[Nintendo Direct] 3DS XL (90% larger screen, 4GB SD, better battery) OP has details

I knew this was going to happen, but I didn't know when so I just went ahead & bought the 2 3DS's for my niece & nephew instead of waiting, but I guess I get this for one of my other nieces.

Hmm... I hate to say it, but I may actually be tempted to upgrade. If the larger form factor means my hands won't get cramped to shit after 10 minutes of play, the revised hardware might actually be worth it for me; especially when the flood of awesome new games (KH 3D, Layton, Animal Crossing, etc.) hits. Of course I'm with the folks who say they want a white one.

Of course the release of the "midnight purple" 3DS caught my wife's eye, but who the hell knows if that color will ever come in XL.

no second analog stick, charger ( not a huge deal just incredibly weird), and no resolution increase despite it already being low to begin with.

I was waiting for a revision with larger screens before buying one since i do want to play RE Revelations, but that hardware sounds terrible still.

Fuxk you so hard Nintendo. I waited until after their E3 conference before trading a whack of games and getting a DSi XL and then they announce this a few weeks after? Grrrr

I just bought one of those cheap grips that makes the 3DS like a 360 controller. Problem solved for me. Before it I couldn't play without cramping or my hand falling asleep.

I'm sorry, but it's fucking stupid they didn't include a second analog stick when they sell a peripheral that adds one on there old version.

Because there aint enough room for one, moving the face buttons down would make them awkward to use and the second analog stick would only be used in a handful of games anyway.

The gyro or secondary screen can replace the functionality of the second stick , not as well of course but they are there.

I don't see anyone asking where Vita's second screen is...

No second stick
No AC adapter
Horrible design
Same shitty resolution (or is it not?)

Didnt they say the upper screen panel has to be black due to 3D effect? Was it just BS?

Pretty lame that there's no second stick, but I'd love to see the CPP they make for that thing :D

Really hope this increases the 3D viewing angles, if it does I might get one.

Well I'm thinking I'm going to get this but the 3DSi in 2014 with 2 analog sticks and a retina display is gonna be fucking boss

This has to charge via usb or something, there will be laws in the eu against selling an item you cant use without buying another thing to power it i would think.

Was excited during E3 and now I get this...Pass..like others, I'm willing to wait as long as it takes, before I get the 3DS revision that I want with 2nd analog and a charger. I'm willing to bet probably 3rd or 4th revision, after 3DS sales are still lukewarm perhaps that Nintendo will yield to the consumer. So I also hear that you can play DS games on the 3DS LL? Any truth to it?

Huh? People were expecting an upgraded resolution? Things don't work that way...
Yeah, I don't get it either. Handheld games are designed for a specific set of hardware and a specific output resolution. Nintendo could add 4k displays and the games would still run at 400x240. A resolution bump doesn't make the image sharper, it makes it blurry. What's the point?

For those who wanted to know this aswell:

Knew it.

Glad I didn't open my Zelda 3DS for use.

Now I can get this one and actually use it. Just picked up SF4 3D for $20AU

The fact people are saying you can get chargers on eBay for THREE DOLLARS shows how unbelievable cheap Nintendo are being in this situation. "Just buy one yourself!"

If it's anything like the DSiXL, the bigger screens will make everything look better...and the original DS game looks close to the original size with the not-scale/black borders. :p

Yep. I guess some imagine it like jpegs and that making it bigger makes everything blurrier. :p

The screen is bigger but the resolution is the same, so it will look as bad or as great as the 3DS (depending on who you ask :p)...but all over your face..like the DSiXL. :p

They really should have increased the resolution along with the bigger screen size and I can't get over the uglier design what were you thinking Nintendo??

That thing looks ugly as sin, but far more usable than the ergonomic nightmare that is the 3DS. Actual Start/Select/Home buttons? Matte interior? Larger screen and battery? Sign me up.

They do when the screen is almost twice the size. I'm not asking for PSVita level but at least it having a similar image quality the 3DS has for its size.

As long as it's native, I'm not too picky for this kind of fare, sadly I know better than to develop any kind of actual standards or expectation for this cheap shit. But I do boggle that they released a handheld with a lower resolution than the original PSP in 2011.
