Stephen Colbert clocked it right, Charlize is more beautiful than Kristen Stewart.

without getting into spoiler territory, how was the plot, the characters and acting?
Wait, was this ever a question?
Maxim rated her higher than Charlize, maybe that was the impetus. It was really funny when Stephen brought it up.
Acting was good all round, some characters are a bit shallow (no character development) while others are really good (Fassbender and Noomi). The plot progression stalls, but it's enjoyable, I guess it depends on your expectations.
If you go into the movie screening with your expectations in place, you will have a great time.
Most reviews so far haven't been doing the movie any favours by constantly comparing it to Alien. Perhaps it's inevitable given the subject matter, but it would be nice to see a review take the movie on its own merits. There's no way this movie can win if its put under the shadow of Alien time and again, no matter how good it is.
Goddamit I hyped myself into oblivion. I have never been so excited for a movie in my life, never wanted a movie to succeed more. Even if the movie is enjoyable, I will be heartbroken. I wanted this to be a classic. With amazing, shocking scenes and intense, bleak atmosphere, with an increble story that will have you thinking and talking about it for days after. Looks like I won't get that, why did I do this to myself. Fuck me... Maybe there is still hope.
they were dead the whole time
why the fuck is MIB 3 still hogging IMAX screens into next week? Fuck the fuck off. (UK)
and then jonesy wakes up, revealing it all to be a dream. or was it
Those are some crazy high expectations, but you just gotta judge for yourself. A lot of classics have had mixed reception when they were first released. Some of my very favorite movies, such as The Fountain, I would never have seen if I trusted early reviews and opinions.Goddamit I hyped myself into oblivion. This too. Ridley's been pretty clear about not wanting to do "just another Alien", but something different, so if you're expecting Alien you'll obviously be disappointed. And also I think people might be remembering Alien as more than it actually was. It didn't really have an amazingly deep story or massive amounts of characters development. And now Prometheus is expected to have those things, while at the same having the shocks, scares and gore of Alien, and as thick an athmosphere.symphonask said:Most reviews so far haven't been doing the movie any favours by constantly comparing it to Alien. haha, they tried so hard to segregate it from Alien
i really like that scene where its just a close up of jonesys face with the shadows on it as whatsherface gets murdered. anyone got a youtube for it?
they can say that all they want but they really didn't. It was freaking obvious from the trailers that this is tied to Alien if you've seen the film.
Sure, it can have ties and stuff, but that doesn't mean it has to be the exact same type of film stylistically/atmospherically. There are numerous ways to pull off sci-fi horror without doing it the exact same way that the original Alien did. And while the footage thus far has shown things reminiscent of Alien, I wouldn't say that it has ever looked to have the same style that made Alien great. You can have some of the same elements but with a different execution and that's always what Prometheus has looked like to me.
It's good to be cautiously optimistic, but I'm not exactly losing sleep because some movie critics didn't like a sci-fi horror movie.

I can understand why they've tried to keep the word "Alien" out of the marketing
wait, so people are saying this film sucks?
what?
By the way, saw this on Twitter, Alex Billington from First Showing,, Steve Weintraub (Collider Frosty) and Peter Sciretta from /film were blown away by the movie.
On Alien:Honestly despite how much I'm looking forward to the film. I'm not surprised that it's getting some negative reception at this stage - I mean it was written partly by Damon Lindelof!
Critical reaction to the film was initially mixed. Some critics who were not usually favorable towards science fiction, such as Barry Norman of the BBC's Film series, were positive about the film's merits.[58] Others, however, were not: Reviews by Variety, Sight and Sound, Vincent Canby and Leonard Maltin were mixed or negative.[73] A review by Time Out said the film was an "empty bag of tricks whose production values and expensive trickery cannot disguise imaginative poverty".[74]
Blade Runner initially polarized critics: some were displeased with the pacing, while others enjoyed its thematic complexity.

On Blade Runner:
Quite frankly I'd be disappointed if it received universal acclaim.
It will clear up most mysteries around the first movie and as far I can tell some of the other parts of the franchise, while branching itself out for its own sequel. It also destroys any possible canonicalization of the Aliens vs. Predator movies if I interpreted things right. This alone makes it a good movie. lol
Yeah then I read shit like this..
*cough* sounds like something Lindelof would do!
