NFL Off-Season Thread: "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"

I find it a bit incredible that PM would specifically request to get rid of one of the top receivers in the league in order to get his signature in Miami (if those reports are true). But I guess this is a situation where BMarsh's reputation as a bit of a nutcase and a teamkiller overcame his obvious talent on the field. Plus it frees up room for the Dolphins to get Wayne, which I'm sure is another one of Peyton's "demands".

Now, if (when) Peyton goes to Denver or Arizona, the Dolphins are screwed big-time.

Oh shi-

Mario Williams coming to Buffalo tonight. Bills also heavily scouting Robert Meachem.

Realistically, all teams have the money ... it's a question of cap space and the Bills should be okay there.

Well I really thought he wanted to be on a Team on the cusp of winning...

disappointing.

These head coaches are all so pathetic. Spags would always overpay for ex-Giants and Eagles, and now Fisher will do the same for ex-Titans. Hopefully Snead can talk sense into him, and at least keep the terms reasonable

Also In Miami Dolphins

I agree with Marshall Faulk saying on the NFL Network this trade is to bring in Peyton Manning. Faulk knows Manning, having played with him in Indy. Doesn't mean he's right here (or that I am). But there's clearly something big behind trading Marshall, because the Dolphins got crushed in the trade. Two third-round picks for a guy who has cap-friendly contracts for Chicago? Why do that unless there's something bigger to it? Stay tuned.

Maybe?

no. it makes no sense at all.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

Agreed. There's always 2 or 3 morons out there who will overpay for someone, driving the market to an insane level.

....WHAT THE WHAT

Twitter-verse is taking cynical view that he isn't interested so much in BUF, but wanting to take a big offer from a team well under the cap, and shop it to the places he really wants to be

I disagree, and think Mario wants to get paid. If Bills are the highest bidder, he'll go there

Just because he's coming doesn't mean he'll sign though. Just means he's not outright tossing the idea in the garbage which is what most Bills' fans were worried about. We figured he'd laugh at the offer :\

I'm hearing some people say Manning wanted Marshal out but I'm also hearing the opposite, that Manning would want nothing to do now that Marshall is out.

I would think Manning would want the services of Marshall.

I don't want to crap on Bills fans that's wrong of me, just kinda dissapoting. It's all business but it sucks losing a player just for the $$$$$$.

I'll get over it.

Even if Miami actually did the trade in order to appease Peyton, it's still an awful return for Marshall.

I'd be fucking furious if I was a Dolphins fan.

The 49ers picked up Parish Cox and resigned Tavares Gooden, who was vital to our special teams last year.

I'm not sure about the Cox pick up, he was one the highest rated CB's to come out in 2010. Off field issues got him removed from the NFL though. He has a lot of potential so hopefully he pans out for us.

I think this means Carlos Rogers is gone though. :(

BREAKING: 30 minutes into the new #NFL year and #NFLFreeAgency, the #Browns have been officially eliminated from playoff contention

made me :me

I just don't see it. Peyton wants a shot at a ring - would he really settle with the Dolphins and face Brady twice a year? No.

The only place that it really makes sense to go for Peyton is Denver - maybe Arizona, but that organization would look ridiculous after the Kolb trade.

Ummm, they have looked ridiculous in that regard for quite sometime, it would be nothing new.

What a fraud Mario Williams is if he signs with the Bills. He talked all that stuff about winning being to most important thing to him and money not being that big of a deal, so he goes to Buffalo?
