Superman is my favorite Mini figure right now. I'm telling you, that Lex Luthor set. Way awesome, great buy for your buck, quick fun build. Snag it!

Is the Death Star set going out of production any time soon? I don't have any star wars sets but it has a good selection of minifigures and play value for my son when he's old enough (he's only 5 months now :P) but I wouldn't mind picking it up at some stage, just want to know if I need to hurry about it.

Was released in 2008, so it's already been out a bit longer than most sets are.

I bought it last fall because I was worried that it was going to be retired soon. Since then, I've seen a few deals where it was 10% off, and I wish I had waited to buy instead of paying full price.

What's up with the missing bag thing? I haven't opened mine yet, so I'm not sure how to tell...What does one DO? :P
I guess there was a batch that has a missing bag. Someone earlier in the thread had the batch number, but I believe it's 39R1 or something similar. I opened it and counted the number of bags and then googled the set and batch number. They said if you get 19 bags, you're missing one. A quick call to LEGO and a talk with a very friendly CSR had me shipped the missing bag. Now I just have to wait for its arrival.

Alright, wonderful - thanks! I'll bust it open sometime soon and do a double check before it goes OOP and Lego gets stingy! :)

Came home to this today:

So, let's see what's inside...

Whoo, my Toys R Us B1G1 order showed up!

Grand Emporium is my first modular also. Let's open that one up...

Mmm... gotta love the smell of plastic in the morning, er, evening, er, whatever.

The contents all laid out. Keep in mind this is a table that sits 4 extremely comfortably (would seat 6 if it wasn't up against a wall). A far cry from the other sets I've been working with lately.

For those interested, we have the bags for Instruction Book 1...

Instruction Book 2...

...and Instruction Boo... er, wait, those don't come with instructions.

There we go, the bags for Instruction Book 3.

I think I've taken almost an hour on just unpacking these and taking photos. Looking forward to the actual build - we'll have to see how tempted my little man gets to join in (though he just got a Lego 4+ Spider-Man Helicopter yesterday, so really what more does he need? I mean, it's got Spider-Man!)

Also, sorry for the bad lighting/quality of the shots, had 3 lights on and it still is grainy. Had to make do with my phone camera.

@jtkauff Get ready for some WONDERFUL building! I've built both before, and I can say you will have so much fun with them. The Tower Bridge is one gorgeous display model, too. Have fun!

Found an incomplete set on Craigslist, cataloged all the pieces and order the missing pieces from Bricklink. Now it's time to build it. This mess of pieces is gonna turn into something awesome!

Well I have no self control.

Took the Space Needle back and would up spending about $20 extra on sets and mini figs. (Stopped by a TRU and they had Series 5 figs for $3.49) I'll post pics when I get home.

Now you man up and dump all the contents of those bags into one bin/pile.

Gotta say I wimped out and just dumped everything in the first book out so far:

Building with a 2-year-old hovering around (my wife works 2nd shift so it's me and the boy each evening/night) is frustrating enough to have him spill dozens of pieces on the floor, let alone half of the entire 2100+ piece set. Building alone is one thing and I happily dump everything together, but man, a little boy sure complicates things so I try and preemptively prevent catastrophes.

That said, he and I were able to do the following after far, far too much time (we had to re-count pieces together after I pulled them from the pile to keep him happy, and he wanted to put as many down as possible) and a few bouts of crying since I wouldn't let him build the entire set tonight:

Two bags from there remind me of this:

I kinda think I spot the wings in there, and then I immediately searched for a batmobile with those rims.

Also I think that i spot the flames as well.

Sounds exactly like the experience I had building the Queen Anne's Revenge with my two year old son hanging around. It felt like I was spliting my focus on the build and making sure he doesn't drop any pieces on the floor. At the end of the day everything went fine. The trick I used was to let him play with the mini figs. Thankfully he loves pirates so he was in heaven.

Well SHIT, I just got home and dumped out my bag and I only have 2 of the 3 mini figs I got a Toys R Us, and I called but they close in 3 minutes so their phones were off the hook.

ARGH this is going to be a nightmare, isn't it?

That may be tough depending on how legit of a guy you are, haha. If you go in and explain to them what happened and make it very clear (by your tone more than anything) that you're not trying to scam them, they may just give you one and let you be on your way.

On the other hand, who knows how often people try and screw them over. :| Good luck though!

Oh, my science! I made the mistake of downloading the instructions to the SSD from Bricklink just to see what it is like. I am torturing myself. That looks like an incredible build.

I think my only chance is if the girl I bought them from is there. I've talked to her a few times now and she knows me by sight, she was there the first time I went in and got my first 2 mini figs (Boxer and Evil.. Dwarf, I think?). She's really nice, hopefully she'll be there. Otherwise that's like $3.75 flushed to nowhere. >_<

I think what happened, was, I didn't take a bag, and I was holding the three packs pinched between my fingers. When I was walking to my car, the one in the middle must have slid out onto the ground without me noticing, and I just tossed the others into the Lego Store bag I had in my front seat without looking to make sure I had all 3 (cause why wouldn't I, right?)

