Aren't those estimates well below the most recent tracking ($70M)? Well, I guess the upper end is almost there.
It was tracking THAT high? Thats a pretty crazy number. I heard 60m was the higher end.

I'm going to take a wild guess that word of mouth won't be too hot.

It won't be, but it won't be poor, either. Movie is very divisive. So I suspect you will see typical drops for the movie. Not tiny ones that movies with great WOM have, but not huge ones that movies with toxic WOM have.
I just remembered that a few days ago someone in this thread said Prometheus was better than Alien and Aliens. That made me chuckle before I had even seen Prometheus. But now that I've seen it? The chuckle has grown into uncontrollable laughter.
I liked it more than Aliens. Already explain why I do and can't be bothered to get into roundabout arguments because neither you or I are likely to change our opinion any time soon, but yeah.
I agree that neither of us will change opinions, but I just cannot even see yours. Alien is one of the great horror films of all time, and Aliens is one of the great action movies of all time. Prometheus isn't close to being either.

I don't know, it seems like the people most disappointed are Alien-ages and film-critic-GAF.
I went to this movie as a casual Alien fan, a Sci-fi fan, and as someone looking for a decent blockbuster. And I walked away as happy as a clam. I think word-of-mouth is not going to be represented well by this thread.
It failed spectacularly at number 3.I like Sci-fi for probably three reasons:
1. Imagined industrial design of our future and other races.
2. Beautiful, imagined set pieces.
3. Seeing characters react to impossible situations.
And by those metrics, I think this film easily surpassed any Alien movie that came before it.

Thankfully, it wasn't. I liked it as its own thing since it was focused on the unfolding mystery rather than being caught in a one-way street as a more traditional, or JC-defined, action- or horror-thriller. I do agree with many that a DC will probably offer up the film more were expecting, but I really dug this release for what it was.I agree that neither of us will change opinions, but I just cannot even see yours. I think the one example above all others in this movie that illustrates how the characters are nothing more than plot-advancing robots devoid of any real human emotion or soul is when.Shaw gets impregnated with an alien baby, gives herself an abortion/cesarean, and nobody seems to notice or care
The fuck?!
I just got back from watching Prometheus and as a huge fan of Alien and Aliens I came away with the following. Wow did that suck! The beginning was boring, the plot was predictable, and the ending made no sense at all. Hell it was so bad it made Alien 3 look like an oscar caliber movie.
It strayed to far from the source material and should have even been labled a prequel to Alien. I read that one of the writers from lost came in and said the script was more like a traditional prequel, and he pushed them to change it and they did. Ridley should have just gone with the origional script.
It is offical THE ALIEN FRANCHISE IS DEAD! PLEASE DON'T DISGRACE IT ANYMORE! LEAVE IT BE!
Ah, GAF hyperbole how I missed you (for like ten posts).
Prometheus may never reach the greatness of Alien or Aliens, but it defecates all over Alien 3.

So not true. Prometheus was by far one of the worst films I have ever seen.
When you're on the cusp of learning about our species' origins and on your way to actually meet our maker, who cares what happens to some egghead who's now useless to you? Didn't she go right into meeting Weyland as he was just getting ready for his visit with the Engineer? Why would he or they care about her if she's not dead or dying and they've got only mere hours to get the old man over to see the last Engineer? That's my recollection of the sequence of events, anyway.

Regarding Weyland...
Was I the only one who thought it was Fassbender under tons of makeup? I didn't realize it was Guy Pierce till the credits
Jesus dude. Spoiler your entire post for those who haven't seen it.
He also kinda spoiled the ending in his first post if I interpreted that correctly.

Just got back from the movie. REALLY disliked it. First movie that has made me want to get up and walk out of it in years.
Is it bad to say that I think I enjoyed the other Charlize movie I saw this week more than Prometheus? Granted, I had no expectations for that one, so it didn't collapse under the weight of expectation, like Prometheus. Both had the same pros (outstanding visuals and some nice performances) and then same weakness (script), but Prometheus was the one that featured rampant character stupidity.
JC really blew me away. I still have to think about this one a while. Seeing this again on Monday, in 2D, since my friends dislike 3D. I thought the 3D was incredible. Up there with Avatar for best use of it really.John Carter is still the sci-fi movie to beat this year.![]()
