpg

and instead we get this lame ass set that has no sense of scale or size?

and why havnt we gotten and palaces/castles that tower into the air like this:

I think because the cost for that many pieces would put it out of range for most of the consumers they would be trying to sell to. The Tower Bridge and the Taj Mahal fit in with the scale you are looking for, I think, but to release a set that size, with "playabilities" and a decent set of minifigs would be in the $300 - $400 range.

Yeah I'm kinda tempted to build a medieval landscape with a big castle, medieval market and kingdom joust.

You should definitely go for it. Once my collection's fully sorted i'll be joining you!

Here's two examples/walkthroughs of other people attempting it. They're on EB so ignore all the crappy sigs and stuff, but let the photos speak for themselves.

This one is INCREDIBLE. It's another must read for people into MOC'ing. He does some incredible detail work.

I can understand the cost, but if they are willing to release $400 Death Star sets, why not a $400 Hogwarts? I'd buy it in heart beat.

Because Star Wars fans are at the age where they can afford it. People that grew up with Harry Potter and would have the same connection are still in their 20s.

Notice that the really expensive Star Wars sets are all from the Original Trilogy, not the Prequels and Clone Wars.

Yeah, the author of the Grudge was suggesting against that one, as it prevents the split second direction switching which is the reason the tank so lively and mobile.

I posted about this before but was over looked. Should I bite on the Black Pearl for $80? Feel like once its gone I'll be paying above retail.

Also, Lex Luthor DC set was a REALLY fun build. Highly recommend.

Honestly, I would have to say it has to do with the audience and their most profitable lines. Star Wars is by and large their biggest money maker from everything I've seen. The UCS lines are catered to the hardcore fans obviously - TLG knows that people will buy those sets.

That being said, the modular line and larger sets like Tower Bridge and sculpture builds are also fair money makers for TLG. But those are more aimed at the AFOL vs younger children. While a 2500+ piece Hogwarts Castle would be an excellent model and build, would it offer the same allure as a large scale Castle (non-licensed). No, I don't think so.

I don't buy Star Wars Lego. I can't justify spending the money on those sets when I COULD spend it on sets I care more about (any building/structural set, for example). I had no problem buying the Tower Bridge for $200+, but a $130 Millenium Falcon? Nope. Themes have a very unique effect on people (and I'm no exception!). UCS sets go for insane prices in the after market, but I buy to build, so I'll use my cash on the sets I'm interested in.

Now of course, while I don't buy Harry Potter sets (I bought the new Knight Bus because of all the purple...), I am considering Diagon Alley because of the unique structures and piece types. Would I buy a big Harry Potter Castle? Meh...I don't know. It would have to offer more than just a Harry Potter memory for me to want to drop $150+ on it. I can only imagine that's how TLG looks at it.

Moving past that, Lego hasn't really announced a big non-Star Wars set since Tower Bridge. With that having been on the market for some time now, I do see them bringing forward a new AFOL inspired non-Star Wars super-build. It may be themed, it may not. I really can't imagine what it would be, but if history tells us anything, we won't be disappointed (Taj Mahal, Tower Bridge, Statue of Liberty, etc).

I would go for it - that's 10 cents per piece, which is the ideal ratio. Walmart, etc, may put the PotC sets on heavy clearance before July, but then again they may not.

I want to know what Jamie Berard is up to - he's the designer behind all the previous modular buildings, the Tower Bridge and the Emerald Night train. He didn't create the Town Hall, so LEGO must have him working on something else, and he is in the beginning of the Town Hall intro video montage, which means he will have something to present this year.

Whatever he is working on, it is going to be awesome.

I didn't know this. That's pretty excellent - that would lead me to believe that he is indeed up to something amazing. :)

Oh THAT was the guy who did the Minis? Dude is amazing! He knows how to really use pieces in ways I never considered before. Hopefully he puts out something mind boggling again, soon!

This just reminded me I want the Winter Village stuff to display at Christmas. Lego.com still has 2 of the 3 sets in stock. I think I will get them during double VIP points.