Ugh :(

It's so stupid because while I was walking around in the store I had my fingers through the little holes at the top of the bag. Goddamn why didn't I do that on my way out ugghhh

It was pretty awesome. I especially loved the detail of the city on top of the ship and the internal technic structure was cool too.

The internal structure is what intrigues me. I am torturing myself looking at it. Just wait...just wait...

And hopefully my Falcon shows up tomorrow.

You may get lucky. I mean, you could always say that you checked your bags when you got home and there were only 2 in there, show the receipt for 3, and see if they go with it. Given that you're not 100% sure what happened, you should be OK. :)

Well, it turns out everything is fine and I'm just a HUGE idiot. All three mini fig bags were there. I thought I had bought three Series 6 bags as well as three Series 5 bags. It turns out I only bought two S6 bags and three S5 bags, but I got confused on which bag was which because I didn't look at the fucking series number on each bag.

I can't believe myself sometimes.

Anyway, here's today's haul from the Space Needle return:

c3bf53b6.jpg

So strictly set-wise, I went from 57 pieces for $20 to 267 pieces for $23. Stupid Space Needle!

UPDATE:
Alright from Series 5 I have the girl with the monkey, two lumberjacks, and the evil dwarf. From Series 6 I have two dudes with the long swords, the chef, sleepy kid, and the Statue of Liberty.

Nice dude. Evil Dwarf was the last one I needed from series 5. The gf got tired of me feeling up bags that she logged into eBay and bought me one right there in the aisle just so I can get the series over with. I think hes the best in the series, really badass looking for a Lego dude.

Now I just need 4 more from series 6.

Ah, well good job sorting that one out, haha.

Those Architecture sets are nice, but they definitely are NOT a good value per piece. I think the cost in the smaller sets is mainly determined by the included booklet. I know the ones for the sets I have are really nice and offer some great insight on the historical and Lego building aspect of it. I have to think that the cost to print that book + packaging is what does it.

Anyways, enjoy those sets! That Creator set looks great, and the Off Road Fire Rescue may be on my list - I like some of those pieces!

The MiniFigs I feel like I NEED to have are the Dinosaur, the Skate Chick, and the Robot. I'd like the clown, even though I HATE clowns, because of the novelty of having a tiny Mini Fig and a pie.

This is going to get ugly.

There are a few I'd LOVE to have...Zombie, Hazmat Guy, Alien, Robot, Crash Test Dummy...But it's just too expensive and difficult to track them down. :(

I'd like to have the butcher, sleepyhead, roman soldier.

Crash Test Dummy sounds cool too, haven't seen it yet. However its much too much effort to go look for those three (or four)

Yeah - Bricklink works, but even there, you're going to pay a pretty penny for them. What's worse is when someone sells one (like Sleepyhead) without the teddy bear/accessory. That defeats the purpose entirely...

How did this thread suddenly explode like that? It had about 500 replies within its first 6 months and about 3500 in the last 2.

I think a few of us jump started the thread. :3

I've noticed they are being sold for € 2,50 in Holland, and you can even pick which one you want. The butcher and the gladiator and sleepyhead. Can't seem to find the CTD

I got that roman soldier and the clown the last time we picked up some minifigs. Pretty sweet. I think series 5 has a 'Sherlock' detective type with a little magnifying glass that's awesome.

One of the two figures I've end up with doubles of (I've only bought a few of each set), the other being the skate chick from this series.

Think it's just a combination of a few things. It was super slow for awhile but then Tested started doing their series and Internet hype around the mini modulars started seeping through to other topics. And Super Hero / LotR news.

I'm unfamiliar with Tested, but for me I've been following this thread from the beginning, but only a little over a month ago finally had my account validated to be able to post. Not sure if they validate in batches or anything but maybe there were some other newbies who flowed into this thread around the same time I did.

I've been lurking this thread from the beginning but haven't played with lego since I was a kid. I'm not sure what got me to buy a few sets now, but the prelude was visits to the Lego store during the holidays and an end of year bonus plus a good tax return. And then probably because this thread is always at the top of the page now.

Same here. I don't remember when I registered but it was at least 6 months before being activated. I have been lurking for years but this was my go to thread as soon as I saw it.

Which is right where it belongs. :P

For anyone wanting to get the Series 1 Zombie minifig, but not wanting to pay the high price for this one on Bricklink, you may want to wait until set 9465 (The Zombies) from the Monster Fighter series is released. Given that some of the other minifigs in the MF sets are lifted from Collectible series (ie. Mad Scientist, Frankenstein's monster), I'm thinking that these zombies may be similar, if not the same.

As far as this thread goes, I see it like a snowball rolling down a hill. At some point we are going to hit a rock though, and lose some of our mass, but as long as the core stays intact we are going to be just fine.

Similar or not, it's a zombie fig that I would love to have. Thanks for the heads up! :)

And you may be right about the thread, but eventually, people notice LEGO on the page, click, and join the fray. Hopefully we only continue to recruit, haha.
