Oh wow, watching that "Inside Episode 212 The Walking Dead: Better Angels", Sarah Wayne Callies basically explains that Lori's conversation with Shane was her way of attempting to bring Shane back to the group and resolve their relationship and then "the conversation gets out of control" and Shane completely misinterprets her entire spiel.

Outstanding.

If Lori gets all emotional later about Shane's death, she has nobody to blame but herself.
 
One thing I really didn't like about the last scene was the random smash cuts to zombies making zombies noises as Shane was dead there on the ground. I guess it was supposed to represent the virus taking hold of him or something, but I just found it awkward and confusing.

Heh, reading Michael Zegan's interview, where they bring up his disability from Rescue Me (to compare to him having his leg damaged in TWD). It reminded me of his acting in the last season (or 2) of Rescue Me. He'd just sit there in a wheelchair, doing nothing :D I think he had 2 or 3 lines all of that last season, and they were in Tommy's Fever Dreams.

Yeah, IMDB says they've filmed in Atlanta and Peachtree City. I'm still curious about how they're going to film starting in May without skipping several months of time in the show timeline.

If that's the case, then why didn't they write it as such? Would have went a long way if she would have told Shane that he needs to come back, and do his best to let go of their past. The group needs him and Rick together to survive. Would have been a lot better, IMO.

I agree, she should have told him that the group needs him in a more direct way instead of walking off crying saying "sorry." Tell him he is needed and remind him how good of a team he and Rick made in a more direct manner. Say something like "Rick needs you as a friend and the group needs you as one of the leaders."
 
Finally, this show has reached it's potential. That episode was fucking awesome, with the last scene pretty much classic tv material.

Lets keep it here.

Still need a .gif of Daryl, Rick, Shane and Glenn going straight up locked'n'loaded as they march into the woods looking for Randall.

Those short few seconds were so bauusss.
 
The final confrontation between Rick and Shane was AMAZING.

Zombie Shane was underwhelming though. He should've been creeping around the entire next episode, possibly encountering/attacking individual members of the group.

I don't know if the actor could do that though. Even though his body was still 'healthy' Zombie Shane half-running towards Rick was kind of poor for what this show has given.

Reading the interview, he had a interesting idea about uttering "Riiiiiick". That would've been fun.

Zombie Randall was pretty intense as well.

Making it sadder for the cast deaths, Shane's not even going to be buried or disintegrated (cremation or CDC explosion). He's going to be one of the first to be laying and decomposing out in the middle of nowhere. :(

It's fine to disagree, but at least tell me who you actually like on that show. The redneck guy was cool in season 1 but then they character-assassinated him and now he's just a big dick. And that isn't what I'd call character development.

I guess Hershel has had a nice arc and is now somewhat likable, but still, talk about a whiny bunch of jerks. Compare these characters to their comic book counterparts and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I agree with you. It felt wrong to think of Office Space's printer smash scene when the group started to kick the shit out of the zombie.
 
It sucks that Shane is dead. He was the best guy in the show. He is the best written character.

I don't like any of the other characters. Not one bit.

I hate Andrea the most with her stupid look all the time. Like when Glenn was fixing the engine. THAT FACE AAAAAA

My personal favorites, as with many others on GAF, are Rick, Daryl, and Glenn. I liked Shane too. I'm not saying he wasn't likeable, but to say he was the only likeable character is pretty ridiculous.

Also, the bold in conjunction with your previous post about Shane is hilarious. Shane totally wasn't a whiny jerk of a drama queen this entire season.

And I think people are trying too much to compare all the characters on the show to their comic book counterparts when the TV series has been seemingly taking most of them in other directions relative to the graphic novel, save for Rick, I guess.

Did Glen leave the show?

No?

Cause I think he's pretty likable...and yes, I like that Daryl had that moment in the woods where he started slipping back into his original character angle. Daryl is conflicted.

Shane's "beta male that wants to be the alpha" got old and he refused to know his role in the peaking order.

He was a deputy to Rick's sheriff before the outbreak and he died that same deputy. Leadership isn't based on how much of a "badass" you are.

It's on how well you lead and Shane was not a leader, based on how the group, including Hershel gravitated towards Rick, not Shane.
 
I liked Shane a lot since I sympathize with many of his decisions. I actually think killing the kid was the right decision to protect the group and Rick only didn't go through with it because of Carl watching and Dale dying.

What's interesting about the scene is that Shane actually starts the beatdown on the zombie, and then backs away when he sees that he's dragging people down the well of "desensitization" that he's already at. They're taking their frustrations out on a relatively helpless zombie. He seems to be satisfied that they're joining him. Which, I thought, was brilliant.

I don't think psychotic rapists are simply misunderstood. And that's what Shane had become at that point. I don't think he was always like that, but circumstances turned him into it. He may have been able to protect the group when shit hits the fan, but somebody like him is not capable of making rational and logical decisions over a long haul. He's not the kind of guy you want to rely on for long-term survival.

He brought a lot to the show, but there was no way that both he and Rick could co-exist in that group. One of them had to go.
 
Anyone else notice the subtle foreshadowing when the four in the woods were splitting up?

"Randall's not the only threat out there, watch out for each other."

You forget though that the group was existing for weeks under Shane's leadership before Rick came back.

Shane went crazy, sure, but it's only been a few weeks since he was leading the group and was actually a pretty likable guy at that point.

While Shane's decision on Randell turned out to be correct, he was too blunt force in his leadership attempts and that polarized him witin the group.

Rick is more even keel and accessible.

He thinks while Shane reacts on instinct, which doesn't always bear fruit.

Yeah, the deputy did an ok job leading the group until the sheriff returned.

I liked him, but his flaw was his obsession with Rick's family. It wasn't cool, and it got him killed. It was too big of a flaw in his personality. If you remove that, he's just a badass survivor, but the whole family thing made him pretty unlikable. You don't just try to steal someone's family.
 
Dale was my favorite, but Shane made the show worth watching.

Now they're both gone and I fucking loathe AMC and their decision making.
