I haven't seen Begins since it came out in the cinema, but watched TDK 3 times in 2 weeks when it came out and seen it three times since.

XD is the for smaller theaters to ride the success of IMAX. They're bigger than regular sized screens, but nowhere near the size of IMAX screens - but the tickets are priced similarly.

AMC has something similar to that, "ETX". Essentially, big ass theatre, larger than average screens, better sound quality, for about a $1 less than the IMAX 3D prices.

As much as I love Batman and the last two movies, I don't know if I can sit in a theater for a marathon. Maybe because I own BB and TDK on blu ray and have seen each at least 10 times.

I'll probably watch the movies at home on BluRay the night before.

141 minutes
+
153 minutes
+
TDKR's running time

That seems like a long time to be in a theater.

As cool as it'd be to do a marathon event with a bunch of hardcore Batman fans, ~8 hours is a long ass time to be sitting in a theater.

So the only non-digital IMAX theater around here that'll probably be showing the movie is a dome screen in a museum. This sounds like it'd be a terrible way to watch a Hollywood movie. Am I correct in this assumption?

Oh. Well, I figured it'd be set up like a planetarium with the movie projected on a rounded ceiling or something odd like that.

I suppose the museum will be hit up if it's a regular kind of experience.
As long as you get one of the four backrows, it's awesome.
Sweet deal. Should be a fun first IMAX experience.

Why do you hate that concept? Is it just because you think it limits Batman or...?

It limits the villians and the crazy shit in regards to the city.

Batman in the comics is actually embarrassing as hell. Pre-prep and "meditating" for an hour instead of a full nights rest? Never should touch celluloid.

Regarding the first statement, I can understand that perspective. I like the likes of Mr. Freeze and Croc and stuff as well. But a realistic batman still has merits as well, I think, as it makes the story more grounded. Truth of the matter is is that there are lots of ways to have batman. Dark and brooding vs lighthearted and fun, realistic vs outlandish, noble hero vs psychotic mess, etc.

As for the second statement, wtf? Where did that come from and what does that even mean?

So many writers have attached bullshit luggage and quirks to the character to keep giving him the upperhand. It's awful.

I really wouldn't bother with James Woods.

I just want to know what he's trying to say. He considers all the various incarnations of batman's character luggage? That helps him win? He dislikes realistic batman, but considers comics batman embarassing?

I'm confused as to what his argument even is beyond "realism limits possibilities"

I have no idea what you are trying to say.

The character of Batman in modern comics is completely ridiculous and should never be put on film. There is so much awful tripe attached to him that when another film series is made I hope they don't include any of it. You know how Iron Man 3 follows a recent arc? I hope no Batman films do that.

I'm saying current Batman, the character and the attributes and even the events unfolding around him, are fucking stupid.

Yes, holy shit yes.

The first and last Hollywood movie I watched at a domed Imax theater was Batman Begins. The ticket was expensive, the line was long as hell, and when we finally got in we had to sit on the aisle. I was lying on my back and turning my head side to side because I couldn't see the whole screen in my field of vision. After a while I just gave up and watched basically the left side of the screen unless there was nothing going on, in which case I'd turn my head.

I felt like crap, because I talked my coworkers into buying, waiting, and watching what I thought was the "definitive" version. Months later when it came out on dvd, I learned that you still couldn't figure out what the hell was going on onscreen during fights and action sequences, so I guess it wasn't all my fault.

I went in thinking it was going to be like one of the IMAX documentaries, that is, that the movie fills the entire screen. It turned out it was a very narrow band stretched across the middle of the screen.

Save your money.

Are you aware that the films are in a completely seperate continuity from comics?

And there is no Iron Man 3 out yet.

Derp.

Except unlike Batman Begins, TDKR actually has over an hour of IMAX footage (the most for any commercially released film).

That's why I said another film series.

...I am so confused. You said you want the batman movies to be in their own continuity because modern comics batman is ridiculous according to you. I say they are in their own continuity, seperate from comics. You reply that another film series will do the same, which it will, I think all super hero movies have done. And I don't understand how this at all relates to the original question of how Nolan's realistic batman is a detrimental theme to the story.

I didn't say it was detrimental to the story. It just sucks as a fan of the villains. I think they're decent movies. I also was saying I don't want Batman, on film, to ever be as stupid as he is in the comics. I can see the next Batman series being closer to the source material.

What is this prediction based on?

JGL doesn't look half bad in that green afterall.

3/4 of the theatre were bad seats.

So, yes, if your going to be first in line and can sit in the very back row/middle seats or they offer reserved seating, I suppose I could see myself watching at a domed theater.

Pretty much, the only good seats are in the back. I saw Matrix at Imax(front fucking row, ugh), and Transformers 2 at Imax(dead center, 2nd row from the back).

Transformers was amazing on a big screen.
