Kind of silly to think there's no risks involved with oral, though it's certainly less than with anal. Condoms are't used during blow jobs because people don't want to. It's willful ignorance in an attempt to balance personal enjoyment with the chances of an issue later on.

What are the stats for HIV contraction via oral sex?

Ive yet to encounter anyone who's used a condom during oral. But 90% who use it during anal.

From the CDC:

The risk of HIV transmission from an infected partner through oral sex is much less than the risk of HIV transmission from anal or vaginal sex. Measuring the exact risk of HIV transmission as a result of oral sex is very difficult because most sexually active individuals practice oral sex in addition to other forms of sex, such as vaginal and/or anal sex, when transmission occurs, it is difficult to determine whether or not it occurred as a result of oral sex or other more risky sexual activities. Finally, several co-factors may increase the risk of HIV transmission through oral sex, including: oral ulcers, bleeding gums, genital sores, and the presence of other STDs. What is known is that HIV has been transmitted through fellatio, cunnilingus, and anilingus.

In addition to HIV, other STDs can be transmitted through oral sex with an infected partner. Examples of these STDs include herpes, syphilis, gonorrhea, genital warts (HPV), intestinal parasites (amebiasis), and hepatitis A.

:/

I think that's why they invented those little flashlight things that go on keychains.

Is oral sex even the least bit pleasurable with a condom on? It seems pretty pointless.

Is anal sex?

I'm not actually one for fear mongering, I just think the lines we draw when it comes to sex and safety are interesting. Not like I've ever been gettin' any, so what do I care, hah.

Safe oral sex would probably be equal to the downgrade from bareback to safe anal sex. Oral sex with a condom is a total mood killer for me though, on both ends.

I think just like everything in life you have to apply some common sense. If you had some sort of tooth extraction or that week you happen to have a sore in your mouth, the risk is out there (even if I think it's very little, especially in the second case).
It also depends on the sex life of your partner, and what not. (granted we are talking of an average partner, and not just some guy who fucks everything that moves).

oral sex and its risks regarding HIV are very complicated.

is it possible? yes, and there are documented cases, although in the very, very few that have been confirmed, it was said that blood was present. HIV is a blood disease and blood needs to be present at the time of infection to kickstart the infection process. So if you ask specialists, on different sites in the internet, you'll get the typical answer that HIV transmission is possible only in extenuant circumstances, which means with the presences of a high viral load from the HIV positive guy, sores or rashes on both parts, real, active presence of blood in the mouth of the giver and a subtantial ammount of precum or cum so that there's enough ammount of virus. Beyond that, every specialist confirms that the mouth is a very inconvenient place for HIV to even stay and survive, let alone do its thing about getting someone else infected, because HIV is a very frail organism and any substance in the mouth (saliva) would kill it right there.

most of my friends who have talked about it and all of the people I have slept with (and me) do not take a load of cum in mouth as a safety measure. It is VERY rare to have a sexdate and see a guy ask for cum in mouth. Precum is avoided as well, but if you got a bit of that tasty salty flavor in your mouth while doing oral, either lick the cock to let go the precum or swallow immediately (also a tip from specialists) and that's in general term how people deal with oral.

Risk is low enough that people have come to terms with living with that 0.00001 % of risk specially when you can be selective with your partners, actually look at sores in mouth and genitalia and avoid most of the precum.

After A LOT of research I have decided that the way I handle the oral sex situation is safe enough, without the use of a condom.

I guess my most basic question, if you guys had to guess, is this:

How accurate would you say my negative HIV rapid test result is 7 weeks after suspected exposure? I know they said it would be negative until after 3 months, but the more I read online, the more it seems like it's just a safety window and that most people have detectable antibodies at the 7 week mark. Does this sound correct? How much more worrying should I do?

As per most specialists on the net and otherwise..

".. a 6 week negative is very, very unlikely to change.."

if you had an exposure, at all, I think you dodged a bullet.

test at 12 weeks and put this behind for good :)

Great post. And GREAT page in this thread. GayGAF keeps ourselves informed, gotta love it. :)

I generally follow the same rule of thumb when giving head. I generally don't swallow, and the one guy to bust without telling me got a not so friendly punch in the stomach.

Just reading about giving head has made me horny omg. It's been a month since I had sex gahhh.

...wut?

That sounds correct. :(

Go get tested before you drive yourself crazy with worry. Getting tested and hearing these words from a medical professional will really ease the stress. And you are stressed. You're driving yourself crazy, in fact.

EDIT: Just read that you got tested already.

Omg it's been a month since I had sex woe is ME. Fuck off,It's been three years for me and you dont see me going nuts over reading about sex.
Some people just have higher sex drives than others. I had a friend that if he didn't have sex for a few days, he'd be humping everything in sight. I would be over at his place, and he'd be dry humping his couch. Made me uncomfortable to say the least.

Yes, I got tested and it was negative, but I found out that it was 7 weeks ago instead of 5 that I could have been infected. So I guess the longer I wait the more accurate the test results. I'm really hoping this was accurate, I just wanted to know GayGAF's opinion on HOW accurate THEY think a 7 week test would be?

What I need to know now is whether my lymph nodes in my neck are swollen from herpes or HIV. Also, last night I woke up warm and a *tiny* bit sweaty. I know that night-sweats are symptomatic of HIV, but how sweaty are we talking here? Soaking wet? Because it was pretty much just my knee-pits (lol) that were sweaty. I could have just been wearing too much but it's still freaking me out.

I am indeed driving myself crazy. But I want to know. I just wish I could flapping know for sure right now. Damnit.

This is bizarre. Was your friend a dog?

Well, first off, you tested negative and at 7 weeks it is highly, highly likely that the test was accurate. So you can strike HIV off the list of suspects.

Second, night sweats aren't "a *tiny* bit sweaty." You'd likely be waking up soaked. I get night sweats whenever I have the flu and I take medicine before bed. I ALWAYS wake up drenched to the point that I have to change my shirt and sleep on a different side of my bed. STDs are scary, but they're diseases like any other, and so I imagine night sweats induced by HIV or Herpes would be the same.

English isn't my first language, so I have to ask: what does "to bust" mean in this context (which resulted in someone getting punched)?

Edit: Dammit, first post in new page :\

I'm a bit confused, your exposure consisted of giving head without a condom?

Why are you freaking out 7 weeks after the facts and not right after the act? Did he tell you he had herpes? Did he come in your mouth? Did he bleed in your mouth?

He claimed to be STD and HIV and free. I got herpes so he obviously wasn't free of that, but I understand some people don't even know they have it and never have outbreaks. Somehow I got it. I'm freaking out now mostly because of my swollen lymph nodes that have been swollen for so damn long, and I think they're getting worse (just the ones on the right side of my neck, however). Looking it up online, I see it's a sign of HIV, but it could also be some other things, but my symptoms fit herpes AND acute HIV infection. So I'm very nervous I could have gotten both from this guy. Although what I did was statistically low risk, but still possible.

To be specific to your other questions: No, he didn't come in my mouth, and no bleeding, but he DID brush his teeth beforehand, and microscopic cuts count. And they form when you brush your teeth. So, yeah. The idea of getting HIV didn't even hit me until a couple days ago.
