Hey, uh, has this ever happened? (McElroy: GAF has actively tried to fool the press)

he "doesnt read neogaf" but does follow neogafnewthread? well ok

edit: nevermind, pressed the other button by accident

Gotta say that despite it all I'm envious of Justin.
I don't think I'll ever write anything worthy of an 11 page thread.

There's good attention and bad attention.

It used to be game writers would gain an audience by doing thoughtful work for respected publications. It's a little easier to become "famous" now.

The entire Polygon staff seem to follow that Twitter account. I am not surprised at the least that the Verge has so many news and/or rumors coming from GAF.

We are, right?!

But seriously, I think he should just stop writing about this, or he's just gonna harm his reputation more and more. He's just kicking the hornet's nest with every related tweet to this topic.

No, Justin, You're getting your credibility attacked because of shit like

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/30/guy-chokes-a-kid-after-being-made-fun-of-in-black-ops-were/

which took a note from your editor to clarify the "humor" in said post. You're getting your credibility attacked because you thought it was a good idea to post a video of you dancing around like you're the Nintendo 64 kid on christmas morning after you recieved your review copy of your game. You're getting your credibility attacked because you, first, attacked the credibility of this community, saying we intentionally mislead the press.

EDIT:
I was responding to a post about Klepek.

Sorry for misunderstanding. I'm still going on about the original topic of the thread :|

That's what happens when you say stupid shit to a bunch of strangers. That's the basis of the Internet. Hell, that's the basis of every form of media, you put it out to strangers, so chances are you have to subject yourself to reactions from strangers. Deal with it.

I think silence would be a better option at this point...

His tweeting is making this to be a bigger issue than it ever need be - fuelling the flames so to speak!

In all fairness, it is much healthier to have a conversation by lobbing accusations* at groups over Twitter, the internet's preferred method of worthwhile dialogue.

(*Accusations about 'GAF trying to fool the press' apparently founded on the actions of one person, taken entirely through e-mail, that had nothing to do with GAF until they fessed up here.)

Someone that knows Justin should just disconnect his computer from the Internet and hold his iPhone from him for a day or two.

Can we get Topolsky to get over there and step in? This isn't even about that anymore, this is an intervention.

I still can't believe this guy gets to keep his job.
I wouldn't last a day at mine if I was as terrible as him. And it's not just the journalism aspect, the writing is even worse (especially when he thinks he's being funny).

Justin, here's a hint: You're not funny in the least. Only bona fide idiots think you are funny.

I don't see how anyone in this thread could call this constructive or healthy. It's just page after page of people repeating the same things. I can't imagine that any of you guys would be particularly happy about dozens of Internet strangers attacking you for "not doing your job right".

I'm not trying to stand up for all of the things tha Justin (or anyone, really) has said, but I don't see what this thread has accomplished. Congratulations, all of you fairly anonymous Internet posters have spent 12 pages tearing down one dude. I'm out.

That's certainly not true.

He called out an anoymous group first. He has a public role. Therefore my sympathy levels are near zero.

What the......Man some people have their heads so far up their asses that they don't realize that the shit they smell is coming from their own upper lip.

I don't know what's more amusing.

Watching Justin dig his own grave even further, or watching you all taking his attacks so personally.

And the non-anonymous professional journalist went onto a much more public forum and called out our entire community for attempting to mislead the press that we try to foster a close relationship with. This thread is the natural reaction to that. What did you expect, sunshine, rainbows, and a bouquet of flowers?

Lol, aren't you helping to stoke the flames by posting screencaps of more of his derogatory tweets? People tend to self identify with social groups they interact with often. Redditors identifying as such, Gaffers, etc.

I am actually kinda glad this is happening. Hopefully journalists learn from this problem and actually become more prudent. Although I doubt they will learn to check their own sources instead of an internet forum, since after all, it's their job.

Yes. I am. I already stated that I found it amusing.

And I was kind of warming up to him after the E3 bombcast.

But then I remembered he's the nier dude, the gamejournalists.gif dude, the in-bad taste joke dude, and now he's the dude calling GAF a site out to get game journalists with fake news.

Right. Okay. Sure.

Well, as long as you're openly admitting to trolling the thread, I guess its okay then.

Trolling? No, no. I'm simply expediting the process of this thread. Let's be honest, that twitter grab would've been posted eventually.

I'm simply stating that both sides of this argument, Justin and the members here that are getting so riled up (which is not every member, I recognize that fact) over something so trivial.

Some members here took Justin's NeoGAF knock so personally that you might have suspected that they were physically part of the message board.

While Justin doesn't realize that his baseless attacks and previous antics do not represent himself or gaming journalism in a professional manner, and does nothing but to discredit himself.

I find it kind of funny.

While I don't really care about Justin or what he says, this certainly isn't putting their new gaming website in a good light.

Like shouldn't someone be telling him to shut up by now?

I love how we all generally agree that twitter is shit.

Twitter is great, as anything it can be misused though. And it can be dangerously intoxicating. So with moderation and ponderation it can be an excellent tool to interact with friends, fans, users, readers, listeners, customers. But keep in mind that it's a public messaging system, not a private one.

I like how he calls GAF, an Internet forum out and then says 'a bunch of strangers' like he didn't ask for it.

If I had no sense of self awareness and a gif of me was used routinely to illustrate what a joke my profession is, I would probably be salty at GAF too.
