Toonami on right now!? Is this an April Fool's troll?

It was unfortunately mutually-assured destruction. And without the home market, dub companies dubbed less or went out of business, leaving Toonami very little to work with (they could only air kid anime, or at best teen-oriented fair.) That's why they eventually resorted to American shows just to pad the schedule and eventually collapsed to being Saturday-only.


Even still, I think Toonami today could be successful, they just couldn't rely on having new shows every year, instead falling back on their old catalog. As a three hour block every week I think it would at least be worth a shot. (As for a weekday Toonami, that's out of the question for now, but who knows what the future holds?)

Yes. Those kids did grow up. And, like what happened to the domestic comic book industry, they weren't replaced. Name one big anime all the kids are talking about. Dragon Ball Z is never going to happen again.

Do you guys think they couldn't get the rights to Tenchi Universe or Tenchi in Tokyo? Would explain why they're showing OVA 3 stuff.

No, but that's what I meant. There's still good anime coming out, it's just more slim pickings. Three hours isn't a terribly long amount of time to fill if you're doing a blend of old and new.

Something tells me they had some sort of deal in place where the TV broadcasting rights to some of the shows were theirs forever, and that Tenchi wasn't one of those shows.

Unless these are all Funimation properties and they're trying to sell OVA 3 for some reason.

(I'm probably wrong)
