[Nintendo Direct] 3DS XL (90% larger screen, 4GB SD, better battery) OP has details

I wanted a DSiXL but it couldn't play 3DS games, I wanted a 3DS but was waiting for a hardware revision. Today is a good day I guess.

Removing the potential for screen scratching was more important than adding a second stick to me, so I'll be getting an XL by the end of the year for Theatrhythm and eventually SMT IV.

Yeah, same for me. I noticed that around the left speaker on my 3DS, it seems to be getting scuffed by the Circle Pad :(

I'll be on this day one...Less than a month left.

GS better have a good trade in deal. I've only owned mine for two months. Exciting news yes, the screen is very tiny. But the timing sucks, for me anyways.

What the... (just woke up)

I bought a 3DS two days ago :( :( :( Time to research gamestop's return policy. Serves me right for thinking "well nothing was announced at E3 so I guess its a good time to buy the system"

sigh

One thing I really like about the DSi XL are the improved viewing angles and reduced ghosting (compared to Lite, never tried a regular DSi). So I hope that those sort of improvements carry over with this.

Not talking about 3D viewing angles and ghosting, but it'd be great if it'd be possible to improve those too.

This is all I was waiting for. Hopefully homebrew and emulators aren't far behind :)

Wait, no charger? Do they charge USB or is this just a supremely dick move?

For fuck's sake. I might need to get me one of these. I Imagine games like Kingdom Hearts and Super Mario 3D Land will look sublime on this.

I'm so upgrading to this, I really want the bigger screen and it looks like they got rid of the glossy finish so it will no longer be a fingerprint-magnet.

Nope, no charger, unless you're in the US.

Is there any explanation why they aren't bundling the charger? Is it just to press costs as Nintendo assumes that a large majority of the people buying it already have a charger from their DSi/3DS or is it just a scheme to get more money?

Following that was there any announcement for the price of the charger itself?

Have to say, NoA is smart as fuck to release it the same day New Super Mario Bros. 2 is.

Gotta rank up those sales figures, yo.

Did Nintendo release the exact dimensions and weight of the 3DS XL? Cause it actually doesn't seem that much bigger. Still undecided whether or not to switch to the XL...
If changing the system can you actually take everything with you (VC games, ambassador games, stats in the activity log?)? And that's only possible if you wait with selling the system until the new one arrived, right?

Found a used red 3DS for ~~ $110/£70. I can't anywhere else to ask, should I go for it? I'm not interested in the XL/LL.

Might as well. If thats what you are interested in then I'd say £70 is a great price for a system that already is filled with high quality games.

For all the complaints about shovelware etc. with the original DS the 3DS has less releases but more very high quality spaced out each year. Its a must have imo

Vita has convinced me that dual sticks is NOT the mobile gaming savior...
Nintendo probably feels this way too, and is waiting for its next console to provide dual sticks. I hope they find a better form factor than Vita, my hands are raped after playing Uncharted.

I honestly much prefer the slide pad on the 3DS. Before I got my Vita I was so sure that the dual sticks was the way to go but I find the Vita ones to be terrible, whereas the 3DS slide pad is a joy to use.

It seems like it's to keep costs down. That screen can't be cheap, especially given the size.

I don't think it's been confirmed, but I reckon £14.99/€19.99 for the charger and dock bundle, maybe £7.99/€9.99 for just the charger.

DAMN you Nintendo!!! Looks like I need to throw my 3DS up on ebay or trade it in to Gamestop.

I had my CPP and figured I'd be immune to the temptation of a new revision, but damn, big screen 3DS games are going to be hot!

I assume I need to keep my original 3ds to transfer my downloaded games? Sucks, since I'd like to trade this towards the XL.

I'm thinking the same thing. In my experience GameStop let's you do this at trade-in, but the core problem is still the lack of accounts.

I feel sorry for everyone who went out and bought one after E3. That's fucked.

It looks an awful lot like the Wii U Gamepad. Maybe that's why they didn't want to put a second analogue stick on? Save people getting confused with Nintendo products again. I don't know, the original 3DS was a nice little gadget. This doesn't look like that at all.

3.5 to 6.5 hours when playing 3DS games (3DS is 3 to 5).
6 to 10 hours for DS games (3DS is 5 to 8).

On second thought, I'm keeping my original 3DS. I'll still take my bulky 3DS with Nyko Power Grip over this.

So in the EU we get what again? Silver, Blue, and Red right? And they ALL have that black surrounding area on the main screen correct?

Correct, it's just the outside faces that are coloured, like those Dell mini netbooks.

I watched the Nintendo Direct video on my 3DS and you can see that the rear is also coloured, not just plain black like I expected.

I want to sell my 3DS now for maximum profit to go towards an XL. But I don't want to lose my Ambassador status.

Any advice GAF?
