Nintendo 3DS Software Showcase [E3 2012] - Trolls, come see how it's done.

Nintendo showed too much of their 2012 3DS releases during E3 2011. They made up for it by showing nothing being released in 2013 at E3 2012.

They didn't even show games announced before E3, and some that were announced last year.

The games are in there, Nintendo. Please, give them to us. We want to give you our money.

Obviously Nintendos Strategy at E3 this year was to show games that are coming out this year. I expect their typical conference before TGS to show us games for next year. I know that's a couple months away, but that's the strategy here. I feel Nintendo may have felt that showing those big games may have been to over whelming, and that they felt they needed to show games that had playable demo's, as they want to show how it is to play Wii U and 3DS games. They don't want to just show teasers. Its Nintendo's strategy to try to get you guys to actually try the experiences, rather than get over excited about a small teaser from Monolith and not being able to try it.

I expect some news at TGS for 2013 titles. I will eat so much crow if this is all false. At that point, I will start to lose some faith. But other than that, I feel this was an expected move from Nintendo.

I guess the real question is when will Nintendo talk about 2013 and why on earth are they holding off all announcements about it?

Obvious speculation is that they have nothing, but that is silly.

They seem to like holding off on anouncements and only discussing things 6 months in advance. Their Fall conference should be a lot more fruitful. For the past few years, I feel more megatons have been dropped at the Fall conference than E3 or any other event.

Perfect!!! :D

So true ... :[

Hey Guys. People asking for games don't worry. Nintendo is releasing a 2D Platformer, RPG and Adventure game. Don't forget about eShop titles and DLC.

The conference was abysmal, underwhelming and Nintendo masterfully trolled but don't try and spin it as if all Mario games are alike.

You think saturating a platform with Mario is healthy? Mario Tennis. New Super Mario Bros. 2. Paper Mario. Luigi's Mansion. All in the same year with not much else? (Especially in the second-half). It is not. You need to show a diversity in the IPs.

RIP Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, MonHun, Layton.

Alright guys lets be objective. This is a fantastic Holiday lineup. There's four must haves for me and about 3 maybes. But 3DS is suffering from the same problem we've got with the Wii U, we're freaking out because we can't see what's over the other side of the wall (whats coming in 2013)

Yep, Nintendo's Strategy this year.

And honestly, I'm going to purchase the hell out of 6 of those games.

Honestly? I don't think this is true anymore. :/

I think what we're seeing here is that all 3 major companies are content to release new information at their own pace, whether via magazine/online reveals or with their own dedicated events. All in all, it seems the impact of E3 in generating hype for unannounced games is slowly getting marginalized, or at least being redirected to a more mainstream audience. The main centerpieces of the three major conferences that were previously unannounced are, respectively, Smartglass, Wonderbook, and Nintendoland. That tells us all we need to know.

It's a strange disconnect I'm seeing, because people are legitimately angry that nothing new was shown, but standing back and looking, what we DO know about each console and their games is still pretty damn good in the short term. Yes, including Vita and Wii U.

Is this actually a problem with their approach, or is it a problem with our expectations?

I'm more worried that we'll end up with another post-launch-window drought. Yes, the 3DS had a fine launch, but then what did we get for months until the holiday? Yes, the Vita had a fine launch, what more has it gotten since then?

If they want to reassure people games were coming, they should have shown new games.

Ah well, hoping they show more new games once TGS hits or something.

I wasn't really expecting big new announcements, what with the rest of 2012 sewn up with Mario and Luigi's Mansion and the fall conference to handle stuff in the first half of 2013. Maybe a new Zelda, but that was only an outside possibility, in my opinion.

Paper Mario and NSMB 2 demos were fun, as were the Castlevania and Epic Mickey presentations.

That's all fine and dandy. But we want megatons.

This year feels like E3 2007 for Nintendo. Games announced the year before are coming this year.

Which could only mean ONE thing... Nintendo @ E3 2013 will mirror Nintendo E3 2008, replacing awkward Cammie with awkward Scott.

We've excused Nintendo the last few years because they were busy working on this supposed new stuff we were not aware of. I'm convinced they're doing jack shit.

we dont' want to watch the games we already know about for 2+ hours. If they would have said that to begin with I could have saved myself the misery of watching both their conferences.

Animal Crossing 3DS probably has some dumb Wii U connectivity, hence why they'll leave it to next year.

I think NoA fails to realize that its difficult to use this strategy when (A) no other 3rd party follows along with you, and (B) you lost everyone's faith in your localization decisions over the years.

A fan reaction such as this was obviously going to happen. And sadly it just makes a otherwise strong lineup look weaker

How can you even say fantastic?

Yep, Nintendo's Strategy this year.
I think that's been their strategy for the last few years.

They have completely stopped talking about games that aren't within a few months from release.

Everybody (myself included) need to keep this in mind for E3s to come, because I think they're sticking with that.

Very well put, I agree one hundred percent.

They have a great holiday with NSMB2, Luigi's Mansion, Paper Mario, Pokemon... but then what? There won't be another E3 for a year and they've only shown games for the next six months. In the time before last E3 and this E3 they didn't show much. What does that mean for games in 2013?

Not E3 2010 and even 2011. Its only been E3 2012.

It means Nintendo's strategy was to show only games from this year, nothing from next year. Just a brutal plan.

I guess this would be the odd year out, as they showed much of 2012s lineup last year. At TGS and at E3 2013 we'll have a few new games?

Still, not getting my hopes up that high.
