"Lupin III: A Woman Called Fujiko Mine" PV incoming... they aired a two minute clip at a Lupin event in Japan last night.

Thanks to Jo on the Lupin forums, here's what some Japanese bloggers have had to say...

Reserving judgement until I see the clip, but it isn't sounding so great atm.

:( That sucks to hear..

Sounds like a poorly edited clip then anything substantial about the show.:p

"Stop it! Don't look at me that way!" - She only has one type of looking at people.

Snark aside, isn't the point of that scene to show just how insane Hamdo is? That just a look is enough to freak him out?

Kaiki is pretty amazing. He even gets his introduction in the best episode of the show (3) and continues to figure in the background for as long as he wants.
Yep. He figured into the show really well - and of course, he also represents the power of the
fake
.

Putting stuff above Secret Base is talk.
Seriously. Secret Base > all.

Yeah, the Toradora openings are pretty good, better than the actual show at least.
Damn son.

Rut roh.

Here's hoping it's just the clip, not the show.

Here and there, When and Where Ep.02

There is something about how the characters and their punches/kicks/attacks carry no weight that takes me out of the show.

And I don't see how they can
transport to alternate dimensions, bringing back people and objects, but they can't bring back water
?

Fujiko being at the center of the show has promising implications.
It will be interesting to see if they turn it into one of those shows where Fujiko is nearly invincible and can just kick ass all day without breaking a sweat. I don't know how popular that would be though.

This was pretty bad. The characters and story was all pretty boring, Yellow and Red were the only have decent characters. The art is pretty bad too, they tried and failed to get that 80's style, and just ended up with wierdly proportioned characters.

Anyone who thinks that Moelicious Pirates has technobabble needs to watch this, though.

I can see it being more a "Fujiko is seducing men, stealing the jewels and getting caught out by Lupin" ordeal. I don't know if you've ever seen Episode 145 of Lupin Part II, but she kicks ass in that. Miyazaki wrote that particular episode iirc, and he seems to love strong female lead roles. Looking at the fact she's naked on the promo picture though, I see this more as she'll be using her wits and sexuality to get the goods.

Also, I'm probably going to sound silly asking this in an anime thread... but what is a PV? Preview Video?

This must have been the cour ending ep, cause that was amazingly entertaining. The saying that
the stage of the play would be the actual battleground
maintained intrigue with an ingenuity, and the actual come-down, the process, that was epic. Akidzuki
failed yet again,
and Soutetsu's smirk at the end was hilariously badass.

This could be pretty kickass if it is as you described.
It's probably something of a combination between this and traditional Lupin because I doubt that they want to relegate Lupin to being a side character of his own series.

It's one of those shows that relies entirely on the violence and gore. The story is paper thin, to say the least, and the characters are pretty flat. I don't remember liking it as much as I watched it to see what all the fuss was about.

I can see how it's portrayal of children/teens in these violent/gruesome/adult situations interests people, but really it never amounts to more than just that. I know a lot of people like it so it has a high standing among anime viewers, so there is something in there for some people to enjoy. Then again, that's just my take.

I disagree. The themes it presents and its execution of said themes resonated with me a bit. I honestly would have liked it just as much if the gore and violence had been significantly toned down or removed altogether with it only being implied.

Was there the more macabre implication that
the phoenix youkai actually kills a fetus already inhabiting the womb and takes its place
or was I just reading too literally into the comparison to
the bird that pushes eggs out of the nest
? I could understand Kagenui's motivation if that was the nature of the
youkai
(and especially since
this cycle apparently repeats for all eternity
), and furthermore this would reflect more strongly on Koyomi's character
if he was willing to defend something that had ended the existence of another "real" sister
, but
fake = inherently evil
doesn't quite carry as much weight.

Not at all. There are no victims in this case, unless you count the deception as a crime.

The violence/gore was kind of necessary in many instances because it showed how out of control and monstrous the Diclonius are.

Then
"I'm an onmyouji, this is what I do"
as real motivation confirmed with
Tsukihi being "fake"
as a really loose pretense.

The deception seems to be the key thing here. The fake striving to be the real thing is an evil act to her apparently. It's neither reasonable nor defensible, but then they never tried to say it was. Like I said, it was enough for her.

GODDAMN - 1

Read about this thing elsewhere in you know where, and figured I could use something decent to wash the taste of Bioware out of my mouth.

There's always a great sense of speed, and the OVA moves swiftly, with not a lot of downtime. It's enjoyable stuff, especially in this era of CG automobiles. Nothing remarkable,

I did enjoy this (non-racing) part:

Wouldn't it be great if she tries to get the upper-hand on Lupin, ending up with him working it all out and foiling her schemes? She could inform Zenigata on a heist he's planning, then sneak in and attempt to steal the goods for herself while Lupin and co are caught up with the police... only for Lupin to out-wit them all and succeed anyway. Or perhaps, they're both rival thieves competing against each other to become the best... though I imagine it'd more likely be the first than the latter. So many random ideas I'd like to see. :X

I can imagine she probably does something that adds distrust in Jigen too. He dislikes her in the later series for always screwing Lupin over, though it'd be interesting to see if his distaste for her is explored a little more in an "origins" series.
