Anyone know what's up with the fake "new episodes" amd "recently added"? They keep marking TV Shows I've already watched, yet never actually added anything new. Keeps happening with "Lie to Me", "Doctor Who" and a few other shows. And new releases seems to be showing the same shows for close to a year now.

I don't know, but it is annoying (but what isn't when dealing with Netflix?).
American Dad said it had new episodes for two weeks or longer but every time I checked it would be the same 5 seasons. Then out of the blue like two weekends ago, Season 6 got added.

I just saw The Caller (2011). I wouldn't call it a great horror thriller, but there were some cool ideas and some scenes that gave me real chills. If you want to see some spooky stuff you could do a whole lot worse. As someone who loved Polanski's The Tenant I really enjoyed this one in the same way.

God, the new movie details page is fucking garbage. All the useful content is hidden below the fold, so they can include that gigantic, useless image. For TV shows they replaced the season listing with a tiny 25x25px select field. And finally, we get the shitty, slow scrolling list for "similar movies".

At least that completes their transformation from decent interface to usability nightmare. Their website is completely useless for me now, it's so slow, unpredictable and frustrating. Their fucking ipad app is faster to navigate. Thought judging from the mess that is the X360 app, maybe that was just a fluke..

Edit: Oh and absolutely love their fixed menu. Together with their huge-ass fonts and spacing it means that I get almost 3 reviews on a single page.

Ahahaha, search is even better. I literally get 1 1/2 results only, the rest ist below the fold. And thanks to the useless menu it stays that way, I never see more than 2 movies on a single page. But hey, at least I get pretty, big pictures. Granted, I'm on my laptop right now, but this has got to be the greatest waste of 700px ever:

Anyone else have 90% of their instant queue dissappear randomly today even counting stuff still available through streaming?

This nonsense combined with the newish can't browse dvds without having a dvd subscription bullshit makes me want to cancel.

Just randomly watched Passport to Love. It's a Vietnamese romance drama about 2 guys who go to America for school. Didn't expect much but exceeded my expectations. Give it a shot if you have nothing to watch.

This nonsense combined with the newish can't browse dvds without having a dvd subscription bullshit makes me want to cancel.

What the fucking fuck?!?!?!

Now that's just crazy. I haven't used the DVD service in a while since I am too lazy to put the movies in an envelope, open my living room door, and reach around a bit to drop them in my mailbox.

Might have to start since I wish to take advantage of my 2 DVD plan!

Just watched The 13th Floor. That was a really intelligent and thoughtful sci fi movie overall. Quite a bit of fun. My mind was blown on a few occasions too. I could have sworn I saw it when it came out and absolutely hated it. But maybe I was mixing it up with another movie. Either way, don't read the netflix description as it gives some of the plot away.

Sherlock expires on Wednesday.

I'll try to watch those 3 episodes before then since I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I watched "I Think We're Alone Now" doc about two Tiffany stalkers.

I regret watching it because I've had nightmares about those fucking guys.

A_Better_Queue_610x342.png

A Better Queue is a simple mashup of Netflix and Rotten Tomatoes that allows you to view what's available to watch instantly from Netflix in a list sorted by Tomatometer ratings. You can filter by year, genre, and rating — which makes for a much simpler interface than Instantwatcher, another Netflix tools that hooks into your queue.

Developer Dave Jachimiak has promised that more features will be coming soon, including the ability to add directly to your queue, more intelligent use of ratings, an improved UI, and a mobile browser version.

Lunopolis is a great mockumentary about a secret city on the moon. Kind of like found footage mixd with ancient aliens. It's a sci-fi documentary thriller.

Quite good.

I'm thinking about trying Netflix Streaming, and I was browsing their selection for TV shows, but it doesn't really tell you which are available and which aren't. For instance, their website has a listing for The Wire, but it doesn't say if it's available and I've heard that Netflix doesn't actually have it...?

No HBO show is streaming. Netflix should have the DVDs, though.

Anything on HBO, Dexter, Queer as Folk, Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, Rubicon, they only have the first two seasons of Sons of Anarchy, and The Shield to name a few.

HBO shows have only been on HBO Go for awhile now, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Showtime pulled some of its shows off of Netflix last year (such as Dexter) because they've started their own on-demand app (a la HBO Go), but Showtime's online service is trash in comparison because it only features 1 or 2 seasons for its shows rather than all of the seasons. Unfortunately, the trend looks to be that channels are creating their own online services to provide on-demand content while pulling stuff off of other services such as Netflix.

I thought SoA was up to season 3, and Dead Like Me used to be up and may reappear at some point (or not, dunno). I don't think Rubicon is even on DVD.

Anyway, the real answer is that Netflix is at maximum value when you couple the streaming with disc rentals.

I kinda thought that was the case for HBO's series, but I decided to look anyway and when I saw the listings on their website I was confused and also a little excited. And it doesn't make sense that Showtime would pull shows like Dexter, but leave shows like Weeds. Like, if you're gonna pull shows then you should just pull em all or leave them. It's too confusing.

I don't think Rubicon is even on DVD.

Then they really shouldn't have it listed on their website. lol

Renting discs is so inconvenient though.

...really? They show up in my mailbox, I watch them, and I put them back in my mailbox, or drop them in a mailbox by my work.

Yeah. If I want to watch something then I'll have to wait for the disc to show up in my mailbox, and then wait for the next disc, etc. With streaming I can just watch whatever, whenever.
